New power-up removal tool needed

Especially now that we have so many new power-ups in LBP2, isn't it about time they scrapped those stupid power-up removal tools with the big red X and gave us something more akin to the global lighting tool which can be hidden from sight and activated by radius!? I mean seriously....whoever was responsible for designing that power-up removal tool should be hung upside down by the testicles for 40 days. Aesthetically, those glowing red Xs really butcher the visual atmosphere of a level, but not using the tool can affect gameplay when players are left to take power-ups to places where they're not meant to be used.2011-03-27 12:31:00

No, it doesn't exist, but would solve this issue with ease.

That would probably make more sense than a brand new tool I guess. However, the other issue with the "big red X" tool is that players can simply jump over it to avoid it's area of effect, so if tweak options were to be added to the existing tool then an activation radius should also be included.

Instead they should give us an invisibility switch so we can make anything invisble, I wouldn't mind paying for it as dlc, it would suit a Harry Potter level pack.2011-03-27 12:40:00

if it was me I'd just emit them over the person or something for 0.1 seconds,
part of the problem is how people use them in the levels, a good level design is one that forces
them in to the remover without any possibility of them bypassing it. But yes, I'd like a logic-button
or something like you said, be more useful indeed~ *mew

Quoted for the truth. The thing really looks horrible. Well, you can always hide them for now? And in narrow tunnels, you can put one on the floor and glue one to the ceiling.

You can use to the hazard tool and change the Powerup Remover, Scuba Gear, & both Jetpacks to gas then you can put them in wall or under maps and they still work like normal.2011-03-27 18:10:00

I like the big ugly Xs!
I'm using it for some rotating visuals/decorations in my level. I feel it comes in handy visually. Easier to place decorations on than incredible's drills.

But yeah, having them being able to activate via switch off screen would be VERY useful.
An option to change the colour of the X would be nice also.

btw, a neat little trick/joke to prevent people jumping over the powerups, is to attach the remover to a piston, and add player sensor above the remover.
When the player tries to jump over it, it activates the piston and pushes up the remover.

Even better, discard power up removal object for now and think of this. Having power up objects look more like a pad projecting a hologram of the spinning power up (basically already looks like this),this pad will have an input which simply turns on/off the hologram

ON: Power-up can be obtained and kept.
OFF: Power-up cannot be obtained and if already obtained, will be removed.

This is just my idea, which is open to the addition of another tool which also removes ALL power ups when with in radius or what ever you can think of

Some ideas for something like that:

Vacuum Hole Thing: When activated, it sucks all power ups the players have in to it

You can do this if you don't mind having the sound of flies on a crap pile pervading the ambience of your level, but try entering the tweak menu of a gassed powerup remover and see how fast your game freezes.
