New style top-down flight sim

Please try out my new level Eagle River. I have worked hard on this randomly generated flight sim, I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions for new obstacles/point givers. I would also love any help making my transitions work more smoothly as they are a bit wonky right now. Definitely bring your friends try to get to that third tree of prizes at the end. I will continue to try to improve this level but I need your help. Thanks for reading!

Hey, i gave this a go interesting concept, although for the first 5 minutes i didn't really know what i was doing. I seemed to have problems actually picking anything up.
I managed to pick up a few things for about 4 seconds but then after that i was just flying endlessly. Maybe have some sort of How to play section? I think also have the screen slightly more zoomed in to hide the edges of the materials. I liked the fact you could alter your height and good to have the controls on screen just maybe tell me what i need to do!
keep on creating.

Whoa whoa whoa you were flying endlessly?!?! I republished before work but only to add stickers to the scoreboard, but did you even make it there??

There should be a two minute timer on the actual flying. Im stuck at work for 4 more hours. ugg.

Umn...tutorial is needed. No idea what I was doing.
Also moving down should be maped to down in the anolouge stick, not up (and vice versa).
Ending is abit messy.

Sorry the in and out altitude changing was pretty much the first big thing that I wanted to become part of the gameplay. I kind of forgot about explaining it to those who had not been playing around with it for the past few weeks. I will get that in there ASAP.

The 'up is down/down is up' thing is just a flight control thing, BUT as soon as i saw your post i thought up a selector connected to 'x' that will invert that control so the choice is for the individual.

Thanks so much for the help and I will definitely play your levels as well, unique and fresh levels sounds good to me.

Ok added a basic tutorial, with an emphasis on basic, I only had about an hour to work on it this morning before another 8 hours in the bakery. I ran into some difficulty getting the sequencer to make basic movers work so unfortunately the Eagle is stationary at the moment.

The inverting the flight controls also is going to be a bit more complicated than I previously thought. I tried to use a selector for each in and out mover one set for move in one set for move out but the right stick wanted to do both of them I think I need some 'and' gates and I hope to have that worked out this evening.

Tutorial is complete still some room for improvement need to add sounds for it. You now have the ability to choose how you want to control your up/down movement, just push X. Thinking now about adding a skip tutorial option and how that could work in. Also some of the random emitters don't like each other too much so I will try to iron out little things like that soon.2011-03-28 13:38:00

I played this last night, interesting concept. However there seems to be a glitch. After getting hit 3 times I got to a point where my Sackboy ended up on the Lettering???
And then when I got to the prize trees I saw that the game was still collecting points? I just stood there and got over 2000 points for doing nothing. Seems to be a bit buggy. Other than that a refreshing new concept for a change

Thanks for catching that I had a timer on the level that ejects from the DCS and cancels the game camera, but does not destroy the Eagle. It really defeats the point of ending the game. As for the letters i designed the level to spawn there just so there would be a little bit more time to hear the music that I made for the ending.

I have just republished, the continued scoring glitch is fixed, all that i had to do was destroy the background emitter when the timer is up. Also the ending now has a bit more direction and decoration.

Thanks for the feedback, sorry so late to respond. Thanks for noticing the music I worked hard on it and felt like that song needed to be in there somehow.

The difficulty was something i kind of felt limited on the complexity of my area was getting to be too much. Thats the reason i made it a versus level just to add competition to increase the difficulty. I eliminated about 300 corners from my borders and a ton of decorations but even with the current set up i would still get that message in create mode and the would glitch(yellow circle with exclaimation point).

Don't know if its the wiring...it is a little crazy and disorganized i think. Going to post in the help forum but i want to get some pictures of my logic up.

Wow, that was really good!
you managed to carry out the "Up and at em'" gameplay, and that's very impressive on it's own.
The idea was very nice as well.
Only thing you can improve is change the floor color and make the baloons more baloon-like lol, they look like giant lollipops..
Other than that, very well done, keep it up!

Thanks for the kind words. The color on the floor at the flying part maybe could be a little darker maybe it would look more realistic. The balloon is kind of tough, possibly a different material would make it look more rounded and less lollipoppish.2011-04-08 11:38:00

Considering that I was playing by myself, there wasn't really much I could do other than fly around on my own.

But nevertheless, very cool concept, but you may want to up the challenge a bit.
And for esthetic effect you should place some rubber in front of the funnel you fall into where you enter the controlinators.

I had been playing with the cameras to the point I had to redo all of them trying to eliminate that momentary lapse. Thats such an easy fix and will be done ASAP.

In other Eagle River news I am planning a substantial update thanks to this thread. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=54563-Area-too-complex..) I am planning to add more obstacles and other score givers to increase the difficulty and the need to change layers.

HUGE UPDATE!!!!! I simplified the background and have added to the difficulty. Removed time limit, but now you only get one eagle. Now with more obstacles and crows to knock out for big points. Would love any other suggestions for obstacles or score objects.2011-04-11 05:58:00

Great idea. it must have been hard to build all the logics, etc.
it was fun to play, maybe a bit boring but i played with one player though.
one issue maybe you could change the how to play part a bit. it says there three strikes out but i tink you changed to one life.

Wow really creative and original idea. Very unique and compelling. Level looked and sounded great. Liked climbing in the title screen as well.
