Community Spotlight Episode 3

Archive: 28 posts

Welcome to our third Community Spotlight! For those of you who don't know, Community Spotlight is a way for us to show off, or "Spotlight", our favorite levels made by you! Our Spotlight Crew scours the Level Showcase (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=40) for awesome levels, and they neatly organize them in a list format to help you find and play them on your own. Each level has comments from each Crew member that selected that level, so you guys can get a good idea of how many Crew members enjoyed it! If media is available, it will be provided in the listing. In order to keep this fair, any users considered "inactive" are separated from the selection and placed in a separate post at the bottom. This is to ensure our active users get the credit they deserve.

Earthquake Evasion - Killian/The_Killian - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5113)

Description:

"The entire level is held up by pistons to achieve the earthquake. It took me 60+ hours to make. There was a seemingly endless amount of flaws but it's finished!" - Killian

A real original! This level has that earthquake feel that doesn't overdo it! The detail in this level is really amazing, from the lights shattering on the ground, elevators that break due to the earthquake, even the falling rocks, this level has that sort of detail you don't find in the "Cool Levels" Page. Make sure to check it out! - Whaaaaale

The earthquake effect created in this level is second to none. The pacing is great and there are plenty of nice touches such as the sound of lights smashing as the earthquake sends them hurtling into the ground. Killian has made a masterpiece and trust me, he knows it! - OCK

Return to Singe Ruins - Tyler/Tylerburrito - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5450)

Description:

"This level is a "sequel" to Singe Ruins. Unlike the first level, however, it has a cast of characters and an actual "story". One of the best parts is, you'll come back several times! There are 10 unlockables, and a lot of them are tough to get or hidden. There are also two multiplayer puzzles and a secret sticker switch. You won't be able to get 100% on the first go, I guarantee it!

There's even an alternate ending...

Meet a team of goofy archaeologists and help them explore a new, undiscovered area in the mysterious Singe Ruins." - Tyler

You know what they say about sequels not being as good as the original right? Well, it's wrong! This sequel to "Singe Ruins" is one of those exceptions! The level has a bunch of custom items to find, some hidden, some needing more than one player, whatever the circumstances, this level will bring you back for more! - Whaaaaale

A level that is superior to it's prequel in every way. There are platforming elements here that I promise you have not seen done anywhere else and once you reach the part where you use the archaeologist to solve some puzzles I know you will be smiling! - OCK

H.A.T.E. - Voltiare/Voltiare - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=4887)

Description:

"H.A.T.E. is Portal without portals. A challenging level through 10 test chambers...each one getting harder than the last. If you can survive Test Chamber #10, you might have a chance to repay the computer who has wronged you..." - Voltiare

A real gem! This level deserves to be on the Community Spotlight for many reasons. It has one of the most complex puzzles I have yet to overcome, it will have you wanting more, get ready to go through 10 difficulty scaling stages, and be ready for stage 10, you won't regret it! - Whaaaaale

This level is lots of fun. It features not only the normal platforming, but also a puzzle you'll really need to think for and a minigame near the middle of the level. Those who are seeking a challenge will also be pleased, as the level is pretty easy at first, but at chamber 10 the difficulty really ramps up. - BassDeluxe

This is one of the top 10 levels I have played in LBP. The design is flawless and as close to perfection as you are likely to find. The level is challenging but never frustrating and everything works just the way it should. A truly unforgettable experience, go play this right now! - OCK

A very well thought out and brilliantly crafted level with a very Portal flavour. I loved Portal and I loved this level just as much. I really loved how you made it your own and there were no direct references to Portal either. - Chaz'oSulls

Good or Evil? - A Knight's Tale - Neverynnal/Neverynnal - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5564)

Description:

"This plot-driven level is an epic tale about a sack-boy's quest to become a knight of the King's court. Upon arriving at the palace you discover the princess of the kingdom has been stolen away and locked in a tower. You are then beckoned to find the princess and bring her back to the King!

You are confronted with the most important decision of your life there-after...to choose between following a path of light or evil! Each path has it's seperate challenges and a boss at the end of it. Your decision effects the outcome at the end of the level, with different consequences/rewards gained!" - Neverynnal

Another multi-path level, this time, each path has a different alignment. What will you choose: Good or Evil? Each path features a different boss and completely different platforming challenges. Both passages lead to the same place, where you get to decide whether you want to save the princess...or something much darker. - BassDeluxe

Sin City (Final Version) - Neverynnal/Neverynnal - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5292)
Description:

"This is Frank Miller's Sin City sack-style! It is an extremely visually stimulating level with a few intense parts and a plot that roughly follows one of the story lines within Miller's graphic novel Sin City. I put a lot of effort into tweaking the level and making it as user-friendly as possible. It takes about 5-7 minutes to complete, and trust me it will be worth the time spent

However, I may have bit off more than I could chew. I spent a total of 30-40hours making this level, mainly trying to get the lighting and effects right. I wasn't able to follow the plot line perfectly, but if you are familiar with Sin City the movie/novel then you will be able to pick it out right away." - Neverynnal

This level is all completely black and white, except for a very vivid red you can see. This level has a quite a lot of enemies in it, which are incorporated in a way that you can't just skip all of them. There's also an exciting part near the beginning in which you will just barely escape death, if you do. There's not much more to the level than this, though; it is fairly short. - BassDeluxe

Surf's Up - chillum007/chillum007 - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5643)

Description:

"This is my second level, I spent a long time getting the speedboat ride to work right and I think the whole thing is just good fun to play. You start off having an INTENSE speedboat ride and land on a beach where you meet some surfers who need help finding their friend. This leads you to climb a lighthouse, escape a dungeon and bungee jump! There is a bit of a puzzle to escape the dungeon, if you listen to the skull he will give you clues." - chillum007

This level is great, because it has so much variety in it. While you won't find a boss in it, you will find everything from intense platforming and puzzles to speedboat rides and bungee jumping. One of the puzzles is especially creative, and while I don't want to give it away, I will say it is the first level I have seen to incorporate this feature in a puzzling way. - BassDeluxe

Lbc-1 rsvp - docpac/drpacifist - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5418)

Description:

"So I decided to go ahead and finish at least one of my 4 open projects. I really wanted to do something bright and cheerful so I started my LBC-1 level a while ago but never got around to wrapping it up until now.

So if you'd like check it out. It's theme, a backyard birthday party complete with bar-b-que pit, bobbing for apples, evil balloons, plenty of stashed bubbles, a ice chest full of your favorite beverages, and hot wings.

I focused on the whole "little" and "big" part of the game. I was aiming to remind people how tall sackboy really is." - docpac

The play on little vs. big was truly brilliant and it really is beautiful work, so much detail that I very rarely see. This level made me feel happy and it was genuinely fun. A wonderful way to celebrate the PS3's birthday! - OCK

The Abandoned Coal Mine - xbriandeadx/xbriandeadx - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=4472)

Description:

"Stumbling upon an abandoned coal mine, you take a dark and mysterious journey into the unknown. There's no telling what awaits in this dark abyss, but finding a way out will surely be a challenge.

Highlights:
-Completely custom design
-First part of a series
-Challenging
-Dark and different(may need to adjust brightness on tv)
-Lighting effects support the "dark and mysterious" theme perfectly

Important note: Losing the miner will prevent further progress in the level, so make sure he is safe at all costs." - xbriandeadx

The level has a dark, hopeless, trapped atmosphere that works perfectly. There are varying gameplay elements and the lighting, custom content and ending in particular are all top notch. The first of a series, look out for the continuation! - OCK

HAWK Lair - KAPBAM/KAPBAM - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5160)
Description:

"Well here it is, HAWK Lair my first new level since the beta! My Going Up level really took off and I'm very proud of it, now here's something different. It's one of those mistery/sci-fi/adventure type of level! It's not very long as it's planned to be a 3 to 4 level series. Hope you guys enjoy it." - KAPBAM

HAWK Lair is set in a snowy environment, where you are infiltrating a secret base. The base is coming apart, though, which is not used to rush you through the level, but rather to create the path. You will find yourself proceeding, noticing the path is blocked, hearing a rumble, turning around, and rubble will have fallen, closing off the old path and making a new one. It isn't done in a sloppy fashion, either, you can tell that KAPBAM put a lot of work into it, and as such, you shouldn't be stopped from going through the level because something didn't fall correctly. - BassDeluxe

A sci-fi journey chock full of custom content and lots of eye-candy. From the snow falling lazily to the vents blowing out steam there is a lot of detail to appreciate here. The ending is quite possibly the best one I have ever seen in LBP! - OCK

Easily one of the best story-driven levels I've played. Clearly much time and effort were put into this level and it's really piqued my interest for the rest of the series. I'm sure it will only get better. - Chaz'oSulls

The Incredible Time Box - Gilgamesh/Jirugameshi - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5463)
Description:

"You are presented with the Time Box, an invention that can temporarily stop time! Unfortunately, The Don and his gang of thugs would very much like to take it for themselves. Can you master the use of the Time Box and stop The Don before it's too late?

This level features various puzzles and enemies for which you will need the power of the box. Needless to say, not only must Sackboy make it through the level, but so must the Time Box." - Gilgamesh

Now here's a great idea. You get the Time Box at the beginning of the level, which, when used, stops literally everything in the level for a short time. This leads to some great puzzles and obstacles. At the end, you get to fight a boss who has his own time box to use. There are also several optional things to do in this level, such as saving someone from a burning building, retrieving stolen diamonds, and disarming a bomb. - BassDeluxe

With Midnight Train he proved he is a creator who thinks outside the box (no pun intended!) and here he has done it again. The idea is innovative, fresh and inspiring. This is a level that needs to played by everyone! - OCK

All I have to say, is that it's people like Gilgamesh who experiment with new ways to play this boundless game with concepts like the Time Box that inspire other creators and spread the awesome around further. Keep it up! - Chaz'oSulls

Razhotep's Tomb - aer0blue/aer0blue - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5517)

Description:

"Deep within the sand tides of Egyptia rests a royal pyramid, hosting the tomb of the late pharoah Razhotep. Many thieves have tried to take advantage of this, attempting to steal the Royal Treasure for themselves. However, doom has befallen any one that ever dared grace the steps of the tomb. It is said Razhotep himself still roams the walls of his royal grave, along with a nasty curse said to haunt any mortal unlucky enough to escape the dreadful place...
Features:

* Platforming
* Puzzles
* Enemies
* Boss Battle
* Branching Path
* Extra 4-Player Puzzle
* Hidden Items
* ...and more!" - aer0blue

I need to be very clear here. This level was one of the easiest hearts I've ever given in LittleBigPlanet. Not only is the level itself just rich in character but the platforming sections are all absolutely rock solid and it fairly chunky level too. I'll definitely keep my eye on you from now on, Aer0. - Chaz'oSulls

The level speaks for itself, the storyline takes place in a tomb, where you will encounter plenty of "boobie" traps, monsters, and a whole lot of puzzles, make sure to bring your "hardcore" game to the table, because you'll need it. - Whaaaaale

This is an absolute masterwork of level design. The traps, puzzles, pacing, visuals and outstanding custom stickers all come together to form one of the best LBP experiences I have ever had. If all levels were made to this standard the world of LBP would be a much better place! - OCK

WOW. What can I say? This is definitely one of the best levels out there right now. While the boss may be a letdown, the platforming and the rest of the level is completely original, fun, and not frustrating. This level also features a x2 path and a x4 section, meaning this level is multiplayer friendly. The level is also beautiful, you'll feel just like you're in a pyramid while you play this. And while that's not true at all, the level is still really great-looking and overall awesome. - BassDeluxe

The Temple of the Golden Cat - carno/carno_US - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5403)
Description:

"Well this is my second level and the first one I build with my wife. Lots of hours of hard work were put into this so I hope you all enjoy it. Almost all the assets are original with the exception of a few trees. Please note the custom creatures and the final puzzle

The objective of the stage is to venture into the jungle and find the long lost Golden Cat. Sackboy is not alone on his journey though, his good pal and local guide Demostenes is with him to give him advice." - carno

What is there to say? This level is just really fun, from the moment you get on the boat, the action begins, from cats with bows and arrows, to the traps laid inside the temple, this level is worth playing! - Whaaaaale

Description:

The Favor: Part 1 is a really fun level, it truly shows you how small Sackboy really is. It has you helping a women retrieve her ring back, and guess where you end up? The sewers! Be ready to meet some roaches as well. Awesome detail, awesome level. - Whaaaaale

The Final Frontier - Sonic5411/Super_sonic5411 - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=4950)

Description:

"This level takes place in outer space. You have to help a poor astronaut find his crash landed space ship and defeat the alien infestation. So check it out i promise you won't be disappointed."

From ClankXIII: "You navigate your way through an asteroid belt where you come upon a crossroads. One path will take you through a mining facility where the working robots don't take kindly to your tresspassing. The other has you exterminating alien creatures which leads you into a lair of a fluffthirsty, well, uh, find out for yourself." - Sonic5411

This is a multi-path level where both paths are greatly different, and have different objectives. One path will lead you to a boss, while the other will lead you to some intense platforming. You'll find yourself hopping from comet to comet, battling scorpionlike aliens and robots, and hopping conveyor belts. - BassDeluxe

The space theme is around a lot in the world of LBP but this one of the few levels that gets it "right". Really immersive and fun. - Chaz'oSulls

Awesome Thanks for the spotlight, it's an honour! I've been struggling with the video editor and then youtube so I couldn't get my video preview out until just a bit earlier, so I've sent a message to CC to have it added, but in the meantime, here it is:

And a shout out to all the reviewers who left awesome comments bellow all the level descriptions. You guys actually took the time to write some well thought out comments and I know everyone appreciates that as much as I do

WOW, I'm honored to be chosen for the spotlight with the first level I've made, it really makes me feel great to know that people are having fun with something I've created and made all the hours of work I put in totally worth it.

I've played a good portion of the levels spotlighted already and I must say I feel privileged to be put on the same list as you guys, there is some really awesome stuff here and I really believe that this site houses some of the best LBP creators out there.

Part Two is coming along nicely, I feel it will be a huge step up from Part One, but I'm starting to fear that I may have to make it a 3 part story if the thermometer keeps going up at its current rate. I hope to have it out in time to be considered for the next spotlight.

Thanks again for putting me up there!
