Basic mover on sequencer?

Archive: 9 posts

Trying to create a tutorial for my level and have run in to some trouble... I have made a sequencer with magic mouths to explain the controls and movers to emulate the movement being described. I have stripped down the 'vehicle' of the regular controls used in the game, and put basic movers on the sequencer along with in and out movers that show the other controls, the in and out movers work fine on the sequencer, however the movers just light up with out moving anything. The movers are at full strength and I tried putting batteries on the sequencer and the movers on the actual object but it still won't move it and I can't figure out why.

I tried advanced movers with batteries but that didn't work, I am thinking of maybe using a sequenced sackbot to do the flying? Any thoughts or suggestions would be awesome.

ok first make sure that on ur mover u have correct setting. For some reason it doesnt always move on speedscale.Delete the mover and place a new one that wasnt copied. If there are still problems then on the sequencer put a counter of 1 and the output goes to the mover which is on a microchip which also enables a timer. On the timer set how long u want it to move then hook it up to the reset.2011-03-27 17:11:00

The movers were set to on/off I tried them in pretty much every way I could conceive but nothing worked. it was like they weren't even there. I have it working now but I had to fake it with followers, so the question really is still appropriate. Why won't a basic mover work on a sequencer?2011-03-28 14:03:00

Try setting up a behavior chip with the recorded movement and use that with the Magic Mouth as an input to start it, then switch back to the regular behaviour chip? Not near my PS3 so I can't test it out myself 2011-03-28 15:53:00

Why won't a basic mover work on a sequencer?

They work fine, so the problem is elsewhere. Presumably they can't move the vehicle for some reason, such as:-

They're not actually attached to the vehicle.
The vehicle is 'anchored' with DM/LM.
They're conflicting with another mover/tweaker.
They're attached to a relatively small part of the vehicle which is providing insufficient force to move the whole thing.

It's pretty difficult to determine without knowing a lot more about your exact setup. Posting a picture, or publishing your setup in a copyable level would make diagnosis much easier.

My guess is it's #3 - if you have a controlinator attached to a mover with a Deceleration of 100%, that's effectively preventing the vehicle from moving as long as the mover is activated, so you'll need to deactivate it (e.g. by putting it in a disabled microchip) while the sequencer is running.

Don't forget #5. You have an anti-gravity tweaker set to 100% dampening.

My guess is #3 as well. If multiple movers are attached to an object (or multiple rotators or followers), the mover with the highest strength dominates. If you need to use multiple movers, you have to embed them in microchips which can be disabled.

This decceleration thing is going to make my hair turn gray. I am 99% sure that is what it is.
The first thing i created in LBP2 was a rideable lion for my son and I wanted to make it jump and that thing would never come down, hours and hours of timers and tweaking before i broke down a mecha-pup and saw the settings on its jump logic. Ugg.. That was launch week and i still haven't learned.
I have been using followers lately for a lot of different things and i just used different colored tags where i wanted it to move and followers, set to follow tag, on the sequencer. You can check it out i republished it this morning, Eagle River.
Thank you very much for breaking that down for me despite my limited explanation.

simple movers will hold still when off. For some reason they apply the strength regardless of on/off state. Try setting them to strength scale. That usually works.2011-03-28 22:35:00
