Underground Hip-Hop Appreciation Thread

Archive: 14 posts

this is a thread I made for two reasons:

1. to show appreciation for artists who make REAL hip-hop and hip-hop beats like Shing02, Uyama Hiroto, Nujabes, and others

2. was wondering if anybody fluent with the music sequencer with some good skills, and knowledge of underground hip-hop wouldn't mind making a few tracks for me for this LBP2 project I'm working on.

anyways so I guess I'll start with something random and then you all can either discuss or hit me up if you want to music sequence some beats for me.

first of all I'd like to say R.I.P. to a fallen brother by the name of Nujabes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nujabes) (real name JUN SEBA) who was killed in a car accident in 2010...one of the very few hip-hop producers with REAL talent that could make the most beautiful hip-hop beats that made ya an instant fan of his work. he did the music for the anime series Samurai Champloo and he has worked with others making awesome music before his passing. Gone but never forgotten.

and now the thread is open for discussion on these other artists and their beautiful beats that almost don't even sound like hip-hop

Whoa.. of Samurai Champloo? wow I loved that show and yeah the music was Amazing, anyway ummm I dont know much about underground hip hop beats, but If Im not wrong, I think they used Hip hop beats for Afro Samurai and also Samurai Jack I think...not sure, dont know anymore else sorry .

In LBP2, So far I know only 2 creator that are hip hop beat lovers, one is Fading Monkey and I think Dohdohbird.
There was another creator that made some hip hop like beats, but I forgot his name, all I can remember was his level was Called "Jukebox"...something forgot the rest, hope that helps.

I think this thread should be more than just hip-hop it should be underground-everything appreciation thread especially underground art. I love those, and why just hip-hop? It should be all forms of underground dancing! like Vogue-ing! 2011-03-28 02:54:00

Great thread I've just started getting into Hip-Hop over the last few weeks. I probably wouldn't have looked in this thread before then.

Just checked out some of Nujabes and Shing02's stuff and really liked what I've heard so far!

I honestly have never really listened to much hip-hop past 99'ish really. It's good to hear there are a few legit artists still making decent hip hop tunes, i'll be sure to check them out sometime.

My favourite hip hop artists are those like Gangstarr, A Tribe Called Quest, Biggie Smalls ect. You know the type, an MC + DJ= Winning formula IMO.

As for making hip hop on the music sequencer, i'll give it a go some time! I've made a few hip hop esq beats, but nothing in full.

@wolverine - tbh I just wanted to keep the thread to single out those artists who I've named...because IMO they are the best ones out there in what they do

same with Nujabes who did the beats for Samurai Champloo...basically he was my favorite...wish he didn't have to leave us...

@T-shirt - lemme know if you can make anything sound similar to Nujabes or the other's I've listed...would be very much appreciated

pretty much the music is for a secret FILM series im making with a friend and i want it to be like samurai champloo where it was mostly influenced by the music...so having similar hip-hop beats like Nujabes is what im shooting for

I'd have to familiarise myself with the songs a lot before I even attempt to have a go, but if I do, I'll be sure to let you know!

Underground hip hop has a bunch of great people, it would be subjective who the best is.
Blockhead, Aesop Rock, Deltron, Atmosphere, (Main Sequence- The Ownership Society) is absolute brilliance (http://www.digstation.com/AlbumDetails.aspx?albumid=ALB000000285) great under-appreciated stuff.
