True Blood

True Blood is a great show that puts a new twists on vampires, in the spoiler is a little summary that sets up the plot, but below that are my thoughts on the show.

Alan Ball, creator of Six Feet Under, returns to HBO with a new series based on the novel series Southern Vampire by Charlaine Harris. The series follows Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic barmaid who finds comfort in the company of vampires since they have no brainwave activity for her to read. She and her brother Jason were raised by her grandmother after losing their parents in a flood and she tries to keep her telepathic ability a secret. Thanks largely in part to the creation of a Japanese-made synthetic blood called True Blood (where the series takes it name) vampires have make their existence known to the world. Sookie works at the bar 'Merlotte's' which is owned and operated by her boss Sam Merlotte who has a secret of his own.

This show is definetly for older audiences, and contains some really gory scenes, and some nudity. (hey, its HBO)

True Blood isnt your regular Vampire show, It has some really great and odd characters like Laffayette. who is an openly *** black man who sells "V" or Vampire blood, in TrueBlood, Vampire blood acts like a drug, that "makes you feel like you own the world".

This show has gotten consistently good reviews from IGN, and the first season has just ended. IGN calls the show "a little campy" and this is quoted from the season finale review:

how can a show not be just a bit campy when a naked shapeshifting man buries an extra crispy vampire after he tries to save a girl who can hear other people's thoughts? And then the girl chops the head off a murderer (who has a fake Cajun accent) with a shovel. In a graveyard. Man, I love this show.


IGN is right, this show is freaking awesome, it doesnt take itself seriously, its really funny at times, and is a refreshing change.
If anyone has HBO and watches TrueBlood, share your thoughts.

I have HBO, but not upstairs in my room where I do most of my TV watching (which is about an hour a day, tops). If anything, I'll end up watching some on the internet.2008-11-30 05:09:00

i was watching HBO the other day and watched about 15 minutes of this show.
It was pretty cool, wish i woulda been watching it since the beginning.

Watched the whole season and feel it's probably the best new show in quite some time. Not much else to say other than I look at Anna Paquin in a completely different light now... 2008-11-30 13:35:00

My girlfriend watches this show and it's alright. I can't help but laugh at the extremely southern accents though. That and the fact that the vampire's name is Bill. And the fact that the woman he likes is pretty ugly.2008-11-30 16:02:00

haha congratulations! It is good when other people like a good show. I forgot i had indeed seen the first episode before and forgot what it was called. Great show i really like it and am grateful you have reminded me of it. Another good show if your interested is Sons Of Anarchy. It's a more mature show because of language and violence but the show is engrossing and great to watch.2008-11-30 22:03:00

My parents dont care, they dont believe violence in tv and videogames can corrupt children, and i agree with them. TrueBlood has plenty of nudity, im really wondering why maryann was in the middle of the road naked with a pig standing beside her		2008-11-30 22:14:00

Sadly, we'll be waiting for about nine months or so. I've got Dexter, Nip/Tuck and Major League Baseball until then. Somehow the seasons always manage to pass in record time...		2008-12-02 20:05:00

Dexter is fantastic if you're a psychological thriller fan. Let me put it this way: if you were rooting for Hannibal Lecter at any point then you're sure to love Dexter.		2008-12-02 21:49:00
