Sequencer help

Archive: 4 posts

Hi, I am new to this site and this is my first post so I will try to explain my problem as clearly as I can.

I have a ammo counter system that keeps track of ammo for various weapons and displays the ammo count through a digital display. The individual ammo counters use counters (one for ones and one for 10s) that feed an analogue signal to a main sequencer that produces the display. The system works almost perfect as I am able to switch weapons and not loose the ammo count from the last, however, a problem occurs when I fill up the ammo for a weapon which resets the counters for those weapons.

On my counters a value of 0/10 would equal the digit "9" on the display sequencer and 10/10 would equal 0. The problem is that when the ammo counter is reset and I select the weapon, the sequencer keeps displaying the old numbers until the new numbers have changed (counters are increased). So say I have 22 shots remaining with weapon A, pick up weapon b and switch to it my display that should read "99" (since both counters were just reset) will still show 22, then 28 after one shot then after 9 more shots will display 89 and display correctly after that. The problem might be that the sequencer is not reading the 0% output from the counters even though it will display a 9 correctly when the counters cycle from shots fired. Is it possible to add a signal to the counter output to make it show even 1% instead of "off" or zero? If so how would I do this I tried adding a battery at 1% with an "and" gate but that just passes the lowest or highest value. How can I make it "add" to the signal? or is there something else I could do to make this work?

A 1% battery combined with the signal through an OR gate, perhaps?2011-03-25 20:53:00

Think I got it, looked up how to do basic addition and found I can add a battery at 1% to the signal to get a reading on the sequencer. Had to rewire the outputs so that 0/10 = 0 and 1/10 (or 0 + 1% battery) equals 9 on the display. This also makes it easy for ammo that I want to start at say 40 instead of 100, I simply set the battery output for the 10's counter to 61% and it starts at 40 when full (39 actually). if that makes any sense. This game is amazing but its eating up days and days of my time and I haven't finished a level yet!2011-03-25 22:04:00

Don't worry. I have it for two months now and I still haven't released one.
