White Knight Chronicles

Archive: 12 posts

So um, I don't think there's a thread on this already, and if there is, then I didn't know if I should post in it or not, but umm...yeah.

Anyways, does anyone here own/play White Knight Chronicles? I picked it up recently and I'm pretty addicted to it. I've been wanting to play the online portion, but I don't think anyone plays it anymore, and if they do, they're all high leveled. So, does anyone here still play it? I only have a level 24, so I'm not all that high leveled yet, but I'd be more than happy to make a new character for the sake of playing with someone if they want to.

Its a great game

WKC 2 will be out soon, not sure exactly when though, the best part of it is being online teaming up with folk, thats where the real meat of the game is, with a whole bunch of optional bosses, and items, weapons, a whole bunch of quests and stuff to do, its really cool

Or something just hanging out being random is the best part XD
But yeah its a great game ^^

I was always semi-interested in it... but never picked it up;

Why?

Well, because I was a MASSIVE fan of Dark Cloud (though it never lived up to it's potential) and it's sequel Dark Chronicles (which was for my money, one of the best games on the PS2) ;
And White Knight Chronicles (by all accounts) is a super dumbed down version of Dark Chronicles.

So to spare myself the dissapointment, I've totally avoided it.

It's a great game, I even attempted to get the platinum trophy for it. But yeah considering all the grinding that's required. Just no...2011-03-30 10:28:00

Does anyone know how it compares with it's predecessor "Dark Chronicles"?

I might just pick it up

Yeah, Famitsu gave WKC2 a 32/40, where they gave 1 a 29/40. You're supposed to be able to have your own Knight which is customizable, and your avatar actually has significance in the storyline. That was the only thing that bothered me about the story: I went through all the trouble of making an avatar, and he doesn't get any screen time! They flat out ignore your avatar after the intro sequence.

I've been wanting to play the game online, but every time I start a quest, no one is playing said quest >_> Multiplayer is the best part of the game and I'm missing out. Guess that's what I get when I'm a year late to the party though.

As for comparing it to Dark Cloud, you might wanna rent this one first. The Georama is there, but you have to spend a lot of money (and time) to upgrade it so you can actually fully customize your town. The battle system isn't bad (It's a little slow really, which is being fixed in 2.) and it's really pretty cut and dry. Kill stuff, level up. There's more to it than that of course, but you should know that it's standard in terms of RPG's. So no, you can't collect Apples of Eden to increase your max HP. The Georama is nice. It's just stupid you have to pay real money to get the better stuff though. (I suppose that is to be expected...)

Edit: By money for upgrading your town, I mean in game gold, not real money. Sorry if that wasn't clear. You have to pay real money for extra georama parts. But you can do everything without them though from what I understand.

The making your own town gotta admit is pretty cool, and Dark Cloud is an amazing game, but its way better than WKC (to me).

Dark Cloud has a different feeling than this one.
And supposdly your avatar actually plays an important role on WKC 2, and yes making your own knight sounds amazing, thats the reason I wanna pick it up =P
And of course im curious about the story...theres gonna be a big war in WKC 2.

So I finally picked this up yesterday (WKC2)... and I'm pleasantly surprised.

Probably because there has been such a drought of this type of game for the current generation - but this feels like a home-coming.

It's still half the game that Dark Chronicles was, but that's still twice the game that most other games are.

It's got a nice fantasy setting - I'm drawn in already - and a classic story reminiscent of Lord of The Rings (which is the fantasy bible).

I'm actually liking the psuedo turn-based combat - and there is alot of scope for character customization.
Even the Georama is nicely done (shame about the online pass system - but doesn't affect me 'cos I bought it new).

So, I'm playing through WKC1 just now... and am loving every minute of it.

Does anyone still quest in WKC1?

EDIT: 1 thing that has sullied my enjoyment of the game is the blatant rip-off/profiteering from Level-5/Sony;

Seriously - they are trying to charge just to allow you to edit your own avatar?! Seriously, WTF?! - Since when was it acceptable to REMOVE functionality from a game and try and sell it to you as an 'optional' extra?!
And then there's all the Georama microtransactions - just unlock codes for content THAT IS ALREADY ON THE DISK!!! - I've already bought the game once, I have no interest in buying it again & again, just to gain access to stuff THAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE GAME!

Dark Chronicles had 4 times the amount of content - especially for the Georama - but that was back in the days before DLC - when games actually value for money

They really are taking the Horse Armour principle to the EXTREME in this game - this has to be some of the worst value DLC of ANY GAME!
I was really enjoying it until I realised what a CASH COW they've tried to turn it into.
Well, I'm not an idiot - so they aren't getting more money from me than they already have - all they've done is P**$ me right off and make me question wether I should continue playing a game that penalises you for not spending 3 time the price of the game on DLC!
really, someone should get a punch in the balls for designing this into the game!
