Bumper Car Hell Ver 1.0 (Now with video)

Although the video given below is of low-quality, it gives an impression about how fun the level is when played with 4 players...

Bumper Car Hell Ver 1.0 is a VERSUS level. However, with my latest addition you can train yourself in the absence of your rivals. The game is intended for multiplayer. And it is guaranteed fun. So please play with your friends. Try to crash other players to make them fall down from the arena and run away from the malicious eyes. Boost charges in every 5 seconds. Thanks to ChazPrime for the retro arcade font, which I used abundantly in my level. I plan to add rockets and bombs if the level attracts enough attention. Have fun.

It has a really nice look to it.... queued up! You would probably get a bit more attention by using F4F, but obviously you don't need to do that. I'll check it out tomorrow and get some feedback for you.2011-03-30 14:37:00

But as you see, this was what I meant in the sour thread I opened. Even if you try to advertise your level and post it to a blog (or to the "levels" section of this site) few people visit the page you opened (and most of them don't queue your level). LBP is a big ocean and a creator is a plankton (not even a fish). So I lost all hope in making people hear about my level. That's why I don't plan to make another one.2011-03-31 07:22:00

Thanks a lot for your advices nachthai... I'll try my best, however, I'm pretty sure that I won't be makin another level if my level doesn't get played by 100 people at least (and think about it I say 100 in a game played regularly at least by 500.000 people). I'm sad to say that I've lost my faith in the game long before... People say things like "You aim to be famous" and such stuff... This is ridiculous. All I want is to "share" my work with others. And isn't (or wasn't) the SHARE part of the PLAY, CREATE, SHARE trio aimed at that?

As i already said in your topic, your sadness regarding the Share part of the game is something that's hitting many creators. It's quite a shame people are giving up creating but it's understandable, since the current system is terribly broken. The only suggestion i can give is try to do a F4F thread and give feedback to other people, because they will definitely return it and help you improve your level while getting some attention at the same time. In this way you should be able to reach 100 plays over time.
I'll check your level in the evening (hopefully with a friend) and leave you some feedback

Thanks Vergil, I agree with you... The SHARE system is completely broken... Some may think otherwise but those are the people with MMpicked levels... So no problem for them...

If you're referring to me i tried yesterday evening but i couldn't play because the server weren't working for me, and every online level apart from my own failed to load . I can't play today but i'll definitely check it tomorrow.

Yes, Vergil, I referred to you and cubbage. I hope you can try it soon.

In the meantime, there's something that I "detest" about the LBP community. I want to share that thought with you and all the people reading this post. Although, in my level, I repeated many times that my level is intended for "multiplayer", some people have given negative ratings without even playing it with their friends. These are either those who can't speak English or ***** people at best (fill in the blank with the suitable word of your choice). Yes, there's "democracy" in LBP (some may call it like that). People may either like or not like a level. However, entering a "versus" level alone and giving it a "boo", that's something I just can't understand. It CAN'T BE FUN alone. I mean c'mon! They should have at least played it with someone!

The "kids" out there certainly do this A LOT.

Finally tried it yesterday:

-The level is quite fun and i like the overall details, the menu and the actual gameplay system leading to fast rounds with the sudden death circles.

-The size of the level doesn't work for much 2 players: either the cars are too small or the playing area is too big. Now it's easy to constantly miss each other, even though this is a issue for 2 players. Maybe having separate arenas for the various number of players can help, with the 2 players arena being smaller.

-I noticed that if i ram into the opponent when he's close to the edge with the turbo i always end outside leading to a draw. This actually happened 3 times in a row .
I believe using the material tweaker on the cars to make them bounce when they hit something should help avoiding this issue.

Yeah, at the edge, things get hard, I admit it... But that's a difficulty that people can get used to and overcome, I guess...

Seperate arenas for different number of players...

A good idea (I also thought about it before)... However, I see that most people played the level "alone"... So, what's the use of complicating everything and making major changes in the game (which I believe is impossible to achieve after this moment)... Groups of players don't visit the level... So, there's no use (I think)....

One more thing...

Using the material tweaker is a great idea and I may implement it sometime...

I used the gravity tweaker for crashes but I believe that would yield better results...

Ok, I played it several times with my son.... sorry for not playing it the other night, but for some reason I think the server your game is on was having an issue - it would take FOREVER just for your profile to appear, and then when I would try to start the game it waited about 5 minutes and then said "failed to load". Happened over and over. I had someone else with me, and eventually I had to move on. Tried it today, and it worked fine.

Anyhoo - here's my feedback:

Lots of fun one you play it for a bit and get the nuances of it. I needed to wrap my head around the fact that it isn't as much bumper cars.... as it is pushing the other player and trying not to get hit by those colored things.

Visually, it's a nice looking level. The cars look great, and the arena looks stylized.... although I think the "futuristic" outside area looked a bit better than the solid mgs material used for the middle part. But, not a big deal - looked nice.

There were several things, however, that I felt could improve the game:

1. Maybe play with the strength of the movers to get more of a "bumper car" affect when hitting someone. It's a bit odd that, even though it's called "bumper cars" you more "push" the other players around the arena. Maybe even have a button that has a pinball "bumper" affect you can do when you are near your opponent to kick them away from you.

2. Camera - having a single pulled-back camera instead of separate game cameras for the players makes the players' cars really small.

3. The effects on the boost were a bit lacking - at first I thought it was a weapon that you could shoot out the back at your opponents.

4. My son (who is 9) didn't like it that much. He's actually a pretty good sport about things, but he didn't like that we would sometimes get stuck on each other, or he would get stuck in an entrance and couldn't move for a bit - only to get killed while stuck. I usually give things a fair chance and get used to mechanics, but kids will many times rage-quit when they get frustrated.

In general, it's a nice game - but it may not be immediately evident to players hopping in to the level how much fun it is when you give it a chance. I think some of the above suggestions could take it from a "it's pretty cool" to a "WOW!!!" level if you worked on the mechanics to perfect them a bit more - gave the player some REAL satisfaction when they hit another player, maybe have some weapons - more special affects.
