Yesterday I got Guitar Hero World Tour, after my sister told me to get it over Rock Band 2. Was that a good or bad choice? Pros and cons?2008-11-29 22:25:00

To be honest Clank, it was a bad choice, knowing you, you don't like old songs.

Rock Band 2, has a lot of bands that are new, fresh, and I really like Rock band 2 way more the GH4, the only reason a lot of people get GH4 is because of the create your own song thingy, but I personally was really confused with all that.

Rock Band 2 seems like the way to go for you, too bad you can't change it, or can you? I don't know how it works in Arizona .

I can't wait to get it. Bad song? 2 METALLICA AND EVEN A SOAD? How could it get any more epic? Oh right Guitar Hero Metallica is coming out but still with the ability to make your own songs and Death Magnetic up for download I prefer it to Rock Band 2. Rock Band 2 doesn't have the same "flare" as guitar hero.2008-11-30 09:53:00

Well, Rock Band 2 actually has one more sony from SOAD then GH4, they both have B.Y.O.B, but RB2 h as Chop Suey as well, as for Metallica, RB2 has Battery. It doesn't have the whole album though, I don't know for the PS3 version, but the Xbox 360 version got 20 free songs as well. I might as well add that they aren't crap ( most of them at least )2008-11-30 10:03:00

Yeah, I knew that but I farrrr prefer Trapped Under Ice to Battery (except the intro, I love how ironically it doesn't fit with the rest). I mostly want to play Trapped Under Ice because I fail so hard at trying it on real guitar. Chop Suey is ok, but a bit overrated in my eyes, B.Y.O.B, Attack and needles are my favourites from SoaD. I can see myself redoing a lot of songs on GH42008-11-30 10:09:00

I bought RB2, my friend bought GHWT. I prefer RB2, with the added 20 games from the free download, there is a much better mix of songs from the ages, (all 20 are from 2006 onward, covering in my opinion, a fairly large gap in RB2 and GHWT's libraries) and I prefer the way that the singing works in RB2 (I'm guitarist/singer so it matters to me!)I prefer the way that RB2's tour mode works too. Personal preference I guess.2008-12-02 14:32:00

Not quite. There are a lot of similarities between the two games, but the biggest factor for me is DLC. Harmonix has released weekly DLC for over a year now and aren't really showing any signs of slowing down.

Then there's the fact that if you had the first game you can pay a small fee to import all but three of those songs to you HDD and play them in Rock Band 2 as well. Big bonus in my opinion.

At the end of the day, the number of songs available exceeds 500 this week. Simply amazing in my opinion and there's something for everyone.

Seconded. I have nearly 200 songs available on RB2 at the moment. Almost half of which I chose, so I know I like. Yes, the disk can be hit and miss, but you can't argue with your own taste (or lack thereof!)

Let me explain how things worked out in Australia...

Along came Guitar Hero 3. Around this time the original Rock Band came out as well. It was the first game to introduce drums in the western world, and was also one of the first to combine the mic/guitar/bass/drums mechanic.

So... sounds like the better game, compared to just a guitar or two for Guitar Hero 3, right?

Well... I live in Australia. Rockband does not have a huge publisher like Activision behind them, and so using the two excuses "your market is too small, it's not worth importing the game" and "it's selling so well in places like America that we can't get enough stock to ship"... well, Rockband 1 never saw the light of day in Australia.

Until...

Guitar Hero 4, known as Guitar Hero: World Tour was being developed. It had the same mic/guitar/bass/drums idea that Rockband has. They have arguably a better drum set up I hear, but some would say this is a minor point. Also a minor point is that the new guitars for the guitar hero have a slider thing which makes playing a bit different if you use it. It's not a compulsory feature though.

So... what about Rockband? Around the same time that press releases come out about GH:WT come out, so too comes out information about Rockband 2. It fixes up some of the issues with the original while expanding the track list in new ways.

Australia finally, finally had Rockband 1 officially release. We can now buy this game here.

But...

It released 1 WEEK before GH:WT. And we are not talking about Rock Band 2. This is Rock Band 1. The original. They released an add on disc with an extra 20 songs for about $20 or something, but still...

I think most of the serious gamers in Australia just waited one week and bought GH:WT.

That's what I've done. I'll likely get Rock Band some day, I love music rhythm games.

But why would I spend $300 on a product which is over a year old when a better and bigger product is coming a week later?

So yeah, over here in Australia I think Guitar Hero is the market leader of the two.

Give me a few months and I might get Rock band. I love what Harmonix was doing in the past and I am sure Rockband is a great product.

It's just their timing and marketing is completely awful and lazy here in this country. It's a great shame.

Oh yes, as a side note I like the track list for GH:WT. I'm old, I don't mind old songs.

it's been a month now, and personally, I still prefer RB2. I like the songs better (though there is a fair amount of overlap between GHWT and RB2), and I had a fair bit of DLC from RB1, plus I did the disc transfer, so I now have 100+ songs that I REALLY like, about 50 I don't mind and somewhere in the region of 30 that I struggle through to finish the set.2008-12-26 14:07:00

That's almost exactly how I feel. The songs are much better on Rock Band 2 and I already have some DLC from RB1. Except I got GHWT the band set, and RB2 just the disc. IMO the GHWT drums are better, but it's hard to get used to after you've used only 4 pads. In GHWT there isn't even a song difficulty ranking, you just have to pick a song and hope it's easy. Soooooo...
I like the GHWT peripherals better, but I like RB2 better than GHWT.

"It basically comes down to music taste."

DLC would be included in this... The 20 new songs that came out with Rock Band 2 as free DLC were all 2006+

Thus, music taste definately has an impact on which game you choose.

They both have their pros and cons. I just prefer RB2's music variety more than GHWT, And the final song in GH:WT was just plain stupid. I mean they picked the slowest Dream Theatre for the final song... I was expecting Fury Of the Storm by DragonForce.

Meh...

Plus, the songs people have been making in GH:WT are pretty bad. I've only seen about 5-10 really good ones, the music maker thing is too difficult for the average Joe.

Wow. One of my threads got revived, and not by me! lol

So, the music creator. It's dumb. All of the music that users have made suck. You can make better songs in LittleBigPlanet (not even kidding).

Anyways, I'm pretty happy with my choice now because three of my friends followed after and got it too, which is just enough people for a full band! XD

So, yeah, Pretty okay with GH:WT.

Even try and transfer my own workings into the game if it's possible. Also the fact that the entire Death Magnetic album is up for download really sways me here.2008-12-27 03:49:00

I prefer Guitar Hero over Rock Band simply because the fretboard and the guitar are much better, Guitar Hero II's visual style was a bit clunky and Harmonix transferred that over to Rock Band, while Activision made it work a whole lot smoother.2008-12-27 22:26:00

I have both GHWT and RB2 and to be honest I don't really know which one is better. Song-wise, if you like newer bands then go play Rock Band 2, if you like the oldies and playing about: 3 Tool songs (too be honest I don't have a clue why they have 3), 3 Jimi Hedrix songs, and 2 Ozzy Osburne songs, get World Tour. Guitar Hero has the better drums and better guitar (but I still don't like it) and allows you to be more creative with character deisgn plus you get to make songs (but it'll take you awhile before you make anything good).

It's really all about personal taste.

You may want to try calibrating your TV. >.>

Creative: I prefer Rock Band, and it has won Best Music Game on just about every top games of 2008 list. Despite what people say, the periferals are pretty good, though they take a little getting used to.

And if anyone cares:

Bass: Expert
Drums: Expert
Vocals: Hard

High Five!

But anyways, Creative, it really comes down to these few things.

-Do you want, a huge list of songs? That are actually good, I haven't seen any good songs on GH:WT yet so I might be wrong. And RockBand2 has about 500 I believe. I have about 250 on my bros 360. It comes with 20 free songs, and you're probably thinking free? They suck then, actually no they're actually really good.

Especially Prequel to the Sequel, God that song wrecks.

-New or Old songs

-What Instrument are you going to be playing?

-A lot of parties? Because in my opinion, Rock Band 2 has more of those party songs, like seriously I had about 3 girls come over at my house, I was guitar and they were the rest. And OMG they fell in love with Rock Band, like seriously they were fighting over the mic. It was pretty crazy.

To be honest, I HATE GH:WT's song list with a passion, I mean they seriously picked the worse songs. They picked THREE Tool songs? Why three? Expand the horizon please... I didn't see any difficult songs except that one song, Something Boogie, and that song just isn't that great.

Rock Band 2 has a lot of old good songs, and the new.

I don't know, I like a challenge. And I see Rock Band 2 as a fun party game, with hard but really fun songs.

And RockBand just seems more cleaner IMO. I hate the little circles in GH:WT. They just look so ugly, as for the little blocks.

It might take you a bit to notice the difference between regular notes and hammer ons, but it isn't that long, maybe 2 days tops?

As for the notes being hit 2 seconds before? Umm? Wtf are you talking about, it's actually been proven that GH:WT has a wider hit ratio or whatever then Rock Band, which means you can hit the strum bar about 1 seconds before the note comes and you'll still hit it.

As for Rock Band, you have to be pretty precise.

The Band Tour is awesome, Online or Offline. Solo Tour is great too, you can hire your own crew. There's also a Drum Trainer, with tons of good beats to get you good with the drums.

But, after all this. It really comes down to taste. I've told you about Rock Band 2. So, it's your choice.

For those that have both games, what I want to know about is compatability of the controllers.

I use the Guitar Hero: World Tour drums and microphone and use one World Tour guitar and the guitar that came with Guitar Hero 3.

What I want to know is, will these instruments with Rock Band 1 (one). Yes, that's the first one I mean, not the sequel that's out in the US. In Australia and I think Europe, we don't have the sequel Rock Band 2 released yet, and there is no plans for release at the moment.

I'm not interested in "I think so" or maybe, I would like to know either first hand experience or an official source, like Activision, Red Octane or Harmonix.

If the controllers work for Rock Band 1, maybe I'll go out and buy just the software and save myself having to buy a completely new band set up.

I also own GH WT, the only gripe I really have with the game apart from the guitar which I think is worse than the GH3 controller (apart from the touch-pad of course) would have to be the PS3's (not too sure about other consoles, as I only own the PS3 game) online capabilities.

I have yet to be able to find an online game that works, even invites don't work. I get an invite from a PSN friend and get an error message, same problem goes for my friends when I send them the invites. Even just lobby "Search for band/guitar" etc. players gives a "No avaliable person found" message.

So apart from the fact that the online in this game doesn't work (which would actually make me want to play it more) makes it kinda a "Spare Time" game and not a "fun game to play anytime" in my opinion.

great hurrah at last.

Now heres the thing she loves Singstar and I'd like to know how the singing works on these two. which is better?

Also can I use the singstar mic with either of them. I've the blue mic will work with GHWT, but I was wondering if someone could test it for me

I'm almost positive that Singstar microphones will work with both games. And the vocal part itself works pretty well across both games.

As for which to buy, I suggest going with Rock Band simply based on the number of songs you have to choose from. Forget what's on the disc; the DLC is where it's at. Rock Band has had weekly DLC for over a year now whereas Guitar Hero isn't really even trying to compete in that category.

Well now hold on there clank. You shouldn't go posting about like that :[. I expected better from THE CLANK.

Look at this OFFICIAL compatibility chart:
http://blog.wired.com/photos/uncategorized/2008/11/14/ghchart1.jpg

You can see for Xbox and Ps3 that the GHWT drums DO work with Rock band and Rock band 2. The rock band drums (1 and 2) also work with GHWT. Good news for those who want the drums separately and you bought GHWT (Me). Basically, you just wont use the last symbol. With us, our track will be shortened so even on hard and expert there will be no orange. Dont worry though, according to Activision it keeps the same difficulty.

Hope that helps!

Hmmm... it looks like the Guitar Hero 3 guitar (the Les Paul) won't work with Rock Band, but everything else should still work. That sounds like good news, maybe I will get Rock Band 1 then. Might even be worthwhile getting a second World Tour guitar if it's any good.

It's relatively cheap here, I think $60 AUS just for the game. I'll have to look into it.

There is no news of a release date for Rockband 2 - remember Australia is a year behind the US releases. Well, we shall have to see how things go. I suspect Rockband 1 would have tanked though. Certainly, it came out before World Tour, but only by 1 week over here.

Hmmm... it looks like the Guitar Hero 3 guitar (the Les Paul) won't work with Rock Band, but everything else should still work.

Well, I was visiting america for 3 weeks and only got back a few days ago. Sooo many games... I bought 8. LOL. Well, 7, im buying the rock band 1 drums over in the land of Aus. I might make that 9 games if rockband is $60. I am now in Bali (Lotza travelling) but mum gave me $100 for over here. I have spent $30 soo... I can spend about $10 more? Seeing what the price is now.

OMGZZORROZ. Its 100 dollars -_-. Dayam. I have about $20 in my bank account sooo. Darn. DARN.

Only as a last resort. You can get more for most games by selling them direct to another person through things like amazons market place, it's not a fast way of doing it but the money you get will be much higher. Trade ins are only worth it for the stuff that won't sell or that has a low resale value.

if you have a GAME, which is owned by EB, (i don't knwo why they did that, probably for the people who think EB is too expensive and kept EB for people who don't like cheaper places for some unknown reason) you can get GH WT for free by trading in 2 games, which would give you something like $5 at EB2009-01-14 04:13:00

Any suggestions guys?

In my country ... we have this one already at stores (with all instruments) ... now a friend of mine told me that Rock Band 2 is better and I should wait for that game package (with instruments) instead ...

God! Europe is always late ...

Should I wait then? Whats the difference between the two?

Well, if you and that friend hang out a lot, then I suggest you get each one, so that way between the two of you, you can play both. I wouldn't stress the online features of these games to much anyways.
