Download large amounts of data.

Is it me or does Little Big Planet seem to download a ridiculous amount of unrequired data? I have been putting together a level in LBP and have found that whenever I do something of significance, such as undo or create something, the "I am communicating online" icon comes up and I don't know what for. I was fine with this (I did not know what it was doing or why but I figured it was some statistical analysis or something) till I got an email from my ISP informing me that i had nearly burnt up my monthly download quota (30 GB) in 5 days. Now I am shaped and I have to struggle through for the rest of the month on 64K connection speed (yes I live in Australia where net access is only dished out in small expensive doses). Just to be clear I have not published the level or anything like that and I know I can work around it by disconnecting my PS3 from the network but, why should I have to? I am not doing any online activity and yet LBP goes nuts on the download. Why would it do such a thing? Why not just connect online when I am actually doing something online? Also if anyone has any ideas on what it is downloading so much of, that would be appreciated too. | 2008-12-01 00:04:00 Author: Geggeh ![]() Posts: 2 |
It stores your undo/redo stuff on the servers when you're online. At least, I'm pretty sure that's it. Oh, and welcome to LBPC. :hero: | 2008-12-01 00:07:00 Author: BassDeluxe ![]() Posts: 984 |
Omg, I really hope Comcast doesn't have anything like this, I want to know as well, I really didn't know what it was doing when the icon popped up, it would do it for the simplest things too, like I would put a block of dissolve material, just pressing "x" would have the icon pop up. | 2008-12-01 00:08:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino ![]() Posts: 5250 |
Ok, so I figured it was storing my every move on the servers for so much information to be burned up by it. My next question would be, is there a way to stop this as I don't really want to have to bring my PS3 offline everytime I insert LBP into the drive? | 2008-12-01 00:19:00 Author: Geggeh ![]() Posts: 2 |
The only way is to take your PS3 offline. It's not that tough, though, just go to the settings tab. | 2008-12-01 00:30:00 Author: BassDeluxe ![]() Posts: 984 |
Wow another thing that MM failed to take into consideration. Burning through that much bandwidth in just a few days. I'm curious what they were thinking when they made some of these design choices. | 2008-12-01 07:40:00 Author: DarkDedede ![]() Posts: 672 |
Personally I think you should be logging your traffic and confirming it is actually LBP sucking your bandwidth rather than maybe a torrent program or something similar. I am also in Australia with Internode on a 25 GB plan and Play and use LBP Create mode regularly and have not seen any excessive data usage while in create mode and trust me when I say with my create skills rewind is almost continuously in use. ![]() It will be pretty obvious as soon as you start logging your traffic which IP address is sucking all the bandwidth and then it is just a matter of doing a lookup on that IP to find out where it is going.
