STAR WARS: A New Hope: Chapter One: err...Etc! (Special Edition))

Archive: 12 posts

Yeh, so I'm still here and knocking these things out. ; )

An update to the first chapter (which is horrendously dated now even by LBP1 standards) , it's my first LBP2 level and hope you like it if you play it. It was intended to come as two parts but its taken way longer than I thought it would, so the first part is out there to play with while I knuckle down and get on with the second....

Any feedback, bugs, stupid design choices etc would be great to know. It's multiplayer do-able, but generally flows best in single. Cheers guys!

Glad to see you've continued your Star Wars in LBP2. Your attention to detail is exquisitely superb. One of the best by far. Your use of sackbots are unparalleled and perfectly matched for this Star Wars level. I can't wait for your next one. Thanks for making such a superb level. Smiley and hearted2011-03-26 01:37:00

Dang 83 yays without a boo, that might be a record. This looks awesome, top level on the trending list so it'll probably be raking in plays like crazy in few hours.2011-03-26 02:05:00

A lot of other creators should take a hard look at what this guys doing with this level! The platforming fits naturally into the world, it's not just slapped onto it. Amazing stuff.2011-03-26 04:31:00

You know.... I came into my office to shut down the computer for the night... it's late... I'm tired... I popped on to LBPC one more time to see if there's anything new to add to my queue before bed... err... etc...

Popped this level into my queue and ran to the ps3!

This level is superb. The graphics are really beautiful all the way through. Lots of little details, and the character personalities are done well. Lot's of your trademark humor.

Where this level really shines, though, is in the gameplay. It's an absolute BLAST to play! I think my favorite part is having to bounce while cleaning with the creatinator. I hadn't seen that specific gameplay before.

One area to mention. Near the beginning you have the electric garbage on the conveyor. A couple times there were 3 pieces of garbage in a row, which I don't think can be jumped. You may be using a randomizer... not sure. You could probably use a sequencer to emit the garbage instead, so you can control a pattern of junk. I think this will be a specific area that some may have a problem with.

Awesome stuff, though! I'm still waiting to see how you handle the END of the story, though!

Good night....

How anyone could boo this level is beyond me...I didn't know Trekkies played LBP...who knew...

Anyway brilliant level! The visuals, cutscenes, gameplay...all top notch! I am impressed at how you were actually able to make the player feel as if they were a part of the story...not easily done to this degree...

Nothing negative to say...Thanks!

I agree, Luos. I love anything Julesyjules does...my most favorite creator of all time. Anywho, I'm so glad to see this chapter re-done. That means the end is by no means close. I even made it past that dastardly garbage conveyor, and if I can do that then any boy can do that. lol The intro was superb, and I can't help but feel that julesy knows who the Star Wars geeks are around here, and this is our own special treat from him. I'm so so glad this was not his final Star Wars level. Great job, friend. You're awesome!2011-03-26 21:55:00

A great start to your famous level series remade into LBP2. It has been a while, Julesyjules.

VISUALS:
The level has excellent designs of the layer glitch, sackbots like C-3PO, Stormtroopers, and Jawas, and material choices. The cinematic sequences are outstanding, too.

SOUND:
As always, you used "Battle on the Ice" as part of the movie sounding musics. Now with cinematic musics, you added more than that, which makes this level have a movie feeling to it. Great sound effects, too.

GAMEPLAY:
The gameplay is beyond outstanding thanks to creative obstacles and excellent use of the grabinator and creatinator. My favorite part of the level is when the Jawa challenges you to the grabinator game.

OVERALL:
The force is strong with this level. Hope you get a chance to complete the entire series. A yeah vote, a heart, and a positive review.

Doh, I never thought of doing it that way. I've now slowed the emission rate down by differing degrees, but that should have probably been the way to go.

Yeh, the end. : / I was just getting on with it last year, then played LBP2 at the game jam and after that just couldn't work up the enthusiasm to create. Plus, I've always found bosses really tough where the old logic is concerned. I've taken to the new tools though, there wasn't a single idea in this new level I couldn't implement one way or another, so thats a good sign. I WILL end this series tho, lol.

Ha!

If the other SW geeks enjoy this stuff, that all i want! Thanks for the comments C, very kind.

I did think of using the sequencer and getting some proper SW music in there, but where the orchestral stuff evokes it decently enough, I'll use it. I found a real disconnect when I transitioned from the pre-recorded stuff to the sequencer tones, especially if its a more musical rather than ambient piece, you kinda have to use one or the other and stick with it so it doesn't jar. But I'll be experimenting on the next one to see if i can overlay them a bit better, as the original soundtrack is just too amazing to not try and exploit somehow.

You've really outdone yourself with this one. The intro was just beautiful, and the visuals/details throughout were uniformly fantastic. The dialog was funny, the sackbots charming, the platforming a lot of fun, and you even tossed in a great little mini game catching power cells.

The extra layers were used extremely well to capture the Tatooine dunes/sunset scenes...really great stuff. Loved the exterior scenes with the Jawa transport as well. Gameplay-wise my favorite section was definitely the workshop interior, cleaning the oil spills and bouncing around.

I did have a couple minor issues early in the level, the one was the 3 un-jumpable obstacles on the conveyor that has already been mentioned. That wasn't that big a deal for me, the real issue I had was with the 3 platforms on the in/out movers...they just felt really odd. It seemed like you needed to jump way before the platform actually starts to retract or your jump just doesn't register.

Great work...so glad you're still making these.
