Aww, Commander Snuggles beat me to it. Whenever these threads come up (every few weeks or so) I always feel compelled to mention Shadow of the Colossus. But, that aside some of my favorite videogame soundtracks come from the Castlevania franchise, even if the quality of the games is not very consistant. Some of the songs and instrumentals from the various Silent Hill OSTs, (when you exclude the tracks that are just several minutes of droning noise and static), rank among the best pieces of music ever composed IMO. Not just in gaming, but in music history itself. The composer's name is Akira Yamaoka and he's an extremely talented guy.
