Easiest way to aim and shoot with right arm?
Archive: 13 posts
Ok so my sackbots right arm is controlled with the right stick as in comphermc's tutorial. How do I use this input to aim in the direction that I am pressing on the stick? Then when I press the L1 button I shoot a projectile, if I can get the aiming mechanic down I think I can get the shooting. | 2011-03-20 22:32:00 Author: Gutz ![]() Posts: 175 |
Maybe a piece of invisible holo bolted to the sackbot with an emmiter and a joystick rotator in it? | 2011-03-20 22:35:00 Author: gdn001 ![]() Posts: 5891 |
So far I have made a circle holo, I will eventually attach the same follower that my dcs has on it. But for testing I just want it to hover. I attach the joystick rotator on it and I can place an emitter on later. ATM when I plug the or gate into the rotator it spins but doesn't point, when I plug it straight into the the up/down of the right stick it spins 180 from left to right but still doesn't point point where my stick is pointing. | 2011-03-20 22:45:00 Author: Gutz ![]() Posts: 175 |
Do you have the up/down output of the analogue stick plugged into the TOP of the rotator? Plugging it into the bottom is a common mistake. The bottom input allows you to completely switch it on or off. | 2011-03-20 22:53:00 Author: rtm223 ![]() Posts: 6497 |
its in rotator input: left/right speed | 2011-03-20 22:59:00 Author: Gutz ![]() Posts: 175 |
Hang on... You need to wire both outputs of the analogue stick into the rotator, left/right into the side and up/down into the top. | 2011-03-20 23:03:00 Author: rtm223 ![]() Posts: 6497 |

The top input is hard to see, so I always forget to attach it. I then spend a few minutes picking apart my logic, remaking it, and then realizing. | 2011-03-20 23:15:00 Author: SSTAGG1 ![]() Posts: 1136 |
I didn't know the up down existed Doh! Ok so thats done and works but sometimes it will keep rotating once I let go of the stick, how do I tell it to only rotate when I press the stick? Never mind I'll just deal with it spinning it shoots fine. Thanx Guys! | 2011-03-20 23:22:00 Author: Gutz ![]() Posts: 175 |
You can just add a case where if no analog input, activate a rotator set to 0 rotation but 100% strength. Set this up by putting the analog stick outputs into an OR gate, then put this into a sequencer set to postional, but a battery covering entire length and put this to a NOT gate. Put NOT to the rotator, and put the battery directly to the on/off of the joystick rotator. I think this should work. | 2011-03-20 23:48:00 Author: SSTAGG1 ![]() Posts: 1136 |
I used this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dOm3FOUZC0 it helped me alot. But instead of using neon to make the arrow, I used holo material so that it doesn't get stuck. I also wired the shown OR GATE into said holo so that it would only light up when I use the arm. Edit: never mind, I saw this tutorial again and he does use holo after all ![]() | 2011-03-21 00:05:00 Author: SnipySev ![]() Posts: 2452 |
Thanx guys, know how I can get it to only throw 5 before there is a mandatory 2 sec pause, or if I throw one then don't throw another one in 2 seconds it resets the count? | 2011-03-21 02:51:00 Author: Gutz ![]() Posts: 175 |
Connect your button to counter and set its max to 5. Connect the output of counter to timers reset input and set the timers max and current time to 2s. Plug timer to one input of AND gate and your button to other one. Create OR gate and connect timer output to its input and connect OR gates output to counters reset. Now connect your button to new microchips activation input and place not gate wired up to itself inside that microchip. Wire NOT gate to reset of another timer with only the max value set to 2s and connect that timer to OR gate leading to the reset of counter. Connect the AND gate to whatever you are using to trow things. This system activates only once you press the button. | 2011-03-21 06:50:00 Author: waD_Delma ![]() Posts: 282 |

I think you could also just stick a gravity tweaker on the holo and set it's dampening to greater than 80%? | 2011-03-21 18:54:00 Author: Boscoe ![]() Posts: 51 |
