Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

First trailer is up:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fazs0OSx-4g

Looks similar to Dead Rising except with a much more serious tone. The game is supposed to be multiplayer only so they are definitely trying something different with the series. Best news of all? He who makes an appearance at the end of the trailer

That looks pretty interesting. I'm not sure if that was Nemesis or Mr.X @0:40... or maybe they'll have both?
Ugh, yet another game to put on the list lol.

Yeah this year is crazy for games, why did they have to announce this lol. I have owned pretty much every Resi game so I have to buy this by default. Also, Resident Evil Revival Selection was recently announced which is RE4 (aka, one of the best video games ever made) and Code Veronica: Directors Cut remastered in HD on one disc. I played the hell out of both of those games but playing them in HD? I just can't resist

EDIT

RE:ORC will be the best RE ever if Barry Burton is a selectable character (yes, let's just ignore the Resi timeline and the fact that he is dead, I want me some more "master of unlocking" quotes!)

Hm...gonna watch the trailer but first of all I want to say that imho Japanese IP have to be handled by Japanese devs.
We're risking to lose a big asset in the gaming production.
I respect more , EA and THQ for Child Of Eden, Shadow Of The ****ed and Devil's Third respectively than Capcom for Dead Rising 2, Dmc and this
Gotta see the trailer nao

Holy sh...thanks for sharing that, how exactly is the game though? It looks like RE2, but will they go back to the roots, 3rd person, or there gonna try something new?
And was it me, or was that big guy in the beggining nemesis?

I hope its on PS3

@Omega - i understand your skepticism but we will just have to wait and see how things develop. As a first trailer it looks promising (unlike DMC...) and after reading the info below you should be excited

@Bloo_boy - OF COURSE it's on the PS3, why else would a loyal minion of Sony such as myself create a topic for it lol (it will be on 360 too). As for game play, here are some details:

-The game takes place in 1998, a time where Resident Evil fans already know what's set to take place. The title lets you enjoy the series from a new perspective, as the men and women who are technically responsible for it all.

-Rather than continuing the zombie slaying antics of BSAA agents, you're taken back to the original outbreak "that underscored both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis."

-The game doesn't require any crazy amounts of knowledge of the past titles or characters involved in the series. The title opens up to a "quartet of new faces". Essentially, you're playing as members of the official Umbrella Security Services squad.

-Operation Raccoon City is a team-based shooter allowing four members of the USS team to destroy all evidence of the ongoing outbreak. Along with slaying the zombies, you're looking to "kill pretty much every survivor possible".

-The gameplay is described as "dirty", and the series will feel much darker than it has up to this point.

-The game features three factions that Capcom has stated make up a "three-corner conflict". The other two factions are the US Spec Ops, who are there to repel the USS, and the "bio-organic weapon monsters (BOWs) created by Umbrella.

-The USS team is made up of the following characters: Vector, Beltway, Bertha, and Spectre. Depending on which character you choose, the responsibilities that you're asked to do within your team will variate.

-Hunk, first seen in Resident Evil 2 as a hidden character, is the inspiration behind the USS team.

-"Whichever team you play on, you'll be facing Umbrella-created horrors in between skirmishes with each other".

-Zombies in the game can sense you in three different manners: sight, sound, and smell.A situation is described in the game where Vector cloaks himself to stir up previously slumbering zombies to use against the Special Ops military foes.

-Quite a few scenarios in the game aren't "all about headshots". A quote in the article states, "It's about shooting the other soldiers - manipulating the, making them bleed."

-The game will take you through a number of familiar areas if you're a Resident Evil junkie who remembers your journey to Raccoon City.

-Operation Raccoon City, depending on how you play the game, will give you the option to "change the history of Resident Evil". Not only will you have the chance to meet and interact with various characters from the series, but you'll even have the opportunity to kill them.

-One of th mottos repeated to OXM throughout the demo was "Kill Leon". It's also stated that if you choose to represent in the game as the Special Ops team, that you'd more than likely have the goal of trying to save Leon Kennedy.

-Slant Six or Capcom won't reveal if any other characters will be playable in the title just yet, but it'd make sense to see quite a few big cameos.

-The title will still see players relying on collecting herbs to heal from any attacks you may suffer. You won't need to hoard any herbs, but they'll still benefit you to collect them throughout the game.

-"This is not a one-versus-one game where you've got one clip full of ammo and zombies on you. If you've ever thought of those times in an RE game when you thought, 'I'd wish I had a big gun', that's what this game is. It's not fair to give people big guns, then take all the ammo away."

-One of the pictures in the article showcases a zombie being used as a "meatshield".

-Operation Raccoon City allows players to earn XP for kills, with these points helping you survive the onslaught, and to help to encourage you to anihilate everything in your path.

-The XP will allow you to earn new abilities, such as Vector's cloaking skill, and new weapons.

-Tyrants will most definitely be included in the title.

This could be different to to the other stuff Capcom have been sending west, the others have been sequels and reboots this looks like a spin off game and looking at the type of game they're going for it fits in with what the developer has experience of working on previously.

This game sounds pretty wicked. It might even beat Left 4 Dead when it comes to co-op zombie slaying. With no sign of a Left 4 Dead 3 at the moment it's got a clear opening. Let's hope the game meets all it's potential. If it does I'll definitely be picking it up. I love co-op and community focused games.2011-04-01 02:15:00

I already know the news OCK, they were released in PSMania here in Italy (the game has a 4 pages piece and it's the cover game)
Still, I find hard to get in the shoes of masked evil guys with not so much personality (the design is too bland)
And the point about Japan is not about the quality, it's about the character design, the way characters are animated, they're take on representing the Western stuff.

I'll give it a go because it's Resident Evil (my favorite series of all time). But I'm definitely NOT happy with the direction in which Capcom is taking the series.

I just hope with all I've got that Resident Evil 6 (cause we know it's gonna happen) is AMAZING. <3

Though Revelations (3DS) does look pretty good. Going back to the roots, what I like to see.

P.S. Resident Evil 2 (not four, most definitely not four) is the best game ever made. But to each his own.

EDIT: @OCK Erm....where did you hear Barry was dead?

Yeah he did lol. Like I said, didn't he escape on that helicopter?

Little off topic, but my friend and I were talking about how awesome (aka hilarious) it would be for Capcom to make a Mercenaries game (similar to mercenaries 3D) but you'd be playing as deceased characters (i.e. Alfred Ashford, Steve Burnside, William Birkin, etc). Barry wasn't on our list as he's still living, lol.

A mercenaries backwards?....using the dead to kill the living, I gotta admit thats a pretty darn cool idea

It would be pretty cool to use nemesis or one of those red lizard dude (forgot their names)

Well not exactly (though that does sound intriguing...). It'd function the same as regular Mercenaries modes, only you'd be playing as deceased characters, much like Excella in RE5, the way they looked before they died. You'd still be killing zombies and everything, just not as the typical Jill, Chris, Wesker set up.

Red lizard dudes? Lickers? I love those.

Playing as B.O.W.'s would be pretty fun, though I think they have something like that in mind for Operation Raccoon City from the sounds of it.
