Skid Marks - My Dirty Laundry Edition

I recently published a racer that included a Track Editor as it's USP. It's done OK and received a modest amount of plays, and I'm pleased that a good percentage of those have gone on to Heart it. It's Showcase thread is HERE (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=52881-Skid-Marks-Race-amp-Track-Editor!-(1Player-With-5-CPU-cars)), and it's LBP.me page is HERE (http://lbp.me/v/ytp9pj).

Anyway, a surprising amount of people have mentioned they were impressed by the track editor, so I've decided to air my dirty laundry in public, make the level available for dissection.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

A complete Track editor
CPU controlled opponents - designed to navigate changing player-created tracks
Track parts with the relevant modifications for AI cars
Custom scoring system - works similar to the LBP race countdown, except this takes into account the length of player created tracks and adjusts the starting score accordingly
LED Displays (although thinking about it I think they're 'Dumb' ones as opposed to the standard electronic '1,2,4,8' ones - don't worry if that makes no sense)
A level design that only spawns what it needs, and destroys what is no longer used
An optional player 'Help' system
Probably a few other things I've forgotten

The level is provided very much "as is" although I've made a start on adding notes to some of the more intricate systems. Obviously the central part of the level is the Track Editor...

...which probably isn't as complicated as it looks if you take the time to follow it through. Look at one block first rather than the whole thing is my advice - it's not difficult after that.

One final word of warning - all the tech in the level started off being designed for other uses, and was adapted to go into Skid Marks. And the level itself was really just a test run for a few things and I never anticipated publishing it. Consequently there's some messy work in there, even a few redundant systems that I didn't get round to removing. This is very much provided warts and all. I'm happy to try and answer any questions you may have.

Hope someone finds this of use

You have to play through the original level first to get the key (as linked at the start of this post) - sorry about that, but I figure the underlying systems will make more sense if people are forced to play with them before tearing them apart - and you'll receive a key for the Dirty Laundry Edition at the end - you should then be able to copy it from my planet.

This is probably hugely vain of me to ask, but I was curious if anyone had downloaded it and - more relevantly - if it made any kind of sense to anyone?2011-03-22 09:23:00
