Create: 101 those simple things often left unsaid.

Archive: 6 posts

Hey guys your friendly neighbourhood Ghostdog here.

Well i consider myself a mere noob when it comes to the create mode of LBP2 and when it comes to logic im no Steven Hawkins .
However there are many little tidbits of very helpfull info that i feel very often go left unsaid and/or assumed as a given that many creators dont discover untill much further into there "career".
So i ntend to update this thread with some of those "Create 101" lessons with the intention of helping out fellow creators.

Without further adue here is my first pointer.

THE CORNER EDDITING TOOL.

I cannot emphasize enough just how important this tool is. Especialy in regards to your Thermomoter.
My #1 suggestion would be th
at as you build and populate your level with Textures and objects...
1: select corner editing tool.

2:select object

3: at a medium pace run around the edges of the given object looking for corner points.

4: DELETE. yes thats right folks DELETE. I have noticed this create tool has a tendency to populate your objects and textures with what i call "Phantom corners"
These are unnessesary corner points that need not be there. The result of this can mean that throughout your entire level therew may actualy in some cases (depending on the tidyness of the creator) many many many........many unnessesary corners. All of which are soaking up precious space on your thermomoter. So thres only one thing to do, get rid of them

5: Heres my last pointer on this.Make some tough decisions. By this i mean look at your object and ask yourself "is deleting this corner REALY detremental to my aesthetic?" if not then again i say DELETE.

Well thats it folks. I do realise this is not exactly ground breaking logic, however i feel it is none the less important to good, efficiant creating.Following these Five simple steps as you build will most deffinatly save you on a LOT of thermomoter space.
Well thanks for reading and i hope you find this usefull in some manner. I will endevour to keep this thread updated with more usefull tidbits of inmfomation as i myself lean to create along with you, the LBP community.

Happy gaming , happy creating. Ghostdog

I have noticed that even after cleaning up an object, you may want to revisit copies of it, especially if you resize up. Blowing up an object sometimes creates extra corners. You can see this very clearly if you take a perfect circle (which has no corners for the CET to find) and blow it up a little. Now there are many corners (although it won't be very circly looking if you clobber too many of them.)

Strange. I can see corners just fine on circles, and I don't think that resizing an object ever gives you more corners - it may appear that way if they're too close together to notice, but if you select a corner, you can cycle through them with R1 and L1 to count them.

A perfect circle is kind of a special case - it has 20 corners from a rendering POV, but zero from a physics POV. You can delete up to 2 consecutive corners, and it still retains circle physics.

Way to prove the guys point for him

Has anyone else noticed when using the Sticker Cutting tool, that they've done a horrible job on the default corner positions?
Any sticker that I use the cut out tool with I invariably have to go over it with the corner edit tool anyway - kind of negating the need for a sticker cutter tool.
They could have done a much neater job on that.

i have actualy noticed that myself, personnaly i think the sticker cutter is redundent and quite frankly sloppy. To Be honest nothing beats Square blocks and the corner editor coupled with Grid use to make sure all ya levels stay true (by levels i dont mean "stages" i men like a builders level ) You also can achieve smoother cornering with the corner editor than you ever will with the sticker cutter, and with fewer corners at that!2011-03-29 07:20:00
