Dino vs. Dragon (An 8-Bit Pixel Platformer) (1P)

Archive: 14 posts

Hello LBPcentral!
I finally finished an 8-bit level that I have been working on for quite some time. In it you play as a dragon, with the skill to do walljumps. The level also features a boss in the form of an evil pixelated dragon and custom music.
I would be glad if some of you could try it out. Will give F4F

Thanks!

I highly suggest you to edit your post and add the LBP.me link of your level, in this way people will be able to find it easily and queue it to play it later .2011-03-21 16:03:00

Sounds great, I've queued it up.

Fancy taking a look at mine as well? Link (http://lbp.me/v/y51gpf)

I really liked it (yay'd + hearted) though I have a few things you might want to try and improve on.

1) Checkpoints would be nice, they're pretty easy to do as well. Tutorials can be found on youtube if you don't know how to do it.

2) The wall jump ability can just be used to shimmy up walls without actually jumping off them, effectively meaning you can slide up any wall you come across without bothering to do some obstacles/ jump from wall to wall.

I think the reason this hasn't been met with too much success is because the whole 8-bit thing has just been done one too many times to be honest ):

I played it yesterday and it was quite nice: i liked the 8-bit look and the fun gameplay with the wall moves. There were a couple of things that bothered me though: first off you only give one life to the players and it's a bit of a disappointment especially if you die at the end. I believe that having multiple lifes would improve the level a lot. I also believe that the black background hurts the overall look of the level a bit so it would be better if you could add more colors and 8-bit decorations. Overall you did a very nice job and i will try the level again to defeat that dragon .

Please return feedback to my latest level : The Red Baron strikes back http://lbp.me/v/yw22sw in the related F4F thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=52800-The-Red-Baron-strikes-back).
Thanks.

Thanks for having a look at the level. I will try out your levels later tonight.
I agree with you Vergil, it kind of needs a checkpoint system, and I will start figuring out how it would work. As for the black background, I wanted it to look a bit Atari-ish. Thanks for the feedback!

Multiple lives or a checkpoint system are a must, I think. (You can check out this, Modular Sackbot Checkpoint System (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=48821-Completely-modular-sackbot-checkpoint-system), that's gotten some good reviews, for ideas on how to make Dino checkpoints.) I liked the look, personally, but yo, retro-Atari is what it is. The fireballs were perfect... If it needs anything, it's more platforming.2011-03-22 16:23:00

I just queued the level and hope to give feedback on it by later tonight. By the way, do you also think you could give feedback on a level me and my crew have been working on? http://lbp.me/v/y4n7x0

That was a fun level.

VISUALS:
The 8-bit look of this level looked amazing. Nice use of hologram and neon materials.

SOUND:
The level has a nice 8-bit sound and music.

GAMEPLAY:
The gameplay of this level feels like an old-school platformer. I think instead of only one life left, you should consider have this game have about three or five lives.

OVERALL:
A fun platformer. A yeah vote.
