which LBP to get?

Archive: 12 posts

Hi all,
I have a new PS3 and got the LBP2 demo and my wife just loves it! :-)
So I wanted to get her a copy of it and saw there's LBP1, LBP GOTY and LBP2,
which one should I get?
also - is there any reason to buy LBP1 over LBP GOTY or is the GOTY absolutely has more stuff than LBP1?
can GOTY share and have online experience as LBP 1?
should I get LBP 2?
is the community bigger on which version?

I'm excited to get it, just need to decide which version...
Thanks.

GotY is the same as LBP1 alone, simply has a couple of DLC already included in the disk, tho anything on GotY you can buy from the PSN store.
Also, you're not missing THAT much if you skip 1 and jump right over to LBP2, altho it is reccomended, and may help a bit, it is not needed, and if you had to select between either of them and couldn't ge tthe other one, I'd reccomend LBP2.

Definitely 2. It's way better and more people play it.2011-03-25 08:47:00

Definatly 2, you'll find the creations and the things you can create to be a lot deeper and much more fun.2011-03-25 08:56:00

thanks guys!!!
you made it easy for me :-)
i thought it's gonna be a big fight, with people saying - u must play 1 before 2, and there are more online players for 1... and etc,
but no, u seem confident with 2 so i'm getting 2

or maybe i asked in the wrong forum? you are all biased for 2? :-)

I've had a few friends ask me the same question, and I'll tell you the same thing I tell them. It depends.

If you plan on creating, then I would really suggest skipping straight ahead to LBP2. All the tools from the first game are in this new edition... plus more new ones. The only real drawback is that you or your wife would be missing many of the Create Tutorials that are offered in the first game. That being said, there are many people and tutorials here that are very helpful and will guide you through even the basics of create mode. We're a very helpfull bunch here.

If neither of you are particularly creative or at all interested in making your own levels and just want to have FUN, I'd honestly suggest grabbing the first game... and then move on to LBP2 once you've finished with that. The levels in the first game still play very nicely, and look really great. This new version has a new game engine, so it looks slightly sharper than the original and there are some game elements that are new as well (ie. Grappling Hook, Controllinator, etc.)

My main arguement for grabbing the games in order, is that you may feel slightly disappointed if playing them in reverse... with regards to the slight improvement in the look of the newer game, and the new game elements I mentioned before that aren't in the first game.

If you do decide to go with the first game and your wife isn't particularly picky about that new plastic smell, I'd suggest going to your local game store and buy LBP used. You can usually find the GOTY Edition or the regular game for around $20.00 or so (of course... that's my Canadian dollars).

Be warned though, that buying the GOTY Edition "used" will likely mean that any of the free DLC that came with the game originally won't be availaible to you, as the code would have either been used by the original owner... or possibly even expired by now.

Oh, and where Community created levels are concerned... there are a ton more LBP levels than there are LBP2 levels right now. That's only because this version is only several months old yet. There are many really great LBP community levels, but there are far more poor ones. Unfortunately, this is the case with both games as there really aren't a large concentration of creators who take it as seriously as the hardcore creators do who dedicate the time to learning the tools and become better creators in general. It's just the nature of the beast.

No matter which one you choose... you simply can't go wrong with either of these brilliantly fun games!

Oh... and welcome to the community.

Cheers!

lol i think you meant to ask which version to get first. You will most likely end up with both.

between LBP and GOTY, if you are buying unopened GOTY all the way. it's the same game with $30 of downloadable items included.

Is the original LBP demo still on the PSN store? you could check that out as well, and see which one she likes better.

LBP2 has a much more robust toolset for creating, but it has a slightly steeper learning curve. If you haven't played through LBP1 first, you start out with fewer tools to work with.

Since LBP2 is the newer game, you will find it easier to get matched up with people to get to the objects that need 3-4 people to get to.

if you're going to end up with both of them

then get 1 first for all the LBP1 stuff and then get 2 to transfer your save from 1 so you can have all the LBP1 stuff in 2

tbh you HAVE to get both...whether to create or have fun...cuz with 1 you can also get COSTUMES from 1 to transfer to 2 and such

If you sign up for, or are already a Playstation Plus member, you can download the full retail version on LBP for free!

You will only be able to play it as long as long as you are still a subscriber of PS+, but if you manage to get all items in the first game, and import your profile to the second, then this probably won't be that big of an issue

In any case - Welcome to the wonderful world of LBP ^^

Is that an EU only thing? I just looked and it is not free on the NA store for Plus members (or anyone else). The only thing we have is the prehistoric moves game free to Plus members.

Oh... It might very well be

Judging from the time zone of the OP, he is European too though, so it probably still applies in this case.

2 is best because you unlock all things necessary for creating, not just new things. 2011-03-25 16:14:00
