the reaction to the "The stupid copyer!!" thread

Archive: 23 posts

man, i can't believe how unfriendly the people on this site can be.

i thought this was a friendly community for LBP players, but the responses on this thread make me realise the people here are no better than people on other message boards that are known for having a bad community.

and this includes the moderator who closed the thread.

why were you people getting on his case for voicing a legitimate issue that has upset him.

way to cultivate a caring community. i hope the guy who started that thread gives up trying to be a productive LBPer and just starts taking up bad LBP practices and starts ripping off your levels. because you guys have proved that the LBP central community is an uncaring one.

LBP Central uncaring? Your kidding right? All they wewre trying to tell him was that copying happens to the best of us and it is sad but you cant go taking your anger out in a thread and badmouthing the person who copied. Plus almost everyone was using constructive critism of the thread.2011-03-31 16:07:00

The thread was closed for reasons unrelated to caring or not caring.

The OP was looking for plays, and we have a level showcase section for that, to which the admin suggested he use. We do not have a complaining about other users section on LBPC, which is what the thread was turning out to be.

I'm going to suggest this thread be closed as well since it will not lead to productive discussion, merely more complaining about users.

Its another troll saying we are all unfreindly and he that hopes people will copy our levels cause he wants a reaction, don't give him one. The sooner we all start ignoring crap like this and the other threads the sooner they will give up and go away and we can go back to the place this once was, a great group of people talking about a great game, in a civilized and mature manner.2011-03-31 16:17:00

so some kid who is understandably upset posts his woes.

one person says;
"Don't call him a stupid copyer. He's awsome. It seem's like YOUR the stupid copyer, Not him."

another user just mocks him and says "i must be sitting at the kiddies table"

another; " Enough.... Drama... Topics....Already!"
and then has a winge about it.

and then some cold mod comes in and just shuts the thread down.

i don't have a problem with reading the OPs thread. he has a right to be upset and seek comfort from the supposed friendly LBP community.
if those guys don't want to help or at least re-assure the guy. don't reply.

it wouldn't surprise me if those people made the kid give up creating. is that what we want? Is that what the LBP central is for?

hey GruntosUK,

i'm not a troll. you can look at my other productive threads if you want.

i care about this community, that's why i started this thread.

so stop trolling my thread If you can?t be bother to offer a worthwhile post.

Troll thread then, obviously set-up to rile other members into a response.

The other topic was locked for good reason, so why bring it back up. Fact of the matter is, theres better things I'd rather be reading and discussing than this and a lot of other pointless things on the forums these days, hence the reason I seldom post anymore.

A lot of the people coming here have the wrong attitude, and thus threads usually deteriorate into childish attacks and post after pointless post.

One of my favourite aspects of this website is that the posters here are realistic, down to earth people who are not afraid to speak their mind, whether their opinion brings them popularity or not. The more mature and experienced members here are able to enter into disputes over issues upon which they conflict, yet still raise a glass together at the end of the day. It's called agreeing to disagree. There are no sheep here. People called that thread for what it was...a transparent play for attention by a kid who should have had enough sense to realise that there is no such thing as "intellectual property" in LBP. He won't be the first person to have his ideas copied and he won't be the last. In fact, I know of one kid who (to the best of his ability) copied my level Space Assassins and published it. I told him I felt flattered by his imitation and added him to my friends list, because it's nice to think that I inspired another creator in such a way.

Also, the point of his level was to let Mm know about issues with LBP2 which he felt should be addressed, so surely the other guy doing the same thing only lent weight to his campaign rather than to undermine it. He should have been glad that someone else in the community had joined "the cause" with a rallying cry...unless of course the level was made for the sake of his own glory rather than to affect meaningful change. Imagine an animal rights protester getting angry and shouting "he copied me!" because someone else holding up an anti-vivisection banner comes to join them on the streets. Yeah...exactly.

I agree with Gruntos. This thread is pretty useless to the forum. If you didn't like what happened (and im not exactly sure what did) sorry, but deal with it.

Don't let one bad experience put you off this sites community though, it's full of great people! (Well, I think it still is)

I'm amazed one of these "cold" moderaters haven't shut this thread down already, despite that i've seen Morganna's already looked at it.

Also, how is this "Everything Else LittleBigPlanet 2?"

EDIT: I just looked over the thread that you were talking about, and I can't understand why you're so worked up about it. It was a valid reason to lock the thread and the mod who did, did so in the nicest way possible, explaining why in full.

What's the big deal?

Cold mod? lol

"This is not the place to make defamatory remarks about other players. If you have a problem with another user, either resolve it with them directly, or if you believe they've violated the PSN or LBP Terms of Service, take it up with Sony.

If you wish to advertise your level, please use the Level Showcase (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?40-Level-Showcase) forum. Thanks! "

I think that "cold mod" was right on point. The level in question wasn't really even a level to my knowledge and the OP of that thread was upset that someone else made another level like it AND GOT MANY MORE PLAYS. That to me was what he was really upset about. The kind LBPC community saw through that and realized that he was upset about pretty much nothing and called him out on it..

In essence you are doing something of the same by saying all of LBPC is unfriendly. A brash generalization which is quite far from the truth. If you stick around more than the month you have been here, I think you will find we really are a bunch of nice people that are willing to help other creators. Unless of course they are just begging for hearts and plays or simply bashing other players..

Those threads tend not to go well.

Good luck and please let us know if you have any questions. We really are here to help!

If he had simply posted his problem on a thread the collective at LBPC would've been more than happy to help, But because he was generally Trolly and Elitist about it People were bound refuse to 'help'2011-03-31 18:16:00

I'm amazed one of these "cold" moderaters haven't shut this thread down already,

I'll have you know that I'm a luke-warm moderator. Morgana is a warm, fuzzy mod. Aya might appear cold but that's just cuz he's a very logical person. Schm0 is a cool mod, and Warlord is still kinda' new so I'm not sure where exactly he falls.

Sorry, that went on longer than I intended. Anyway, we're watching this thread, but so far it appears to be an honest opinion about the community... or a troll topic masquerading as an honest opinion. As long as things remain civil, people are free to express their opinions, though if you wish to "call out" one of the mods for a decision, I strongly suggest you do so in private. We welcome our members' well-thought-out insights into our methods and we'll happily answer your questions (well... more or less happily ), but, for the most part, it would be inappropriate to publicly decry a moderation decision. That other thread was closed because it specifically talked about an actual person in a defamatory way, which is something we don't tolerate here-- it's part of how we try to keep the site friendly

man, i can't believe how unfriendly the people on this site can be.

I couldn't agree more.

Registering an account on a forum with the primary intent to start a thread calling another user a "stupid copyer" (sic), and then using that as some sort of justification to beg for plays, is one of the more "unfriendly" things I've come across to date.

and then some cold mod comes in and just shuts the thread down.

I wouldn't be very impartial had I let this continue, considering the many similar threads attacking Stephanie_Ravens were locked for exactly the same reason.

Fortunately I didn't actually have to make that call, since the OP requested a lock here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=54046-The-stupid-copyer!!&p=817119&viewfull=1#post817119)...

I THINK POST SHOULD BE CLOSED. Done!

What about jeff? He's still technically a mod. What kinda mod is he? <_< >_> >_> <_< ...

Anyway, What everyone else said. I don't really think that just cause he's new means that he should be allowed to do whatever. OR maybe they should. I unno. But still, I have nothing more to add.

"but so far it appears to be an honest opinion about the community... or a troll topic masquerading as an honest opinion."

thank you for for being level-headed enough to consider that someone may have something to say that some people won't like without it being solely for the purpose of winding people up. you alone have given me some reassurance.

you are right to judge my post as an honest opinion.

i don't like this tendancy for people all over the internet, not just here, to just start calling people trolls because they don't like their opinion. (i'd like to see these people handle a business meeting)

i think i've made a valid point in this thread and don't really have anything to add.

just try to not be so harsh to people who may be genuinely upset about a LBP experience.

perhaps he shouldn't have mentioned the other guys name, but all he need was a friendly ear, but he just got dumped on instead.

Cyborg,
I know when your coming from, you even reminded me of myself lol

I know how you feel when you see some people bully up on others and or when they make you feel like crap... yeah its ironic in a way how they treat people sometimes, wether here, lbp or any other place, but just cause all this happened doesnt mean you should be calling everyone here un-friendly etc.

Sure the people who treated that kid wrong just are heartless and....just mean people, without offending them, I mean we all would react that way, I reacted that way when they stole a Level of mine (Not an Idea, a whole Level, like everything).

And when I came here for help all I got was "it wasnt yours in the first place"

Feels like a kick. I know, after all it was the whole level...After that I deleted mine, but think about what Ungreth said, someone who makes a level similar to someone elses or inspired on someone else isnt really a bad thing, well id be honored if someone did that to any of my levels instead of how it un-fairly happened to me... which ill never forget, Chibi Fairy Tale, one of the best things i made and its ironic how I lost it..

But just drop it, its not worth fighting all over for it, The thing is theres a bunch of good people here, there is still..others that well...arent the friendly bunch, but just dont get confused about all this that happened. take it from me, im treated like a noob around here lol , you have no idea. And despite that I still enjoy being here and playing lbp.

But just let it go, if you care about the kid, go talk to him and make him understand and as for the rest, hang out with the good people (you will notice who is friendly and who is not) just ignore that un-friendly bunch and move on.

Dont let all this ruin the great experience you can have here
Just stay positive and make friends, hope that helps ^___^

Edited post* wanted to avoid mis-understandings

thanks bloo. you're right, not everybody is as i described.
i just need to remember, this is the internet, where there are a lot of unreasonable people.

by the way. i absolutely love your sticker art level. one of the most impressive things on LBP in my opinion.

Thanks cyborg

And im glad, cause You really reminded me of myself, I would reacted the same way seeing all that behavior toward that kid. I guess just...sometimes people not just here, but in the internet, sometimes they forget were all just human, not robots or sackboy's.

Its like people forget...i dont get it really,
But anyway, im sure your already starting to notice theres good people around and im glad. and thanks ^^ I didnt think people played my levels and stuff
Glad you liked them

Weird... I'm a pretty new member, but have read the tuts and such for quite some time. The reason I joined was that this place seems super nice. But then again I was only looking at the posts from people that were interested in creating and sharing...

People that say things like 'this place used to be better' is usually a result in their own participation in any forum becoming deeper. As you scratch past the surface of what the forum is for and get intertwined with petty politics that seems to come from people that feel that they could run the place better, forgetting that there is most likely no money involved that scratched surface quickly loses it's lustre. The place hasn't changed, just where you spend your time has.

Even reading and commenting on this thread is somewhere I don't want to be or go. There is no playing or creating or sharing.

On a side not, the reason I actually posted is that I saw War Lord had visited my profile page and I had wondered why the name was dark blue, and now I know... I feel a little worried that I was being checked up on

LBPC, unfriendly?
Naaaw, couldn't be, no way. xD

Its not like there are people calling everyone who disagrees with them or makes a joke, "Troll," nor are there people who get banned for defending others, or a bunch of others who are not even up for clearing up differences, and rather respond with things such as 'Dont' talk to me," when you try to fix things up, nor could there possibly be mods out giving bad examples by feeding trolls rather than moderating, naw, not at all

Oh wait...
...
...
...
I think you're on to something here. xD

Unfortunately, maturity doesn't flow all that freely on a forum dedicated to a game where many of the players/creators are kids. It's just another reason I wish our age was posted right underneath our user name. It would make it a lot easier to distinguish younger members from Trolls and idiots, and to respond accordingly. There are a lot of younger members here who display the "Instant Gratification Syndrom" and are clearly proud members of the "ME Generation"... while others have been brought up with good manners and are simply here to learn about the game and have fun. I am much more likely to respond less like a parent to the latter, and go out of my way to help that person.

A friend of mine has a great opening line from one of his films that I believe in very much. It goes, "The difference between a nice guy and an @**&0!3 is the day you meet him." For the most part, that's true... but the sad fact is that there are people on the internet who don't know how to behave appropriately. People who spend their time on forums like this one trying to actively look for or create problems with other members. People who believe they can say anything they want and aren't smart enough to realize that their words carry weight, have an affect on others, and will long be remembered by those they have talked back to or down to and can only feebly reply with ridiculous statements like, "You have to learn to relax, it is the internet after all." These are the people who when left unpunished for long enough, begin to taint good sites like this one because the rest of us get fed up enough to just finally start firing back in anger. The unfortunate side effect is that that same anger can start to bleed into our responses to other members from time to time. We are all guilty of it... including Mods. None of us are perfect, and we all have our bad days. There have been threads where we have clearly ganged up on other members and made fun of them for posting an idea or concept the general forum finds silly. I've seen it, and I was guilty of participating in poking fun at an idea once or twice myself... and I'm not proud of that at all (as ridiculously funny as the idea seemed). Although it shouldn't, it happens from time to time. I suppose when threads come along where people are asking for Hearts and Plays, or bringing up trivial personal in-fights like "Who Published A Level First" etc., we just get fed up and fire back. None of us is perfect, but some members here are certainly less than perfect and don't reflect on their actions at all... and those are the ones you really need to be aware of.

I agree that this site was a much friendlier place 2 years ago, and has slowly let more and more Trolls embed themselves in this community. There are still a lot of us who are good hearted friendly people... but as one wise member has pointed out, we post less frequently now. I also agree that too many people here wrongly use the word Troll without actually understanding it's true definition. Just because someone disagree's with your opinion doesn't make them a Troll... or a bad person. Thankfully though, most of the mature and level headed people can easily spot the actual Trolls for who they are. I've just learned it's easier to ignore them altogether... and not speak to them. Sometimes it does feel like I'm sitting at the kiddy table on this site, but thankfully there are enough mature younger members and adults who come along once in a while to redeem my faith that this forum still has good people on it.

The trick is to weed out the good from the bad, and look at one's history of posting rather than that one incident that really ticked you off.

What am I a detective? Really I'm just a member like you, I may often visit profiles through a friends discussion or something, nothing big.
