Icarus Type Alpha

Archive: 23 posts

Hi Dear Friends!
After two months of hard work I am proud to present my first LBP2 level!
My level is not just another platform, but something different and original:
I like to call it "Organic Side scroller Shoteer".

If you play it you will find original creatures and aliens and huge bosses to defeat.
Bonus and Power to pick up,Charge Plasma,Laser,Charge Health,Smart bombs and an original "Paralaxx zone and Normal zone"

I think you'll like.

No one has yet tried my level?
I'd like to know your opinion.
I absolutely do not want to brag, but I think if you do not play it you're missing something special.
Of its kind I do not think there's anything similar so well done.
I await your own opinion.

Brilliant work. You've got to get pictures here, people really need to see how amazing this looks. It plays great, too: fine tuned controls, good hints, quirky voice-over.2011-03-29 01:00:00

I have a really itchy trigger finger. At least half of the times I tried to fire a charged shot, I instantly destroyed it with the normal shot I fired right after.

I don't like that I can only fire X shots at once, and that the old ones disappear half a screen away from me, while if I stop shooting they fly all the way across.

It's also weird (though not bad) that I can fling my shots up and down by moving (since the emitter isn't set to ignore parent velocity).

Other than that it was a really awesome experience which I yay'd and hearted.

A truely awesome level, I had great fun playing it! I didn't get all that far but I find it well balanced and great fun. I also liked the changes between normal and danger zones!
This is staying in my queue because it has alot of replay value. Well done!

Thanks for the compliments!
To create a level of this kind I can assure you that it was not at all easy!
Especially to manage the cameras and the scrolling of the screen.
For the great shot I could match it with another button on the controller
That would not be a big problem.
For small laser gun that moves when you move icarus was something decided by me.
Regarding the laser shot, if fired fast at half screen disappearing,I should remove the option "delete the old shot",but after I should have breaks in shooting and I should increase the number of shots, but I do not know why, perhaps for lags, collisions with the monsters are no longer accurate.
I think I have claimed both the game engine and i think can not do better.
however where possible I will try to fix those things.
For the extravagant voices, cause I'm Italian and my English is not perfect.....eheheheheheh
anyway thanks to everyone for having played and for the compliments.

Sorry for my bad english.

This is a brilliant level. Side scrolling shooters are not usually my kind of thing but this one is just amazing. The visuals are stunning and the gameplay (what little I saw of it - I'm terrible at this type of level!) was varied and interesting enough to keep even a casual player like me hooked. This deserves a lot more attention. 2011-03-29 22:42:00

Great level Pirmaut. It's really well designed and everything works pretty much as well as is possible considering all the bugs in the game in general. To even get something this advanced to work at all is a major accomplishment.

I like how you did the different stages and the various enemies. I must admit I let a lot of them get away but that's just me not being very good! There aren't many levels I actually replay but this one will be one of them. It's great fun and good to look at. An excellent start to your LBP2 portfolio and I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Very cool level. I'm not a big shooter fan but I can compliment you on the hard work you put in for this level.

I had a couple of suggestions.

- It would be nice if the charged shoot didn't stop after hiting one enemy. Maybe it could take out a few enemies before disapearing. You might have it disapear after one hit so that it wont desimate bosses though. It made me not use the charged shot untill the bosses.

-Maybe some custom music would be cool

Heres a couple of my levels if your interested:

Lets face it, shooters are well established, and this level is doin' just about everything right. This plays more like a classic shooter from main menu to kill screen than anything I've seen yet, but I don't know if I've ever seen such a game with an organic theme. Major props for overall execution. This is obviously a very polished and well-nurtured creation.

What I think could really improve the level is an alternate control scheme. I can only tappy tappy tap so much. I think a control scheme like this would be more accessible:

Square (Hold): Charge weapon
X: Fires laser as fast as you can tap
X (Hold): Fires laser rapidly, but not quite as fast is if you put forth the effort to tap

I nearly broke out my arcade stick to take advantage of the turbo function on it, but then I realized that I would have to enable and disable turbo on the joystick to be able to use the charge weapon, and that's just a little too much. I'm actively looking for arcade type levels that play well with a joystick, and Icarus was almost one of them.

Thank you for your feedback.
I appreciate so much the people who give me advice.
This always helps me to improve my works.
Icarus was my first lbp2 level, and at that time I did not know well yet all the new lbp2 tools,In fact I wanted to add many more things that seemed impossible at that time.
But now everything is different especially for my future shooters.
however, taking into account these limitations I had, but now I have passed,I think I'm very satisfied about the final work.
what I think is the strength of icarus is the scrolling of the scenery, because I have not seen in the lbp shooter that I played.
I now would be impossible to make any changes to the level, because I've reached the maximum of the thermometer,
and anyway it's more easier for me to dedicate myself to a new level.
but I finally managed to give a touch of more originality to icarus, with a different custom music for every stage.

Thanks for who has played it and for the precious advice.

(Sorry for my bad english).

I'll definitely be replaying this as well. Side scrolling shooters have never been my favorite, but I just loved this one. The first time I played it, my mouth was hung open the entire time. Amazing work.2011-10-17 14:22:00
