Sackurushi Challenge Level Demo

Archive: 8 posts

Well I finally published a level!

Sackurushi Challenge DEMO. This is a demo of a challenge level I have been working on, it was inspired by a game called 'Kurushi', some of you may have heard of it. This is not a clone and was never meant to be so don't expect all the mechanics and gameplay of the original, but if you have played the original you will recognize a certain similarity.

Basically you have to clear a path through waves of oncoming blocks by charging grid squares and then activating them at the right time to dispose of the blocks. Both the charging and activating of grid squares is done with 'R1' by holding and tapping respectively, basically it's all done with timed grabs, I rushed into it without employing the controllinator but possibly future versions will, in in order to widen the scope of gameplay in the form of features much more closely resembling 'kurushi'.

The game features a simple tutorial with the aid of a sackbot (later to be fully interactive). This demo version includes 2 levels of grid difficulty, score bonuses & penalties, it also includes 1 collectable prize of an original music track (this is not easy to get).

I would be most appreciative if some of you found the time to play it, and as stated on the level description I invite you to make comments both good and bad so that I may better develop this level. If people think it's boring or a waster of time then I will swallow my pride and move on. Look, I admit there are levels I consider Infinitely better, sure, I am just glad to get something out there, it certainly isn't the worst level!

I myself will start the ball rolling by stating that I think I have made it a bit too challenging, since no-one has yet got to the end, I hold my hands up, I will ease it up soon BUT I never wanted it to be easy!, surely someone can beat the challenge?

GO ON take the Sackurushi Challenge, only those with the very best skills will become champions!!...(pretty please?)

Hope you like it, I hope it's not too bad for a first publish, and even if it gets lost in the floods of levels at least I learnt a whole bunch of stuff while making it!

It has been suggested that I use infinite checkpoints to give people more of a chance, I will make that, and a couple of other small changes this evening, just remember that this was only meant to be a demo or beta if you will, just to test the waters!

I will always welcome other sack folks comments!

Yeap it has infinite check point, played it not too long ago. I just thought may be increasing the distance between the blocks to two block lengths would make it more playable allowing the player to switch between the grid and line up for the next one. This may make it too easy but since it's a beta may be try it out:

I haven't made it to the end but I'll definitely be going back to try again.

Thanks very much for playing LittleBigDes, yes I think you might have an idea there, I could increase the gaps for the easier levels (and in the Beta), and if need be just re-balance the dificulty with speed tweaks. Anyway I value your comments so thanks again.

Oh....and a small tip for playing the level, I notice that people try to charge a square on the first row when they start, don't bother just wait and charge on the second row - since you can't activate the zone unless you are on the grid anyway. Once you have the rythm of it it's actually pretty easy, run forward/strafe - charge zone (hold 'R1&apos - move back - activate zone (tap 'R1&apos - rinse/repeat. If anyone is good enough to get to the end of the first run with only 11 'zaps' then bonus points are given or not, do the same for the second run and double the bonus is given, BUT on the second run a penalty is given for t many 'zaps'. If your score is over 70,000 at the end expect an original music track as your prize, this is really tough to achieve (at the moment).

Thanks again!

YES!! somebody else made it through to the scoredboard, I'm so pleased. Also I tried increasing the spaces between the blocks but it made it ridiculously easy, even with speed tweeks, I will have to think of something else?2011-03-27 12:59:00
