Detected Detectables 2: The Detection of Detectability You may (that's a big may) remember me from The Case of the Missing Donut, which I posted here maybe a month or two back. I've been working on this level during that time, but I never felt it was quite ready to publish, so it got stuck in limbo for quite a while. I still feel there is something that could be done, but I decided to go ahead and publish it, as I think it is a pretty good level as it is now. This is a two part level, both of which maxed out the thermometer. The level's fairly story oriented, and there are a few little hidden things I threw in just for fun. Hi there Dietomaha GREAT level! Great humor, nice, easy to read story, good use of cameras, music, sound fx, and sack bots. Not too tough, everything worked well, and was fun to play. No real criticisms really, job well done! If you fancy checking out my level 'House of the flying diggers BOSS FIGHT' I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thought you had to review first before requesting feedback on your own level Here is my review : Liked the retro atmosphere, went well with the detective theme at the beginning . But maybe just me because of that I thought it was going to be more cerebral than a platform shooter. Story was very strong , with the good characterisation. Enjoyed the mini battles with the henchmen. Especially where we get to throw them in the pit . All the mechanics work well . The transition with the cut scenes was really good and kept the story flowing nicely. Music also fit well with the sections. Humour was excellent ,will bring a smile to peoples faces. Issues : When getting to the big machine the wall traversing was difficult not because of the task but due to very bad camera angles on the first sponge and bounce pads . The prize under the stairs after the dinner party battle gets you stuck so the only way to get out is to kill yourself . Some of the speech bubbles didn't make sense. Maybe a reword might help Final boss you can bypass the red button , which is a shame as can negate the end of a good story. Not sure about the water .. is that a TBC ....? Overall a very good level . Good point with the final boss. Didn't even register with me. I'll go fix that. Everything you wrote I will take a look at, those are all sensible things. One thing though, you say some speech bubbles didn't make sense, could you clarify which ones? Thanks a lot for the critique, I'll check your level out later tonight and post in your thread | 2011-04-06 02:40:00 Author: Dietomaha Posts: 156 |
Wicked level man, i really liked the cinematics, and the design had a really cool dark vibe to it. Keep up the good work! And the 28 weeks later theme was amaaaaaaaaaaaazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you get a free second, check out my little big planet adaptation of the classic tank shooter, Scorched Earth. https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=54300-Scorched-Earth-Little-Big-Planet-Style Thanks, Cam | 2011-04-06 10:02:00 Author: Unknown User |

The 28 Weeks Later theme is not mine however, I just felt it fit the level really well. Here's the link to the level I got it from: http://lbp.me/v/xw5eq4 I've queued up your level, I'll let you know when I play it | 2011-04-06 16:14:00 Author: Dietomaha Posts: 156 |
Updated with a few minor bug fixes from suggestions. | 2011-04-07 15:59:00 Author: Dietomaha Posts: 156 |
Neat level, bro. The atmosphere was nice and humoristic, and the story although quite unclear is not too bad at all. As some people here said, the prize bubble gets you stuck. Also more time to read the speech bubbles would be nice, i ended up missing a lot of them. Other than that i liked the boss part (lol high jump pads = EPIC) and the design of the boss, also the fire pit bit was fun as well as the creatinator parts. Overall, very enjoyable level, just some refinements here and there. Hey there, I've tried your level and enjoyed it ! I'm not that good in english so I have some troubles to understand the story, but the things I understand were fun. I liked the joke when I shoot at the guy watching TV . Good athmosphere and good work on lighting, really enjoyable level. I played before the patch, so it's maybe fixed now, but I was also stuck under the stairs with the prize bubble. An other thing that I can mention was a small issue at the end : I did'nt fall on the water directly but land on something (didn't see what it was exaclty) a,d thought I have landed somewhere i was not supposed to be. I have to jump into the water to see the scoreboard. Overall good level, fun and enjoyable. Can you give me feedback on this level (Dr Who : Lost Soul (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=54330-Dr-Who-Lost-soul-1P-Only)) if you have a chance to play it ? thank you ! | 2011-04-08 09:48:00 Author: Slurm Posts: 262 |
Thank you both for the feedback, I'll look into those things for sure. I thought I fixed that prize bubble issue, but I guess I'll have to take another look at that (edit: Just saw you said you played before I updated it. I'll still go back and make sure it's fixed though) I'll queue up both of your levels | 2011-04-08 22:15:00 Author: Dietomaha Posts: 156 |
Looks like a well built and fun level. I'll queue it up for tonight, and leave feedback later. J | 2011-04-08 23:51:00 Author: Unknown User |
Hi still seem to get stuck under the stairs . Thy wall seemed better but not sure if you changed anything or I am just getting better at it . Also could not find the speech bubbles that didn't makes sense, think you might have tweaked them. By the way , I updated my level now with some of your suggestion , so if you would me kind enough to give it another whirl . Any other levels you want me to check out . | 2011-04-08 23:59:00 Author: Unknown User |

Absolutely I'll check it out Thanks for coming back to it, not many people do that! If you would like (but not required by any means) my main levels are in my sig. [edit] I fixed some of the complaints about the level, including the prize bubble issue. I had actually fixed these a few days ago but forgot to republish. Sorry! | 2011-04-09 21:22:00 Author: Dietomaha Posts: 156 |
Heheh... Nice cheeky level. What a horrible day! I like some of the things you're doing with the sackbots. It's cool seeing a city full of them like this. Your giant death tank is great, and I really want to know what music you're using for that one part... I know it's a famous orchestral thing that turns up in movies a lot lately. If I were to suggest improvements, I'd recommend finding a way to avoid placing magic mouths on walls to tell the story. Something about that has never sat right with me, but I know from the levels I've made myself that making capable sackbots that are player-controlled with speaking parts is much easier said than done. Keep up the good work! | 2011-04-11 06:04:00 Author: discokrakken Posts: 108 |
Very nice level. It had a good humorous feel to it. I enjoyed tossing the sackbots to their doom at the end. Heh Heh! Good work. J | 2011-04-11 06:23:00 Author: Unknown User |
Thanks for the feedback guys I've still got your levels queued up, I'll review them tonight I promise. I'm still very open to any and all F4F as well. I'm very sad at the amount of plays this has gotten though, I'll be honest The previous level I posted on here (Case of the Missing Donut) got about 350 plays with just over 20 replies, it's disheartening that this one only has 10 | 2011-04-11 18:07:00 Author: Dietomaha Posts: 156 |

You can't really let a lack of plays bother you though. The best you can do is try to perpetuate your own feedback loop via F4F and just being generally active in the community. A little piece of me died recently when I noticed that my 3-week old level had like a dozen plays, while a level called "Press Square Fast!" was published earlier that day and getting 1000 plays per hour. After that, I can no longer view play count as a certification of quality, and instead prefer to play levels that appear under-appreciated according to their stats. Edit: Also, I don't remember this thread being in the Cool Levels subforum... Did it just get promoted here? Either way, that always helps. Congrats! | 2011-04-11 23:42:00 Author: discokrakken Posts: 108 |
Yes it did, just a day or two ago heh. But anyways thanks for the lil' pep talk haha. I haven't gotten around to playing your level just yet (I haven't had much LBP time recently) but it's at the top of my queue, that's such a great concept. | 2011-04-12 23:21:00 Author: Dietomaha Posts: 156 |
Returning the review favor. I love the detective theme and gumshoe tone. The character interactions are hilarious (same outfit, the Lewis Carroll-like dinner party). A lot of fun elements. Not too keen on the number of stairs, as many felt like filler and slowed the level's flow (stairs to an elevator?) Also, I got temporarily stuck on an invisible surface as I fell toward the end. | 2011-04-14 04:17:00 Author: Hoplyte Posts: 100 |
Not too keen on the number of stairs, as many felt like filler and slowed the level's flow (stairs to an elevator?) Ha! Good point. Lol. You are totally right though, towards the end I started running out of thermometer room and had to throw in a few boring sections to get to the end part I had made. I really hate that I had to do that. | 2011-04-15 17:52:00 Author: Dietomaha Posts: 156 |
