objects distorting

Archive: 7 posts

Hello again, all. I'm building a compact heads up display to show ammo and health in a top down environment. I thought construction was finished until I noticed the digital counter got distorted after I shrunk it down. It works fantastically and is much more clear than overlapping ten stickers (it tends to get a bit blurry and hard to read with a zoomed out camera). Anyone else run into a similar problem with digital counters or just objects getting distorted after putting work into fine details? -_-

Yes and it is frustrating to no end. I find the only real solution is to build at actual size. Its a shame that your character is so small but the actual pixel size on a shape is pretty limited. Where this ***** me off the most is when you put a sticker on something and you trim down all the corners then when you zoom out the sticker has shifted and you have to start all over again.2011-03-23 23:22:00

At least I'm not the onle one who's run into the issue. I built my counter to look pretty close to the same as the stickers and my ammo counter turns on individual bars in the display. Granted, it didn't take long but its so frustrating to come up with a nice idea (more like the girlfriend in this case) for a nice, clean hud for the players to compliment the gameplay. I could use a regular old counter, but I've already got all the ammo finished including picking up weapon packs and all that. Using a typical counter would mean I'd have to strip all that down. Sigh... maybe if I cut out my own numbers instead of using a digital display. Digital doesn't really fit the theme anyway... >.>2011-03-23 23:50:00

Try changing the materials you've used if possible. Some materials distort more than others. Rubber will distort at a much larger size than cardboard for example.2011-03-24 16:11:00

Since they are doing a HUD, they are pretty much stuck with using Holo. Holo will only go so small before distorting or not lighting up it's actual shape. You might try tweaking it to make it a bit bigger.. Sometimes corner editing to make some of the shapes wider or taller, like on your numbers might help. I had some characters that ended up looking similar and was able to mess with it a bit and finally looked more like I wanted.

Good luck!

This leads me to another question. For a versus level is it possible to bind holo displays to only one camera so the player can only see their own hud?2011-03-25 01:40:00

Yeah, you're entering the realms of the rendering issue in LBP which facilitates the invisible material glitch, but there's a workaround. Read this post (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=50759-Tiny-visible-digital-numbers-in-create-mode&p=789823&viewfull=1#post789823) for details.
