Long create sessions

Archive: 22 posts

We need more lighthearted threads around here.

How long is your average create session? I don't really create during the week, so I have to get lots done during the weekend. So, my average create session is somewhere between 12 to 16 hours. Only stopping to eat, and BR breaks. I know it's sad, but If I ever want to get anything done I gotta put that time in on the weekends.

So, who else puts in the long hours?

I don't think many people are gonna t here with that title, dude...

I mean, I don't think ther's many people out there who're proud to "have no life" or would openly admit it.
I mean, most likely there are a few exceptions, but most people would either lie, or just not say anyting of the matter.

Maybe change the title a little, you know, word it differently, sugar coat it, and all that?

hmmmm Spring break last week I calculated that I have played 118 hrs, but that was before i started playing +12 hrs every day i was home on spring break so add like 36-60 hrs to that.

conclusion school should be harder and give more homework.

Sorry, I didn't actually think someone would take the title literally. I changed it anyways.

My prob is I do have a life, and it keeps me from LBP2. Wish I had more time.

6-8 hours on a weekday ( I do have to work and sleep) and weekends it depends. Normal would be 8 -12 depending on if I have real life stuff going on.2011-03-30 07:06:00

If i'm party leader, all day. I just like to make lots of insane stuff. My personal favourite is sackbots. I love how quick and nimble they can become with just a few bits and bobs.2011-03-30 07:40:00

Up to one hour a night if I'm in the mood. More on the weekends though.
Usually I get stopped by logic, so I'm forced to take a break/quit.

When I worked on my competition entry, I spent 100% of my free time on it and I got burnt out.
I didn't touch create mode for at least a week after that.

All depends if I'm in the creating mood really..

Hah. Hm.

Even though I absolutely adore everything about LBP and then especially the creative process, I do have a life that involves lots of activities that people expect me to(and that I want to) participate in.
Sports, my band, concerts, hiking, you name it.

Still, deep down I've always been a hardcore gamer and that's why the concept of LBP fascinates me so.
That combined with me being a rather obsessive person I let myself suck into looong create sessions that may span over entire weekends and sometimes I even spend all my after hours time in pause mode during the weekdays as well.

I just can't quit! Like, with Modern Warfare, Battlefield, or any other community based title, I'm ususally able to put it down quite easily after a couple of hours. But with LBP. No way.

I thought that the three weeks I just spent on the road with my job was going to tone down the obsession a little bit, but no, I find myself on the forums all the time.

I hope to find some sort of balance where I can avoid worrying those around me at the same time as I can keep creating.

Ha. Me too. I've been fighting the same battle since LBP came out. My way of dealing with it is, I usually take the whole summer off. I struggle with that though. Oh yeah. Did I mention my wife hates LBP. She probably wouldn't if I didn't have those long create sessions.

In my previous levels I have built for around 12-16 hours on weekends, and 7-9 hours during weekdays. I spend alot of my time building levels, but now i've cooled down alot and only build for 2-4 hours at most before either taking a break or playing another game. 2011-03-30 10:14:00

It used to be 8-12 hours a day on average. However, my wife decided to leave me because I started "living in the game", and then I screwed up at work while preoccupied with the idea of losing my family, and ended up quitting because I knew that I had become psychologically unfit for the job. So I've been trying hard to cut down drastically on the amount of time I spend in create mode, and to be honest I've lost my passion for it now anyways, having forced myself to re-evaluate what's most important in my life.

LBP is an addictive drug. I'm sure I'm not the first person to let it destroy my life, and I'm sure I won't be the last.

I reached a max of 4 hours, though I usually create for 40 minutes...unless I'm doing music with the sequencer, in that case I work until I've finished the stuff, and it can be up to 8-9 hours.2011-03-30 11:14:00

It is addicting, great fun, frustrating, rewarding, satisfying and down right annoying... I would love to have a good long session/s with Lbp2, my partner does not understand it, mocks me if anything, making me wonder if I should be just pack it all away and join the regular 'normal' world of go to work/ eat/ watch soaps/ start all over the next day... weekends? Well, let's go around a diy store or visit the family/friends. I can only snatch the odd hour here and there, this was great for story mode but that does not work for create mode. Is there an Lbp2 camp I could go to for a small holiday? I have been getting into crysis2 as it is a lot easier to pick from where I left off, satisfies my gaming fix... tips on juggling life would be appreiciated... I want to be in a relationship, want, well need to go to work... but I can easily sit and game for hours on end - a product of growing up through the 80's maybe?2011-03-30 11:39:00

Sorry to hear that.

This is exactly why I take the summer off. I try to stay off as long as I can. In 09 I managed to stay off for around 6 to 7 months. That seemed to satisfy my wife. Now I'm back at it, but she knows I'll quit in the summer again, because I proved I can do it. So for me, every summer I'll take off. As it achieves the balance I need to juggle LBP, and real life.

Well, I once lost an entire weekend to create mode - started on friday night - went into create mode for what seemed like "a few hours" ; and when I looked up at the clock it was Monday morning... a near solid 48 hour stint.

In that time I managed to (pretty much) entirely create my "Magical Musical Workshop" level (see sig) ; so it wasn't exactly a "wasted" weekend. I will forever have that testament to the lost weekend

for the rest of the day... i don't get it... i have all the free time i want yet I'm hardly ever in the mood
to create... and just trying to force my self don't help, i just seem to have horriblely low mojo
and just can't do anything for long till i just quit for a long time. sigh... guess i just got to keep trying more...

It that real? That's really sad, I feel for you
In fact I have to warn my husband when I'm going onto LBP as I take over the living room and he gets banished upstairs to the bedroom or watches stuff on the PC or laptop. When I'm on a long creating session he ends up having to call me to go to bed to sleep as we both have work the next day. So yes it's very time consuming. It's important to take time out so we have a date night every week. Since we both game, he is also my co-op buddy and we play games together. Then weekends anything goes. As it's important to have a balance between work, rest and play.

I been known for doing 12 hour days, so I now limit myself to 2 days a week on the PS3. Everything in moderation is best.

Another thing slightly off topic but due to previous post in here... I don't get why loads of girlsfriends and wife's ban boyfriends or husbands from gaming when it's something they enjoy. Unless it's gone beyound addiction levels. I tell fellow girls that I know, that they should join in and be a part of it. It may be different if you have kids to bring up. But stopping it altogether isn't fair to me. Then again I'm a bit of a gamer myself. I know guys that have spent money on consoles only for it to just there collecting dust. If you've got it use it. Like telling a woman here have these expensive Jimmy Choo shoes but don't wear them.

I actually spend most of my time playing LBP2 in Create Mode. It's fun to mess around with friends.2011-04-01 23:45:00

It varies A LOT.

Sometimes, like yesterday for example, I spend all day on LBP. Literally, from 8:00am to 1:00am. Other times, 5 minites then give up.

I'm LBPI-Polar, lol.

I find it helps to be around energetic people because they can help give you their energy and motivation to actually do stuff. Working with/for someone else or in a group is easier than doing it by yourself, though I dunno if you feel the same about that. Even just posting some of your ideas or things you're working on here on LBPC might help spur you on, just the process of writing it out might help cement things so it's easier to act on.
