Overcharged 3D Racer

Archive: 10 posts

As soon as I first seen a level that used the 3d camera, I couldn?t resist seeing what could be done with it despite its excessive depth of field and lack of any turning. This level was mainly created to show that this perspective could work as an official feature if it was fully supported in the future.

Thanks to DJ_DTM there is an amazing and hilarious voice over. It cracks me up every time lol .

Anyone looking for something different and just how well this perspective can work even with the limitations of the camera should give it a try. I hope it inspires others to experiment with the possibilities .

Thanks,
Steve.

Holy freaking crap, I can't even explain how awesome this is. I played it after a friend told me about it when it had like 9 yays, I hearted and yayed, came back on and hour later, and it was already on the cool pages! Oh man, I'm still trying to get over how cool this was. Nice work dude!2011-03-26 02:03:00

Ditto. Incredible. You know... I've played quite a few levels that take advantage of the 3D camera, and I wasn't that excited. But.... put the tool in the hands of a master, and you've got one heck of a ride! This game is so much fun! The graphics are phenominal, the strategies work really well. It FEELS great! And, it's really polished.2011-03-26 04:31:00

Sorry but I still hate this weird camera glitch, it makes things too blurry and indistinct and isn't controllable enough. Maybe if Mm made an official one that worked properly it could be ok but as it stands it's just not very good at all and best avoided.2011-03-26 18:14:00

It wont be turned into an official feature unless it displayed that it something the community wants. Dont just give up on something because its hard to use and requires a little lateral thinking.

The depth of field issue and turning would be easy for the programmer to fix. The main issue is that the game has no LOD and renders everything the same no matter how far away it is. An alteration to the games code would have to be implemented for it to go ahead. The depth of field in this level shows that even currently it is infinity better for seeing where you're going than using a top down view where your range of vision is severely limited resulting in you having to memorise the layout, and limit the speed unless the entire track is displayed on screen at one, but then its hard to make out the vehicles.

I just had a crazy idea that might just work..

Y'know theres two types of 3-D cameas? One where you see it as a 2.5D platformer but in sackboys perspective and the one you used? What if you switches to the one where your in sackboys perspective from the normal 3-D camera you used, to imitate turning? Could that work?

If that wouldn't work, would using the normal 3-D camera you used, but turning the enviroment itself to imitate turning instead?

Really cool level, Steve! It's exactly like the modern racing games.

VISUALS:
Thanks to 3D camera glitch, the third person racing game has been made. The tracks are well made with materials and decorations, and I liked the idea of using the computer port decoration as a monorail.

SOUND:
Great music choices and voice acting.

GAMEPLAY:
The controls are good, and the boost power up is great too. The rank and number of clocks collected are a great addition to know how well you did in a race.

OVERALL:
Awesome job! It reminds me of "Wipeout" and "F-Zero". A yeah vote, a heart, and a positive review.
