All of my progress in LBP2 is gone!

Archive: 23 posts

100% complete. Aced and every item. I turned on my system to edit my most recent stage (in my sig) and the game acted like I had never played before. I still have all my trophies and I was able to copy the stage from my earth to my moon so I can still get in and edit it, but I don't have any LBP2 items anymore including anything I created and had in my goodies bag but not in a published stage.

It's looking like I'm going to have to conquer the story mode again and sit through all the tutorials. Is there any way for Mm to look at my trophies and see that I've done this all before and just give me all the items? I know that sounds like a ridiculous question, but you never know if you don't ask.

Before anyone says it, yeah, I know I should have backed up my profile, but I didn't. It's hard enough to deal with without having other people say it... It won't happen again.

No sorry. Reloading a profile is the only way to get back your content.
(short of replaying the whole game)
May I ask what you were doing last time?
(playing with beta builds/items, hansel & gretelbot levels? etc) (shadowriver dont kill me pls)

Other users heed the back up warning!

The last thing I did was add some hologram material to a few items in my stage. It's on the verge of overheating but that really shouldn't affect my profile.2011-04-04 15:03:00

Im really sorry to hear about your problem. I think this is the greatest fear for any LBP communiy member. I have noticed that my levels sometimes disappear but then re-appear a little later. I put it down to connection speed. Perhaps if you sign out and load up the game. If all your stuff is there when you do this quickly back-up your profile, sign back in and then load it up. Fingers crossed this works for you.2011-04-04 15:29:00

Thank you, but I've already tried that I've redone most of the tutorials and plan to replay some of the gane later today, I just hope I can find enough people for the X4 areas again. I should just be thankful that my stage was published and that I also published a locked stage with some of the other things I've built. I will never fail to back up my profile again.2011-04-04 15:52:00

Bummer about the profile. You can add me for help with the 3-4 player areas. I haven't finished all those yet.2011-04-04 22:41:00

It's happened to me twice now, both times LBP2 related. I had to completely restore my hard drive on the PS3 - the second time, I finally started backing up my data onto USB. Fortunately playing through the game all over again is not as bad as you'd imagine. I managed to re-ace and 100% all levels of LBP2 over a weekend. It helps playing with folks who've done the same.

If you want a hand blazing through levels for bubbles, add me and send a request to join whenever we're both online.

And don't worry: LBP2 has plenty of players who drop in and out of the 3x and 4x levels hoping to join a group, for the same reasons we all do, to get those straggler bubbles. No less than about 40 people in those levels at a time. You'll be fine! LBP1 on the other hand...

I'll do that, thank you. Just a heads up, I did remember something strange on my profile before this happened. My earth was reset to the basic materials and I couldn't get it to revert to how I had designed it, then it was completely transparent... I'm not sure if that has anything to do with losing my profile, but it might be a sign that you should back up your profile if this happens to anyone else.2011-04-05 03:21:00

Is ther a way to back-up your entire moon? I have saved files of finished level, but my moon is full of stuff. Profile back-ups only save game info right?2011-04-05 05:03:00

As far as I know you have to back up each stage individually. Your profile is a separate back up from stages.2011-04-05 05:06:00

I'm pretty sure your profile back up backs up your moon as well. I had to move my LBP 1 save from one PS3 to another using a profile back up (obviously) and everything on my moon was still there. Plus if you actually look at the back up in your saved data file on the XMB, it'll tell you how many levels you've got on your moon. So I don't see why it wouldn't be the same back up as the saved data.2011-04-05 05:16:00

This feature would be very handy.
I absolutely hate backing up levels one by one, overwriting the old file each time...ugh.

Online backups are much faster and eaiser imo.

Great, it takes long enough to back up one stage...and I was just backing up some saves and the PS3 froze...I back out of the paid online back-up too quickly I think. I know why they made it the first option...but it is really lame having to scroll down to USB on everyone each time.2011-04-05 05:19:00

I just had this very same thing happen. I had a backup on a usb stick from a couple of weeks previous, but just in case I also paid for the Plus membership for a year. I uploaded both my profile for LBP and LBP 2 along with my Skate 3 profile. However, I noticed that right after it finished uploading, the profile information underneath LBP2 llisted me as having only completed 2 levels w/0% completed for the other two categories. I attempted to go back into LBP2, and it sent me through the intro again. When I got to the pod, my earth and moon were still customized, but every option except for story mode was greyed out. My trophies, however, were still showing, and I could access my costumes from my popit, but only in the pod. When I went into the first story level, everything disappeared from my popit, and the craters of my moon were empty when I got back to the pod (even though the decorations remained the same.) My trophies, however, seemed intact. When I tried to reload the original saved profile from my usb as a last resort, the file came up with an error. I then got another USB stick, and backed up the profile that was copied to the Plus servers, so I would at least have some record of what happened.

The first time I called Sony I was told that there must've been an error with the upload, and since the upload came from my machine there was nothing they could do on their end. Since it was an older model, perhaps my unit was going out on me? However, after reading in several forums that people were having issues with the last update, I thought I'd give another call. This time the tech told me that I was supposed to have waited 24 hours before accessing the online information. There were no warnings or instructions about waiting any length of time before accessing the online save product. She said she would note it, that I should wait 24 hours, try to download my profile again from the Plus server, and if it wasn't fixed to call back and they may "escalate" the call, but my information may just be corrupted. I then tried to pop LBP1 in to see if that data was also fragged. It was. I have since attempted to reload my profile, but I get the same result.
I perceived the first tech to be sympathetic ("I play Dragon Something-Or-Other, and I know if I had that happen to me I'd drop kick my TV"), especially when I gave him the Battlestar Galactica defense ('This has all happened before...") but I still felt like in the end the stance was it couldn't possibly be any fault of Sony's.
I had the almost exact same problem with LBP1 when it came out. Last time, I emailed my save game to the company only to find out I had an unrecoverable error. I know it's probably a crap shoot, but does anyone know if there's an address we can email our profiles to in case they are recoverable somehow?

Uhmm, by back upping your profile, you back up every level you have on your moon. So there is no need to back up every level if you back up your profile.

@Rottinghouse: I feel so sorry for you. I hope you can get back everything you really needed to get maximum power of LBP2 again. I also have a tip for you, back up your profile frequently. It really helps! It can also help when you get your profile corrupted and it won't let you play the game. Then you can import your old one too.
I really hope you will get over it.

That's true, but I do it anyway I back up my profile every time I do anything major, or every day or two of minor updates, but I also back up a few individual levels-the ones I've put the most time/work into. It's redundant and pointless, but I've been paranoid ever since one of my lbp1 levels got corrupted back in the day.

And yeah, this has been a semi-common issue since LBP2 launched--there have been a handful of these threads. There is no known solution other than to restore from a backup or to just start over. I'm not on my ps3 much these days, but if I do pop on, send me an invite and I'll be happy to help you get some of those prize bubbles back.

The fact sony sells online back-ups reminds me of the Sarah Silverman episode where they kidnap the president of the company that sells rugs and non-slip strips individually (sony releases a buggy game that loses data and then sells back-up space for people afraid of losing data)...miss that series.2011-04-05 21:19:00

Same thing happened to me. :kz: I turned on my PS3, went to play LBP2 &...it told me to Accept the EULA & Import my LBP1 stuff. I looked & saw my entire Story Mode had Reset. I Imported my Back-Up*(Thank Jebus) but now I gotta do almost EVERYTHING in my level I was working on...2011-04-05 21:24:00

I've been doing a copy of my most worked on level to my moon and choosing the back-up option to that level but I haven't atcually backed up my entire profile or level to an external drive. I am so running home after work and backing up my entire PS3 including my LBP profile and most worked on levels so I have two places that I can use as a backup incase one backup corrupts or something.

I actually lost all my levels from LBP1, after an update from Sony or Media Molecule. Forced to update then bam my levels were all gone. I then stopped playing it (I had done many hours tinkering in create) and never went back to LBP1 until 2 came out.
