The Lion King Movie Level (Anyone want to help?)

Archive: 20 posts

So I recently began making a movie level (part one) based off of the Disney classic, "The Lion King". I really want it to be well made and fun to watch, so I wanted some help with two things. Anyone who helps I will credit, of course. I'm looking for people who are willing to help with music, and animal structure... I can not compose music in LBP2 for my life, and I'm going to need music boxes for all 5 songs and 4 background scores from the Lion King movie. Right now all I need is Circle of Life... I can not compose music in LBP2 for my life, and I'm going to need music boxes for all 5 songs and 4 background scores from the Lion King movie. Right now all I need is Circle of Life:

I can show you some of what I've done so far:

Animation using many different frames:

Opening Scene:

Animation in action (of course, a video would be better):

Gazelle close ups (incomplete):

http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/9f30dec287f644260af51dd7ffc796c8837ea541.jpg

And lastly, the stampede, based off of the stampede in the broadway show as seen below:

http://www.jimhillmedia.com/mb/images/upload/stampede-model-web.jpg

It may not look too impressive there but the background is scrolling, the buffalo all move up and down, and the actual shot through the camera has more depth and becomes unfocused after the first two rows of buffalo, adding a lot of depth to the scene.

that looks really good! I'll help out with anamatronics where i can. I can't commit to entire levels, but I would love to help a project like this by pitching in where i can.2011-03-30 07:08:00

No problem! We work on each shot individually, and in theory, as far as circle of life goes (the first part) the time will match up almost exactly to the movie, with each shot lasting the same amount of time as in the movie. There's a lot we have to do, I just hope the thermo doesn't give us too much trouble. Just add me as a friend on PSN, and you can help contribute. If there's a specific scene you want to work on, just tell me or you can ask me for one that needs to be done.

The circle of life is the hardest part, since it's mostly frame by frame animation and animatronic animals, the main "actors" will be sackbots made to look like their respective animals.

The stampede is... kind of out of place right now, it won't fit in the first part. I just wanted to get it out of the way. I may replace the buffalo (actually, they're wildebeests, aren't they?) to be more realistic and recognizable.

Bump? Someone who could work on music would really be helpful... we can't really make progress without it.2011-03-30 21:20:00

Yeah, so, I remade the intro with the sun rising and the gazelle animation (although I'm still working on what the best animation speed might be), but I still need to remake one more scene and I'll be more or less at the same point I was before. Any help, especially with music, would really be appreciated!2011-04-01 10:16:00

Oh, thank you so much! I was starting to think no one would help compose. Just one request... try to keep it from sounding too... synth-like. I know that LBP2 doesn't give you much flexibility in that department, but just try to make sure it doesn't sound as though it's 8-bit 2011-04-02 03:53:00

it will be as accurate as it could possibly be haha I like that you're doing the show and not the movie so I'll try my best to avoid cheesy-ness with it, though yea, i cant really promise a whole lot.2011-04-02 18:13:00

Just to be sure I'm doing the Disney one.

Also would you want me to try to put my own spin on it? Like maybe a light-hearted lbp version? or should I try to make it the emotional kinda drawn out process that it is in the movie (which I'm not even sure is going to happen either way)?

I'm not sure if the show has a different version or if you want the elton john version, but I can't imagine theres much difference if there is another version for the show or something.

I think we should try for the emotional, movie feel. Especially since part 1 is going to be a nearly exact remake of the Circle of Life sequence from the movie. The level kind of switches between being based on the movie and being based on the show... the show pops up where LBP limitations kick in, like the stampede, just because the show itself even has some elements that remind me of LBP. But anyway, I just want the regular, movie version. Looking through the instruments in LBP2 again... not many good choices, but as long as it doesn't sound like it's playing off an NES (which I hear with a LOT of LBP2 music) I'll be happy with it.2011-04-03 02:30:00

So, I remade almost all the progress I had made (except the stampede, but that won't be in this part anyway). I tried to add at least one new thing in each scene to convince myself that losing all my progress was worth it

Sunrise Mk.II (Clouds now slowly drift, one more tree added):

Gazelle jumps Mk.II (The shapes are definitely better)

Rafiki's hands Mk.II (I didn't show these before, but they are more heavily shaded now and both arms are different in terms of shading and slightly shape):

Wow! Thisis absolutly amazing! For the thermo thing, you can have something that deletes the old stuff and then emit new things. But idk. I can't wait to see this, Lion King is my favorite disney movie. I watched it all the time as a kid, and still do to this day! You may also want to consider parts that you play as Simba. This is going to be awesome2011-04-11 00:20:00
