REALLY urgent help! Save data lost?

Archive: 15 posts

So, I was playing LBP2, specifically, "リビッツの大冒険~古代遺跡の秘宝~ (Adventure in ruins ver4.7)", and my game crashed. I turned off my PS3, booted it up again, went back into LBP2, and the game said that something about my profile data being changed and asking if I wanted to import it. Not knowing why it was asking this, I said no. It then started on the intro level. I went through it, and when I got to the pod, my character still had all the costumes I had before, but I could only edit my costume, nothing else, and I only had access to storymode, which had no save data (I had completed it).

I paused, went to profile, and recovered the only profile there, but THAT profile doesn't have all my regular stuff, and now I'm stuck with none of my stuff. My planet and published levels are the same, but there's NOTHING on my moon. I'm freaking out. What do I do???

In "Game Data Utility" I see "LittleBigPlanet2" (save data?) and a Little Big Planet 2 profile... how do I open them back up in LBP2?2011-03-31 05:49:00

Your online planet has nothing to do with your saved ps3 profile. You can back up your profile by hitting pause, goto profile settings towards the bottom and back-up. If you had not done that before it will be no good. It sounds like you have lost everything saved. Did you have anything glitches in your pod? That can cause it, but with LBP2 as glitchy as it is I am sure anything could have caused it.2011-03-31 06:52:00

So you're saying everything I did in LBP2 is lost? Just like that? Simply from a crash? *Cries*

Are you sure there's no way to recover it?

No... I didn't realize I could lose everything just like that D:

Especially since my game data utility still has a profile and game data created on January 19th. If I lost everything, wouldn't this "new" profile have the current date?

perhaps you should save that data on a thumb drive incase you can do something. Whne I lost my first three levels, I forgot to back of the data and lost it all when I was messing around try to recover them. I back up my levels and profile...and I should also back them up on disk incase the PS3 dies...but keep forgeting. They should make the profile back-up more obvious instead of having it hidden like it is. You can email MM, they may get back to you, you neveer said if you had glitched items in your pod or such. Just a few more details on the crash cause.2011-03-31 08:11:00

Hmmm, no, no glitched items. Quite literally, I just played a level, the game crashed, turned off my PS3 and rebooted it by normal means, and BOOM, data lost.2011-03-31 08:20:00

That sucks, I wonder if it occured while your profile was saving. Mine has crashed hundreds of times, and while I have lost data from saves, i have not lost my entire profile. I would back-up your data you were looking at before trying anything so you can go back incase it is too late, email MM your save data (they do get back to people randomly, they got back to me on my first few levels vanishing...they didn't do anything to help me...but I think they used the data to prevent it from occuring again. I know what I am saying is not helping you restore the data, but before you do what I did, make a copy of your data.2011-03-31 08:31:00

Well, thank you. Luckily, I had only worked on one level in LBP2, here:

But it's not too big a deal, just, as you can imagine, extremely frustrating.

Yeah...all I have left of those levels I lost are some photos I was using to save background thermo and a couple figures. It still could be worth an MM email though.2011-03-31 12:06:00

I looked and can't find it in my email, but I am sure someone here can correct me, I think it was just their main mm email that they ask you to sedn it too. Goto their site and I think it is there. It may not be worth your time, but I had many hundreds of hours lost.2011-04-01 01:29:00

This was a feature I escalated with Sony and Media Molecule; 'to have a manual back up utility'. I kept loosing my profile and there was only an in-game save which was unreliable. Now when the Game freezes or profile is lost, I only loose an hours worth of work at most

The Profile Backup Utility is the most important feature in LBP 1 & 2 and should be used regularly. When you finish a days worth of work, back-up the games save data onto a USB Drive. Make sure you don't leave any USB drive or PS3 near magnets like speakers or it can wipe your drives clean.
