Story Mode battle: LBP vs LBP2

Archive: 21 posts

In all honesty, LBP2's story mode wasnt as good as LBP2 imo. The thing is, when i played LBP for the first time, i was so amazed by what MM created, and it was very tough trying to figure out how they made such complex boss fights--it was very intriguing.

I didn't get the same feel from LBP2 and its not to say some things weren't impressive, it just didnt do anything really innovative with the game like LBP did; It seems like they just wanted to show off the new features. The characters were forgettable, Eve was strangely hot, and the entire time it kept thinking this games story mode is fun but not as inventive as LBP.

What do you guys think?

I'll agree with you in that the story was less of a game-changer to the platforming genre and was more about showing off the new features then in 1, but at the same time it also had advantages over the first game as well.
For one thing, while it still wasn't stellar the basic plot was superior and had a greater cinematic quality then LBP1, though they still sort of dropped the ball near the end. The difficultly was toned down, which could be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective. They didn't have anything remotely as annoying as Boom Town or the Bunker, but at the same time I don't remember having a true game over until the final fight (which was also much more epic) and acing all the levels is still challenging overall.
And while it isn't as hard to determine how the creators pulled off what they did, at the same time the new features which makes it so also shows that the methods to get a complex result have been streamlined and more accessible to the player base as a whole. And they were able to pull off some stuff that simply wouldn't be reasonably doable in the first game, or at least wouldn't have played as well.

I like this one because I'm finding create mode much easier to use. And though I adore story mode, it wasn't really Mm's goal to make levels for us -- it was for us to make things. That's what the Story levels are for, in both games -- to showcase a few possibilities that we could make. We are the ones supposed to be making amazing things, using what they gave us. And people have.

(But if they ever truly cheap out on us, this is no excuse.)

I prefer LBP2 because each level introduces a new idea and gameplay style. In LBP1, a lot of the levels were just "Get from A to B via C", but now there are things like the Cakeinator and RoboBun and what have you, each level is exciting. That and LBP2 has Clive, who is just cool.2011-03-27 11:13:00

^ YES! Clive could have single handedly saved us from negativitron, but thats why nega hit him first! he was weakened throughout the game because of that! LBP central should do a collab of you controlling a GIANT clive and going through every story mission with the ability to fly, shoot lasers, and spawn the positivitron sackbots!2011-03-27 17:58:00

Lbp1's story mode had much better and challenging platforming. Lbp2 focused more on the other genres and the levels that were platformers almost always had some kind of powerup to use.2011-04-01 01:06:00

I preferred the LBP2 story mode. Each level felt distinct and felt like they had purpose, while in LBP1 to me the story was just about doing random tasks with a villain thrown in with more focus at the last minute which completely ruined the whole experience with that terrible ending LBP1 has. The Collector is ignored through most of the game except for background parts, then for the hype they manage to build from him kidnapping everyone he just gives up and says he just wanted friends. It's almost as bad as those "I woke up and it was all a dream" endings.

I also find the LBP2 story mode has more replay value because of how the levels are all unique and distinct with their gameplay and themes and not just the same platforming style LBP1 had for most levels.

Most people that prefered the Story mode of LittleBigPlanet 1 are people who are very good at creating and playing levels. We all know how the logic works and so, we can know how to make something like the boss easier then you could when you just got the game.

You see? Everyone has seen a game like LittleBigPlanet for the first time with LBP1 and you didn't knew anything about it. Since we all got LBP1 and we are experienced players, we know exatcly what to do in LBP2.
I think it's very hard to beat the Story Mode of LittleBigPlanet 2 if you've never played LittleBigPlanet 1 before. Because you've never experienced a platformer like it.

They both have pros and cons, but I still prefer the LBP2 Story Mode.
I don't really know why, but I just love the way you go through it. Surely that LBP1's Story Mode overwhelmed me with great feelings, but the story of LBP2 is other and shows of more genres. Davinci's Hideout is an old platforming world, but with an LBP2 touch. Victoria's Lab had some great platforming too, with the Tillonator.
Avalonia shows of many diffirent genres. From Shooting camels to Flying bees and devastating rabbits.

LittleBigPlanet 1 had more of the same platforming. Everytime in another theme, but actually the same came back everytime. And that was jumping, running and riding your way to the finish. LittleBigPlanet 2 hasn't that same feeling. There are a lot of diffirent genres and that's why I prefer the Story Mode of LittleBigPlanet 2.

I love the levels in LBP2 i mean things like Steam puck levels, forest levels ETC
was awesome to play and were some of my most fave tapes of levels. LBP1's story mode
was crazy boring, i enjoyed other people's levels on the first game's story mode it self
had like only maybe 5 fun levels at all. while i enjoyed about 95% of LBP2's story-mode levels.
and the first game had no real story that's worth talking about even a artistic way.
LBP2's story was not a one of a kind story or anything but it still was cute even if with some plot holes.
and the Sackbots just made everything feel real and alive, while the first game only had cutout people.
and not very well made ones. i seen far nicer cutout people by non MM.
and every world in LBP2 story-mode had a epic boss battle at the end that made you wonder
just how in the world did they make that?!! and the levels had real gameplay this time.
not just Run, jump, Run, jump some more. Run more, jump again. Yoohoohoho~
so yeah LBP2-story-mode = 9/10 LBP1-story-mode = 7/10

You know what? I honestly preferred LBP’s story mode, despite its simplicity, for a variety of reasons. One may argue that the story is lacklustre in comparison, but for what the game was, it worked. It also supported the (as in my perceived) setting of the game, that being an innocent diorama. LBP2’s story was relatively boring and was ridden with plot-holes, albeit with some occasionally entertaining (if not corny) dialogue. LBP2 had much more thought put into the story, but it still was mediocre. Although LBP had plot-holes (if it had a plot at all), they, and the plot proper, still supported the innocent atmosphere.

The art style is another reason I preferred the predecessor. LBP2 is much more detailed and decorated, but at the expense of charm and the atmosphere which made the first game great. The hand-made style isn’t as well defined in the second game, and in my opinion it’s what made the first game’s levels so unique. Simplicity supported the game’s inherent atmosphere, whereas in LBP2 the styles seem overdone. LBP also seemed more focused, with more motifs evident throughout the entire story mode.

The actual gameplay is on par between the two games for me. The former had a better defined difficulty curve, unlike LBP2 where the difficulty was perpetually ‘accommodating’. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it does alienate ‘veteran’ players to some extent. Other than the difficulty, the actual platforming and gameplay was balanced between the two games, even though LBP2 focused more on combining power-ups and platforming while LBP focused on pure platforming.

Really, the reason I prefer the first game is because of its distinct charm, which was unfortunately lost to some [read: a rather large] extent in the second game. LBP2’s story mode is still great, but MM seem to have thrown the apple too far from the proverbial tree, focusing too much on cramming as much new stuff in as possible rather than the atmosphere.

I now realize how biased this is, but what the hell.

i rather play littlebigplanet 1, it's simple and fun to play with friend's andor family.
When you look at littlebigplanet 2: it's way too complicated and the gameplay is annoying because of the gamecameras and character's.
my opinion LBP1 is better.

I really did not like LBP1's story mode at all. It was boring and i only really played it to get items. LBP2 story mode was much more exiting and fun. I dont feel like explaining why because im too lazy right now but yeah.2011-04-06 21:41:00

The point of both story modes: Inspiration and prizes.

well, the lbp1 story mode i didn't really like, ya it was easyer, but it wasn't really good of a "story" lbp2 story mode was beter, but not perfect. i would have rather seen avalon as the villian, so then i could say i was a fangirl of a villian, not an arogent(<spell fail) jerk who thinks he's beter than everyone else, but alas i have to xD. personally im more into playing the movie bits & the story more than the inovativitiyness of the levels... you could say in both directions, game play & story, lbp1 was a lil flat, but lbp2 is more 3 dimensional. 2011-04-23 17:19:00

The LBP1 story was longer but the LBP2 story mode was more cinematic and fun. And the main reason I play it is to get all of the objects for my levels.2011-04-23 17:29:00

This may cause a divide, but I seriously don't think that LBP2s storyline was as fun as LBP1s. The new storymode was like a tech demo of LBP2s create mode.2011-04-23 17:58:00

They did do some tech-demo-type levels in LBP1, too. Explosives in The Canyons, emitters in The Temples. Granted, it wasn't this extreme, but still.2011-04-23 18:32:00

NOW.

Or perhaps a brawl between massive clive and The Negativitron, while sack and the curators run around like headless chickens?
