scorched land?

Archive: 9 posts

Okay guys, this is not really that big a problem. In fact I think it'll help the look of my level personally. Also this could be a stupid question as i'm starting to think so myself now as I type lol. but hey I havn't published a level yet.

Anyway...Basically I have a dropping bomb area in the level i'm creating. The area is surrounded by stone. I tested the area in create mode, got hit by a couple of bombs, and the explosion coloured the parts closest to the impact like a blacky/greeny colour. I continued creating and saved. The scorch marks are still there both in create/play mode.

Now my question, will the markings appear when the level goes live & people play the level?

Yes. Just go over the scorch marks again in the same material you used.2008-11-29 02:38:00

Ouch, big problem here unless I misread. Yes they will appear like that, what you should of done when you tested it is, well actually rule number one.

NEVER test out a section/level in create mode, always switch to play mode, what I think you might of done was tried it out in create mode and saw that it worked and just kept moving on, you forgot to rewind so that everything was back to normal state. Am I correct or did I totally misunderstand the question?

Easy fix, just go over then with the same material, but remember rule number one Hope this helps!

:o that's exactly it.

First thing I tried was to go over it with same material, and it remained unchanged. Although I used the same dimessions. Maybe if I add a lil bit to the height? It has quite a few items around/on it & I was scared of messing something else up.

Anyway thanks for info (you too jake), now I know. Like I said though i'm not too bothered, maybe it could be a bit of a hint as to the upcoming danger as it's at the start of the bombing zone

It's the dark brown stone btw so atleast it isn't one of the white ones, now that would look bad!

There's another fix too that I found out recently. The scorch marks are actually nothing more than stickers, meaning you can use the sticker editing tool to remove them all.2008-11-29 02:47:00

thanks guys . It's a mountain level btw. I actually didn't make a huge mountain shape & cut into it, no no lol. It's made of/held togeather by a huge frame work and will add thin layer to front/back where necessary when finished, it helps my see what's going on better with the bright blue background. It's a complete pain to keep it all balanced! It has something like 30 linked support pillars & counting 2008-11-29 03:03:00

Although it's a pain to redraw everything after something complex and large has been built, perhaps you could consider grid mode in the future to put together pieces of an oversized object. It stops you hitting the "object too complex" bug and allows things to seamlessly join together with no gaps at all.

Another advantage to grid is that you can pull it apart in create mode with some dark matter attached to all the parts (a small thin layer at the back or a block hiding away somewhere). This allows you to use them like a big jigsaw and mroe extensively modify each component as you need to.

You might be using grid mode already though, I'm not sure. It's a bit of a pain to learn and there is no tutorial on it, but it really helps with level design once you are use to it.

Thanks Elbee, I like the sound of the big jigsaw idea, it will help a lot as I progress. I have only entered the 'grid' mode to have a look, but have never used it at all for actually creating. I'll look into it 2008-11-29 04:19:00
