Sick Thoughts

Archive: 11 posts

I think I'm just about done with this series and the next addition will probably be the last stage.
So after you got some parts from the previous level to build a rocket ship you wind up on the moon.
How ever the moon does not look like the moon you and I know. Nope, this ones got water and plants and junk. I could have pulled the slacker card here on the scenery but what fun would that be?

Any way here is quick run down of what's in store for you.

We have Moonapillars. Fuzzy little worm things that you can grab, YAY!

Some plastic explosives to play with. You shoot them and then detonate them with R2.

If you like throwing things as much as I do, there are plenty of times to get that fix here.

The boss was inspired by the eves asylum boss in the last level. When I first played that level I was pretty impressed with all the little flying balls and wanted to figure out how it was done. This part can be a bit mesmerizing, like watching fire. He mite look pretty intense but if you pay attention you should figure out how to stay out of trouble. Oh yeah throw the green glowing balls at him.

Some hints about the boss if you have trouble.

1. Only the green glowing balls can hurt him when they glow white after you grab them.

2. He will not take damage if the other flying balls are touching him. They kinda protect him.

3. Flashing red lights are the spots that fire will come down from, so keep away from those.

Picture time YAY!

If you look to the right you can sorta see the boss. He's camera shy and stuff.

Another angry plant thing.

Hope this is enough to entice people to play and here is the link if you want to queue it up.http://lbp.me/v/zk2ceg

There is a lot going on in this level and I played it through a number of times to find any bugs. Seems to work fine but if you find anything or have any suggestions I'm all ears. Enjoy Folks.

If you haven't played the series yet I might suggest to give them a try.

Oh and almost forgot to give thanks to Festerd_Jester, I think that's the name? He made an awesome collection of music and has what I think is the best show case for his music. I used one of his songs for the boss.
Here is a link to his music level http://lbp.me/v/wsq-zv

This level was actually really fun, I enjoyed the low gravity, sticky bombs, and the boss fight 2011-04-03 14:52:00

Why does this series have so few plays? Is it the title? I don't know, but it's a shame. These are some pretty fun levels with some clever gameplay and amusing conversation. I really hope this grossly underplayed series gets more attention. It deserves it.2011-04-04 05:48:00

Thanks for the kind words nextlevel88,
It does not really bother me too much the lack of plays it gets, but it is a bit disappointing.

It could be the name? I thought a lot of people wold type that in at some point trying to get some goofy level.

One reason could be how the system works.
Story them levels generally are not going to get too much attention simply because the replay value is not there.
This is why you see the challenge levels get all the plays because people come back over and over again.
There is nothing wrong with this but I wish there was a easier way to find levels like Hansel and Gretelbot.

What I think MM can do.
I would suggest that the filter system needs some more dynamic options in it.
For example if you go looking for a car or house on craigslist or the net in general, you can put in a price range and brand. Why can't MM do this same concept with plays, hearts, and times liked or disliked. Instead of just saying most hearted, how about I add the number of hearts a level has received. For example levels with hearts from 20-100. So you find all levels in that range.

Maybe MM would find this feature worthless, considering most players won't spend that much time just browsing levels. Honestly it seems like when you try to browse you have to go through a lot of bad levels. I can appreciate a effort level "It's not great but I can appreciate the work put into".
Half the fun of this game is seeing what people come up with. It's like a never ending interactive art museum.
but then there are the really bad ones. Like completely empty levels that have every power up in it simply to get a trophy. Once a player goes through a handful of these I can see why they would quickly going back to MM picks.

All in all I think the filter system is a bit limiting but it's coming along.

I have found a few gems around that are very well made and thought out. I really should make a list of these underplayed levels and just have a level link level with these in them.

Also I have not been doing a whole lot of promoting for this level. Posted on some forums here and there and looking for feed back on some things I can improve on. I'm glad people are enjoying it but I am aware that it's not perfect but I hope it's pretty close. Basically anyone who has a issue with anything I plan to improve on.

Once again thanks for playing and it feels good to hear the positive feed back and some constructive criticism.

The thing that makes this game great is what holds it back: everything is controlled by the community. I often thought that instead of "highest rated" or "most hearted" there should be a filter for positive plays. Divide the number of "yays" by the number of plays to get a percentage. That way, a "good" new level with a high yay-to-play ratio will have as good a chance of being seen as a popular level that spent days on the top of the cool pages. In fact, it has a better chance because as a level gets more and more plays, it needs to get a LOT of yays to keep a high percentage; but by then, it's already been noticed, so there's no real harm.

Problem is, once it's in the hands of the community, even that wouldn't work, I'm sure.

Great Ideas. I just finished the series and its absoluetly amazing as I said. Your work is MM pick worthy but its great to see some humblness to your additude. Its naive for me to say with patience this will eventually become popular, but with as long as you stay commited in LBPC then I guess people will start to take great notice of you but I cant judge on that quote. great job man, I'm happy to put this up back on the first page for a while. The pics look great, it stuns me that people arn't falling for the pics you posted for your level.

Thanks Guys! I agree with nextlevel88 comment about the filter system. I would not go as far as to say it's broken. I hear a lot of people complaining about that.
I think your right about what ever mm does to improve it will eventually in a sense not work. I'm really happy that it has gotten some plays and people are enjoying the level. I really tried to get the challenge aspect just right so it's fun but not too challenging to the point that you want to quit.

Before I go and work on the last installment I am going through and polishing the ones I have done. I think level two could use the most tweaking. And I will look at that last segment so it plays a bit smoother. I got a lot work I need to finish up with my graphic job but the last level will come eventually.

Once again for those who have played, THANKS!

Thanks for the kind words zenspirit25 the support is much appreciated.

Also I made a minor mistake when I republished level three. I left a switch on and the boss never showed up because the ticker was set at full. Got comment about last night so fixed that. Usually I don't publish broken levels but I guess I forgot to save the changes in my last rendition.

Hey there Dingobread, lol, GREAT name, oh and GREAT level also!

Played the others first, but didnt finish any of them, found them a little tough with the limited life on the first two, the third I got stuck and........ well, the forth, I not only played, and completed, but REALLY enjoyed (Thats TWO great levels on the trot Ive played tonight, I'm a happy bunny)

Yeah, great game play, great looks, loved the boss, Mmmmm, trying to think what else...I loved it all dude ....attempting to be a bit more constructive than 'I liked it a lot'.....erm, it was great?

I dont think I have a single crytisism to be honest, a well polished, well thought out level.Well done indeed!

If you could give a F4F in return I'd appreciate your views of 'House of the flying diggers BOSS FIGHT'

Shade.
