How to make text stay up? (So the player can read instructions) (Also not notes)

Archive: 8 posts

What im trying to do basically is when the player runs into my sackbot it'll give instructions on how to use the machine i made, But what happens is that the text box doesn't stay up for longer than 10 seconds-

So i'm having a hard time trying to get it so the player can go back and ask for instructions again, But to also have the text show one after the other correctly.

It's been driving me nuts l:

Make a player sensor increment a counter set to 1, and make the counter run the text box, then make a NOT gate, with the input from the player sensor, and the output to reset the counter.2011-03-26 22:26:00

That works for the most part, But all of the chat boxes don't stay up for longer than 10 seconds or so,

And when i tried to go back it only showed up just the only begining chat box,

I've got about 6-7 of them that need to be all cycled through.

I also tried doing a movie camera but i can't figure out how to get text on the bottom of the movie camera, I'd use that if possible actually.

If you mean subtitles with "text on the bottom of the movie camera": for some reason, your magic mouths need to be on a sequencer for that to work. You'll also be able to set an exact duration for the text display on a sequencer.2011-03-26 23:09:00

If you need dialogs to stay up that long and you have multiple of them, are you ppositive your real problem is not the complexity of your machine? And if your machine really is complex, wouldn't a gradual learning curve be more effective than to unload all the instructions at once onto the player? In order to not have people abandon your level at key points like these, you need to answer these questions for yourself.

Instead of a linear manual you could also go after a branched dialog; the NPC gives a list of choices ("R1 for info about basic controls. R2 for how to land.") and then use a controlinator to read out player choices.

I need help with this too.

I want a sackbot with two speech bubbles:

1. how to access the controls menu
2. short explanation of one of the terms in the controls menu that may not be familiar to all players

How do you get speech bubbles to cycle neatly? Like at the beginning of a Mm versus level.

Wire the output of the first one to the input of the second one.2011-03-27 04:42:00
