Neon Fun Zone Remixed

Hey everyone! I know this post is limited but I intend for it to be a work in progress just as is my Neon level set. I don't have any proper pics to post and I don't have many plays but the point is to continue the development of the level set as well a this post. I don't ever have a lot of time and it is difficult for me to put a ton of create time in so I am going to go ahead and post these levels and use your feedback in the continued development.

Neon Fun Zone REMIXED is simply a remix of the LBP1 levels that I created for those players who like a little challenge. They weren't considered expert levels but were not very easy either. The original set did pretty well for a noob creator and I wanted to add some LBP2 magic to make them better.

Instead of recreating the whole set, I simply tweaked the easiest of the three and renamed it. I would like this level to be all that it can be and will surely be using the feedback that I receive to do just that.

The most important addition to this level is the inclusion of a level link at the beginning of the level and the key for this new level at the end. In order to play this new BETA version of my first VS level, you must complete the main level itself. Upon completion, you will be sent directly to the VS level.

The VS level is called Neon Battle Blast and is a 2-4 player, soccer/air hockey/shooter type game and is in its most crude form. There is no music, only the first of the three option in the main menu are available, very limited on sound effects and visual effects and the score system is still very basic since I am having trouble perfecting it. My main focus is on this VS level because I think it has the greatest potential but I didn't want to publish a beta version and get a ton of sad faces and negative, pointless comments. I am posting it with this F4F level because I feel that if you are going to use this F4F feature then you will not just be dissing it without critique.

So please help me make this level as outstanding as I know it will eventually be.

UPDATE: I have tweaked some of the later sections to balance the difficulty a bit. I hope everyone can appreciate the changes. More changes coming but I need more feedback. PLEASE GIVE SOME REAL FEEDBACK PEOPLE. As you can see, I tailor the level to suite the requests of LBPC so please give more feedback.

UPDATE: I added a couple more checkpoints at a couple of the more frustrating sections.

hey tru3,
just got a chance to play your level.
I really like the look and feel of your level, it really stands out. and it really effects how i play the level too, I'm always double checking everything to make sure things are what i think they are, like good work with hiding the power up remover and whatnot. If you're looking for more to add to your level, it should definitely be more stuff obscuring expectations.
I did find though that your level seemed to get easier rather than harder, if you can I'd consider tweaking the balance of the difficulty. It seemed to me that the beginning was dense and full of danger, (hidden spikes and all that), but as you progress the areas got bigger and less threatening, like the up down electric glass was easy in comparison to your electric walls earlier where it was hard to tell which path was open. and the room with the big triangle fire wasn't really threatening at all.
anyways i did think it was a fun level, i didn't have anybody around to try your VS level, but the controls felt pretty inhibiting, try speeding up the acceleration a bit.

Tried it, got stuck on the intro cinematic Maybe if you hook a movie camera up to an entrance gate closer to the ground. Anyways, managed to get out and the rest was pretty smooth I like it, good job overall but the entry was a hassle.

Okay, because my computer is a piece o' crap, and firefox decide to screw not once but three times, I have to retype this out too many times to be happy with the result. That being said:

I have taken all feedback into consideration and will begin tweaking the rest of level to balance the difficulty. I truly love that fact that there are those who appreciate the way I have tried to conceal obstacles and I can assure you that I will be updating this level to suite your suggestions. All that being said:

@Fei0x: I posted my feedback on you level because your sig only points to you .me page and not a F4F thread.

@Flamento: I don't quite know what you mean about you comment. I incorporated a teleporter that spawns you in front of the gate. You may be playing the original LBP1 version so make sure that you are playing the newest LBP2 version apply titled REMIXED. Also, I posted on your level because yours also just points to your .me page. I would however like to say that I am an avid Guide fan and there were many glaring misinterpretations of the story and any true fan would be displeased with your rendition of one of the greatest literary works of all time. The most important was the puzzle section with question: "What is the meaning of life?" a true fan would've made sure to phrase the question as such: "What is the answer to the ultimate question of life the universe and everything?" On top of that, the beginning was weak. I had no idea that I was supposed to be in the Vogon Constructor Ship until I was ejected into space. That's just a couple of issues I have with your level but certainly not all.

@Sabre_: I posted feedback on your F4F page. Nice job.

Let's keep the feedback coming so that these two levels can be all they can be and more. And keep coming back as I edit these levels because I truly feel that I will be able to complete them based on the feedback y'all post.

I appreciate the feedback, yeah, I said it was "loosely" based on the book because I dont have my copy. I'll revamp it though and if you want you could test the upcoming ones.
Edit: Tried the level again and turns out I was in the right level, but because I had moved the second I spawned, I got stuck. It was probably a freak occurrence. Nothing wrong with it now.

@Flamento: I am glad you were not offended by my criticism. If this is something that you plan on working with until you get it right then I will be happy to keep testing it and giving feedback. If you want any one on one help with it, I wouldn't mind that either. I know some of the things that are missing are obviously missing because you either didn't have the reference or didn't have the time. I was going to make a Guide based level myself but I decided against it so I would probably be down to join you sometime and help out with it.2011-03-25 13:36:00

This is not a shameless bump.. I just want to let everyone know that I have made some adjustments to the main level(Fun Zone) to balance out the difficulty. I have received praise on the difficulty at the beginning of the level and therefore have edited some of the later sections to match. SO check it out again and see if it is to your liking, also I still need some ideas for a better title or possibly even a sub-title or something, I'm just not sure if the title matches the level. Maybe it does and I am being too over critical. IDK but that is what F4F is for right?

As for the linked VS level, I have not had a chance to get to it lately but this weekend will be tweaking the controls a bit and editing the arena itself. Still need assistance with the score logic and boost/bump feature for the vehicles. I am also planning to add some targets that pop up in random places to give the players new ways to earn more points. Keep the feedback coming people!

EDIT: I just noticed that a player named cobrafang recently played this and commented that the later sections need more check points. I will get to work on that this weekend also since I kind of agree with that one. Some parts knock you back a little too far if you don't make it past the obstacle.

Okay, I just added more checkpoints due to the requests for them. The level should be a lot less frustrating. Also I want to add that if you play my level and give feedback on the level(especially if you have a different PSN ID) and not in this thread then I most likely will not know that you are waiting for return feedback. Played your level yesterday,

Great Color desing first of all, was pretty tough but good. Good use of neon and that was crazy how you decorated the spining X's looked crazy.
Great use of the outline material, the 3D background was a cool.

Great stickering, your really good at that!
I wasnt able to complete the level got stuck in one part that was pretty tough, but I did enjoy it so I gave it a heart and a yay.

Great job, ill play the whole thing soon

likewise i could not complete the level, i got too frustrated with the rotating spike platforms. for me, the level needs some patience to play, and u certainly wont be acing it anytime soon. the object collection is good and i like some of the background / foreground items. "The Neon Imaginarium" or something would sound better than fun zone.

Thanks for the feedback woodap2! That is a good title idea, I will be focusing on that for a bit and hopefully something will come to mind soon. That is exactly the kind of feedback I am looking for. Oh and a tip for the spiked platforms... if you time it right you can use the platform to launch you past the rest of them, makes it much easier. I may change them later on so they are not so cumbersome. It really is a much easier ace than one may think, you just have to find the little helpful tidbits that I have purpously tried to create. anyway, thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback!2011-04-02 00:56:00
