Score Givers...

Archive: 11 posts

I am making an air hockey level and I have got everything working apart from the score givers.
My aim is for a player to recive 100 points if they score a goal however, what is happening for me is player2 recives points at every goal whilst player 1 recives none.
I am using impact sensors and the ps button on the controlinator connected to an AND switch connected to a score giver.
Any suggestions?

First I would make sure that the score givers are set to "just you" then I'd see whether it was something with the impact sensors. I would remove the impact sensors because they are unreliable (in my opinion with past experience) and make the puck in the air hockey game have a Tag Sensor, connected to the score giver, and the goals have tags, so that when the puck goes in the goal the tag sensor activates which activates the score giver.2011-03-20 02:39:00

You could do it the old way and emit score/prize balls over the players head.2011-03-28 01:53:00

If you get rid of the AND gates, what color is the score text? White?

If it's the color of player 1 by default, then something with your impact sensor is overriding your ANDing of the controllinator ID and sensor. I presume you've already double checked to make sure the controllinators, both transmitting and receiving, are different in their colors or IDs.

I am having this same problem in my level. I'm 100% positive it is not an error on my part, because it was working fine and now it isn't, and I haven't even made any changes. I have score givers connected to impact sensors that require a tag which is attached to a remote controlinator. There's an indistinguishable link between player and switch, yet it ALWAYS gives the score to the player who is farthest left. It used to work fine, now all of a sudden it doesn't, and it has basically ruined my level. Does anybody else know why this is happening?!2011-06-30 12:53:00

Does anybody else know why this is happening?!

You have to be careful with your player data signals. Typically, you'd put a two-input AND gate directly before your Score Giver, ensure the first input of the AND gate is fed from a signal which unambiguously belongs to the target player (Controlinator power signal works well), and the second input would be used to trigger the Score Giver.

Yeah, I'm going to try some AND gates tonight to see if I can fix it.2011-06-30 17:45:00

I tried using AND gates, there are multiple distinguished player links to this score giver, but no matter what it ALWAYS gives the score to the player on the left, it's an unfixable problem, which tells me that it is some kind of glitch. any more suggestions? It's frustrating me to the point where I just want to delete this stupid level because it's embarrassing having a broken level published.2011-06-30 23:42:00

Weird, it just started working, the AND gates are weird, both signals were being activated by the player, so I don't understand why it wouldn't work a few minutes ago. I think something's glitches out on my profile, my gates aren't working the way other people tell me they should. Theoretically I shouldn't even NEED the AND gate because it worked fine a few days ago. Do you think any invisible behind-the-scenes changes were made?2011-06-30 23:57:00

Do you think any invisible behind-the-scenes changes were made?

It's nigh-impossible to diagnose the fault without seeing the exact setup.

Well whatever the problem was, it seems to be working now. The AND gates do seem to be working out, thanks for that advice.2011-07-01 17:50:00
