Little Big Sky Adventure (Video Inside)

Archive: 5 posts

Hello, this is my first post to this forum I just found out existed yesterday from a user online and got a recommendation to check it out. Looks great this place!

I have managed to do a couple of levels and learn more from every one I make and this is actually the first I am proud of.
The level is published in the current state except from the grappling area in the end (from the video). I am still working on it and will republish when I have more into it. I want to know what you LBP-fans think of it and if you like to play it I would be happy. Dont watch the whole video if you plan to do that btw. I would also like to get tips or suggestions, bad or good feedback from the current state of the level. Well enjoy. Btw, static because of the cam recorder.

I see no one has replied to you yet, so I'll add you to my queue. Looks good in the video. I don't usually like unfinished levels unless its a demo or tech demo or if there isn't a score board at the end as it forces you to quit out, but I'll give it a go and get back to you.2011-04-01 18:16:00

Thanks! There is a published full playable version of the level that ends with the throne with a scoreboard. I am working fast so I hope the finished level will be launched this weekend. 2011-04-01 19:00:00

All right, well I'll start off by saying that this level was very visually appealing. The theme and colors fit along well together, and it felt very peaceful and serene. I found the difficulty factor to be balanced, where you wouldn't get frustrated, but you would need to have a few tries at some things. The score bubbles here were really placed in a way where you'd want to try to get the score bubbles as an extra side-quest. This factor is really important in my opinion, but that is most likely just a personal thought. One of the problems I had with this level would most likely be the speech bubbles and cameras moving a little quickly, which made me somewhat unable to read everything that was going on. Most of the plot in this level was figured out just by running through and seeing the characters' actions. I enjoyed this level, and commend you on the good job.2011-04-01 20:10:00

Hi I've had a go and I must say that I agree the post from Performancev2. However below are a few areas I'd like to point out:

Here as you can see the gap between me and the other side is way too big to jump across. BUT unknown to me when playing, that there was a jump pad at the other end of the tunnel that was 'suppose' to send me flying across to the other side. This did not happen. The 1st jump pad sent me up and over to the tunnel but not into the jump pad that actually sends you flying over to the other side. Also the glass made it hard to see it too. So I was forced to go back on myslef to the other end of the tunnel and jump into the jump pad that was missed. If you notice Media Molecule have jump pads set up where the one that sends you across is on piston or spring with a player sensor to activate it. This would help greatly for people that are miss it or are sent up to the tunnel rather then the jump pad on the top left.

At this part I felt the weight and size of the round thing to throw at the button was too heavy and made it harder then it should be to jump across the deadly gas. I found myself several times falling into the gass due to the weight and size interfearing with the physics. You may want to force the player into the correct layer to throw the round ball into the button. You can call it lack of player intuition but at one point I was trying to different layers to get across as I got fed up so just throw it across only to miss it as it was on the front most layer. Yes silly me, but others may do this.

Here, it's not very obvious that there is a gap in the level and everytime I tried to walk over to the jump pads on the left I fell down to the lower layer. This was a bit frustrating as I had to jump when there was no apparent hazard or obsticle to jump over except a gap in the level design.

Before triggering your cut scene here, I found that everytime I walked intot his area the same cut-scene woul dtrigger and play over and over again. I've seen this on quite a few level online and makes it look less polished. What I have done on my level is to wire up a player sensor to a counter set to 1. Take a look at the pic of my set up, that should help: http://www.flickr.com/photos/littlebigdes/5509635749/

At the grappling area I felt the beams were way too low, as the gap is only big enough to fit a sackperson. So as soon as I grappled over I died. Several times in fact, this sort of unexpcted forced into a death situation is annoying. I did eventually managed to get across it, by keeping my grappling hook very tight and close to me but with the physics of the grappling hook throwing you out eveytime you jump over this sectionit gets very tedious and annoying fast. I did find a few other areas where there was unexpetced deaths and I was forced into hazards so you should go over your level again and look for areas where this happens and how to prevent it, before people quit out your gorgeous level. May be try different heights between the three beams so it';s not too easy or increase the gap. A bit of Trial and error needed I guess.

Other then that and my long post, I actually liked the design and atmosphere and how the white heavenly therme carried through it, even the sound sounded as if I was way up far above in another dimension. Well done and good luck with getting plays and polishing your level up. Hope that helps.

I haven't actually finished my level yet but I like to look at others and help if I have the time. It also hleps me when creating my own level.
