LBP Machinima Competition - Win A Crown & More! (Now Closed)

Sackinima's Machinima Competition - Win A Crown & More!

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who entered! This contest is now closed and we shall begin to play through the hours of footage. Oh man this is gonna take a while, so bear with us.

Thanks again, you talented film makers!

Ladies and Gentlemen, please be seated. For we're going to make you an offer you can't refuse...

In the short time LBP2 has been out, some amazing short films have been published. But we want MOAR! So we've put together a film making competition, in which we give you the chance to win a Rare Prize Crown (http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en-gb/game_guide/ps3/downloadable_content/rare_prize_crown/) and have your film uploaded to machinima.com's (http://www.machinima.com) YouTube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/machinima) for tens of thousands (possibly even hundreds of thousands) of people to watch. We'll even upload some of the ones that catch our eye to our own channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/Sackinima) for another few thousand to view! Your film can be based on absolutely anything, we're not setting any limits to characters, genres, length etc. We only ask that you make it awesome. If you're interested in entering read the rules below and ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?

Prizes

First Place will receive a Rare Prize Crown courtesy of Media Molecule.

First, Second & Third Place will have their winning video recorded in high definition and uploaded to the official Machinima YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/machinima) channel for ten's of thousands of people so see. (Maybe even hundreds of thousands if it's that good!)

Throughout the competition we'll be recording and uploading some of our favourite entries to our own channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/Sackinima).

Rules/How To Submit

To submit your film, email the lbp.me (http://lbp.me/) link to sackinima@hotmail.co.uk with "Film Competition Entry" as the subject. Or, if you fancy editing the film using your posh recording stuff - upload your video up to YouTube and email us the link! This competition closes on 1st of May and we'll announce the winner shortly after. Of course you don't have to wait until then to submit, send it over now if you can! The winner will be notified by email, sent to the address they used to submit their entry.

Here are the boring bits: Only one entry per person! If you enter more than one we'll only accept the first submission. Only one Prize Crown can be awarded, so unless you're clear on who would get it, only one person can work on each entry. You are allowed to submit a film you've created prior to this competition, however we'd be more flattered if you made it specifically for us. ;D

Idiot's Guide

Make a film level thing
Upload the level and submit it to us through the use of LBP.me (http://lbp.me) andsackinima@hotmail.co.uk
After 1 month (or more depending on the number of entries) we'll choose the top 3, record and upload to the Official Machinima Channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/machinima)
Our favourite entry will also be awarded a rare prize crown, courtesy of Mm
Throughout the competition we'll be uploading some of our favourites to our YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/Sackinima)
We'll contact you via the email address you send your entry from, so keep your eyes peeled!
Done. Nice.

Any questions, feel free to ask them! Happy movie making!

1:44 is my favourite part. <3

What exactly did you mean when you said not to make anything like it though? You mean like we can't base it on other movies, or we can't steal that idea now because you've used it, or was that just an excuse to use that clip since you had it lying around or something?

Anyway, t'is a cool competition.

Pretty much an excuse to use something we've had lying around for months now. People can make what they want!

Thanks to those who are entering, I can't wait to see what people come up with.

Glad everyone is hosting movie level based crown contests, it'll get people to actually put some effort into their movie levels. I don't know if I'm picky or harsh on movie levels, but there's only been a couple of movie levels I actually liked (mainly the MM picked ones) and I've been down rating a lot of them (and I rarely boo, i mostly give neutral ratings/reviews), also i hate how people almost always put "(Funny Film)" in their level descriptions and then the movie be mainly about: farting, slapping, killing justin bieber (sp?)/sackpeople , and other randomness.2011-03-20 05:38:00

Question:
Me and sim are thinking of entering but our idea is so complex and you may need to selotape your socks to your ankles to stop em from being blown off :hero:

JK we haz an idea
Our question is can we make a YouTube short film and send it via YouTube? We need to use outside stuff to do our idea (pre-production)

Sounds like a good contest

I like this idea and contest. But I have several questions - I am from Russia, If I win - it is possible for me to get the crown?

If it is work for Russian LBP members, then I can announce this competition on Russian LBP community site - littlebigrussia.ru (we already have over 1200 members) and it will add several new cool entries for contest, I think. So, Leather-Monkey, please answer me here or with pm.

Best regards

Money won't be passing hands. It'll probably all go to machinima if anyone, otherwise everything gets tricky and arguments will ensue! It'll be half a year until any [possible] money appears anyway, but if it does appear we may make some sort of a deal. I doubt it though. No raising your hopes!

Of course you can do that! Just email us the video link. You can upload it public or unlisted, it's up to you.

Ooh, that's a good question. Media Molecule are the ones giving out the code. I'm sure they have codes that work worldwide. I'll ask and let you know as soon as possible! Until then I'd assume that the answer is yes, Russia can haz crown.

Thanks to everyone who is entering/promoting this contest!

Ugh, couldn't agree more! Every other cool level is "Crazy awesomee slaping sAck!! Do you hate Justin Bieber? (Funny Film)" And they really aren't all that great, I just skip over them, but for a competition.... could have some good ones

Question: Will having voiceover for your level increase chances of winning? Because I can't currently afford a mic.

@Bloo_boy
Yep, if Steve_Maguire (creator of Afraid) gets even close to this contest, if I join my chances are 0 in 1 million
But, yeah he's a great film maker, and a great voice actor.

Depending if I can make something from scratch really fast methinks I'll go for it. Is there any specific Date that we have to release these films by? A deadline perhaps?

EDIT: Oh right, got it April 19th. Kind of smudged between the lines, lol, thanks anyways.

It's good to be back on LBPC after taking a well deserved break from LBP2, and I think that this would be a great way to start my creative juices going again!

anyway my question is, does the piece have to be original? or can we modify an existing film or trailer?

You mean something you've already made in LBP prior to the competition? Yes you may, but it has to have been made by you. If you mean submitting reworks of a Killzone trailer for example, then yes to that too.

Humour isn't necessarily the best way to win. But moley and I have a wide range of different tastes. I personally prefer depressing arty farty films. But I'm sure it'll be awesome! Thanks for entering.

Also, I've recently finished my own personal LBP2 machinima and it should be viewable within a few days. Might get some juices flowing for some people.

I'm afraid not. Communication with the big guns has been pretty poor of late. But like I said before, I'm sure Russia is worthy of a crown! If not then we'll find a replacement prize somehow. I'm 97.3% of a potato sure of it. Maybe someone else around here knows for certain?

But, but ...you can already haz a month! I understand that everyone works at different paces and real life factors can be a pain in the back-mouth, but I think a month is pretty good. We'll see how things go...

Technically it is now (as I write this) under 22 days, 22 hours and 53 mins, so I guess I'll stick with that for now

Erm...

I'm currently between two ideas at this point (since i wrote that), one is rather dark, the other is kinda funny. The darker one is more original as it is my story based on a neo-noir style of filmmaking ing and will not have sackboy actors.

I might make both and then see which turns out best... but i want don't want to get caught up and not enter

[update on mine and sim's]

Our main idea "which was epic" we have decided to abandon for the competition as the sets are too complex and we don't have enough time

Our backup plan is a skit compilation of random and funny stuff so hopefully it will work

However, my Recording equipment has been tempromental lately so I have my fingers crossed!

Okay, maybe a month isn't long enough. A lot of people are asking for more time and I'd say it's time to take action! Although maybe it is slightly unfair to those who have already entered.

We're pushing back the deadline to May 1st. If you've already sent in your entry you can spruce it up and send it in again, if you so wish. Spread the word! Thanks everyone!

so as far as originality goes( AKA nothing sum1 on lbp has done b4) copyright issues still play role? or will u be graded lower for unoriginality because u didnt write it?
because i wanted to make an lbp version of an old tale... done by a particularly famous( DEAD RIP) author... as it was one of his/her most famous works...
its my fave short story done compared to anyone elses, and my heart would simply break if i wasnt able to take a crack at it...(JK but i would be disappointed =P)

It depends on how well you execute upon the story and whether you do it justice! But of course you can, we're not expecting everyone to be story writing boffins.

Collaborations are allowed however there's only one Crown to giveaway, so you'd have to clear it through with the group on who would get it if the entry wins. Any arguments that then ensue is not the fault of Sackinima or it's registered affiliates.

Well you still have almost 2 weeks so don't rush it too much! We might accept a couple more if they are only a day or two late as there is no point in being stict about it when we are trying to find quality movies!

It's ok, i'll get my sister to publish it when the PSN network is back online.

It's split into chapters so I need to sort all the level links out, planning to do it over skype.

So if the downtime goes past May 1st, im assuming the deadline is now going to be pushed back until everything's up and running again?

Yep, we'll extend it by however many days PSN is down. As if nothing happened.

Good luck trying to sort it all out and have fun at Uni!

(I say "fun" ...you know what I mean)

BAD NEWS:

Back at uni now and turns out the 5th chapter of my movie has bugged and no sound is running on it. My sister has no experience in create mode so won't have a clue even if i try and help her out. Would take days to fix over skype.

PROMISING NEWS:

Depending on how long the date is pushed back I might be able to return home for a weekend and get it back up and running. I'm now probably the only person on this site who is actually hoping the PSN is down for a longer period of time!

Btw: final run time is about 40 mins I think

I know I'm in a situation where I was supposed to make some music for someone's film, but with the PSN outage I have been unable to access the in-progress levels and thus it's hard for me to do as good a job as I should. Will you be extending the deadline something like 3-7 days past when the PSN goes back up? That way anyone who has been working with someone else on the film, and was set back because of the PSN outage, can get their film together!

We've decided we'll be pushing the date back fairly far, but still need to decide when that is. Obviously we need to wait for PSN to come back up. It should be more than enough time for people.

There's no harm in entering! The top three videos get awarded something, not just the first.

This psn downtime should surely aid those single player creators if they do not need online, but the team creators will not have their time creating together. I think it kind of balances out the fairness though because teams should be able to get more done in less time anyway. At least that is something good to come out of the downtime. Also, I am getting a bit of a tan.2011-04-30 15:16:00

hmmm, this whole downtime thang is realy causing me problems...

I'm going to be working away from home all next week and probably won't get a chance to upload my latest film, so I'd like to enter in its place The Day I Changed The World http://lbp.me/v/zk1n2f

If I'm lucky enough to be succesful I'd like the crown to be given to HardSync in recognition of the superb soundtrack he did for it.

In the meantime, good luck to all entrants!

Ok the level I'm entering is going to be episode 1 of a series I'm working on, even if I don't have the others done is it still acceptable?

You musn't have heard the music he did for it, worth a crown in it's own right hehe

As to the downtime, in a way it was a good thing, I was starting to spend waaaaay too much time on my latest movie, it will either be seen as a classic or a complete fail lol as it's a tad ambitious. It's in three levels, and is, imo, a bit of a tear jerker. In fact it would probably be unfair to enter that one as nothing else would stand a chance.

Unless it does turn out a complete fail hehe

Looking forward to the comp win or lose actually, would be nice to get my movie seen by the 'experts' (I know you'll refute that term, but couldn't think of another one)

Once again thanx for running it and good luck all

Hello thread...

Man, this is a bummer. I have just finished my movie, and with a perfect timing to apply with it, considering that the movie competition is still on (as otherwise it would probably be fated to 100 views or less -_-). But seeing as you will be away for the next week, it does put me in a predicament. :/

Some good news stampy, there's free wifi at the hotel i'm staying at, and i've brought my PS3 with me, so if PSN is back up this week I'll be able to do the voices for ya (of course I'm gonna do 'em bad so your entry doesn't beat mine muahahaha!)

If it's up at the weekend I can do them then, but if it's still not up til the week after it might be problematic cs i'm working away then too.

LOL, and I thought I was going overboard with my puny 27 minutes. Not even able to cross that 30 min mark. Bah, my movie fainted 300 meters from the finish line. But who knows, right now it is getting electro-shocked, maybe it will go that extra mile.

I'll be able to do the voices for ya (of course I'm gonna do 'em bad so your entry doesn't beat mine muahahaha!)

Well flue season is over so you can't bail out with that one. How about saying that your throat is all swollen from all the seminars held, and you can only talk in whispering voice. That could work.

Arghhghh, and I am probably out following weekend due to a business trip (still not confirmed, but it is scheduled -_-, although there is a trend of abrupt changes it’s a 50-50 chance). Man, when luck doesn’t want to be on your side, it just doesn’t want to cuddle you, give you a massage and pamper you with nice drinks. So now I am hoping that PSN is up by the weekend and that my trip is not confirmed. Hah, what a risk taker I am. I don’t know how much trouble this all is for you, taking into account that you are not home, and that there is probably 100-ish or more lines to be recorded. Aghhh, I hate this situation. If it wasn’t for the PSN attack, the movie would have been published already, but as it is now, 2 months of work is basically under a question mark due to the PSN attack, at least with regards to this competition. Should I maybe try to find someone else who would do the voices and contact you if I have found a fitting voice talent? If I am successful at finding another VO, that would minimize the risk, although you are already a part of this project, and I would never go that route if you still strongly want to remain so, even if it means that I won’t be able to submit the movie for this competition.

In fact it would probably be unfair to enter that one as nothing else would stand a chance.

But if you have a Wi-fi now isn’t there a chance that you will be able to finish it? From what I saw, this movie is definitely your best work, although the one you are submitting now is also a lvl 88 character. But I guess the last movie would be some kind of lvl 99 buffed Sephiroth (ah, the nerdy references, kill me now, as if I would to stand in someone else’s place at the end of the first DVD, ooops, CD.) And who are we to fight it? Maybe if all the movies of all the contestants are to face your movie in an epic battle, which would put to shame all that LOTR-ish nonsense, maybe only then we would stand a chance. BTW, yep, I am really looking forward to seeing it all done. How far are done with it? Percentage wise, I mean, it's all about statistics, otherwise, the world is an unintelligible place not worth living in.

Stampy, if you can find someone else I won't be offended in the slightest mate, you've made a piece of cinematic art that I would be proud to be a part of, but I can totally understand the frustrations of the situation (just make sure they do the 'It has EVERYTHING to do with me!' line some justice?) If you can get someone to do it and you;re happy with their contribution, just go for it, if we get PSN up & running in ime I'll devote whatever time I can to help. Maybe send me the lines etc as before and I'll do a couple of takes on the ones I'm not sureof? It's all dependant on PSN of course.

Ladylyn, that was sneaky quoting me and not including the line underneath lol

I really do think tho the new film 'Losing Things' is either going to be a massive success (in terms of critique not views) or a massive fail that will lose me the faithful following I have gained so far!

Stampy, 'Losing Things' is 99.9% finished, I just want the contributers to agree that it's ready and then I publish, a very small change here n there, but pretty much good to go. Am already starting to screenplay my next megablockiebusterer (copyright me) a Batman Film Me as Joker, Hardsync as Batman, Leklak as Catwoman (I haven't told 'em yet, but they're pretty good minions and will do as they're told)

Well, yes, so far all is dependant on when PSN is going back up. But in the meantime I will try to find a suitable voice over and I will definitely report back on how the audition went. But if I don't find an appropriate voice, I will certainly not publish the movie with a bad voice over, just for the sake of rushing it for this competition. Will just ignore the competition instead, and record everything with you when we can realize everything as it was intended. The movie depends so much on good voice acting that a bad actor would just make it meaningless and probably boring.

Come on, man, then submit that one for the competition. Make it hard for the other applicants. If you actualized everything that was planned, the movie must be really something special and probably worthy of one of the first three places.

Am already starting to screenplay my next megablockiebusterer (copyright me) a Batman Film Me as Joker, Hardsync as Batman, Leklak as Catwoman (I haven't told 'em yet, but they're pretty good minions and will do as they're told)

Yes, that is probably the way of success on collaboration projects. They just need to have a tyrant included as a vital ingredient. Otherwise, everything falls apart.

Along with my other questions I was wondering, what if psn isn't up by may 1st what date will we move it to?

I think it was answered couple of pages back that the deadline will be extended depending on the ?irrefutable and absolute will of the contest holders?. Or something along those lines, if you want the exact quoting go find the post.

It would be dangerous to extend the date now as we don't know exactly when PSN is coming back online, but we've got a date in mind that will hopefully be useful enough to the majority of entrants. We'll let everyone know the chosen date once PSN is back up.

Nice, I see 3 movies are already picked on the Sackinima's youtube chanel. So far the Machiniac is my favorite one. Great to see that such a hidden gem will get more views. BTW, why wasn't the movie recorded with subtitles? I don't know if you are aware of the limitations with the subtitles in the LBP2, where it is up to the player to turn the subtitles on in their options. When the movie has both voices and subtitles on the same magic mouth, the author has no control over it, he is basically depending on the player that they will be turned on in the in-game options in order to be shown along with voices, otherwise there are no subtitles, and the movie is not shown as the author intended. For example, in this movie there is one scene when the camera goes away, and the characters keeps on talking, but the sound intentionally fades out and you can't hear them all the way, although you would be able to read the text in the subtitles. I hope you will take this into consideration when recording more movies. 2011-05-02 21:10:00

Got home for the weekend and I'm pleased to say everything is fixed and up and running on my movie. With the extra time I even got to add in a few scenes and I'm so pleased with the end result. Although 48 minutes long is pretty ott and never what I originally planned :s

It was nice to watch the 3 vids already uploaded, I really liked the Mechiniac and the universe in the Space Monkey was awesome!

Can't wait for everyone to upload and see some more superb films

Oh no! What's the problem

YouTube said a while back that the Sackinima account could upload videos of ANY length, providing the file size was within limits. But they seem to have changed their minds now and we're back to the 15 minute limit. It just means we'll have to upload yours in sections rather than one 50 minute video. It's probably for the best anyway.

Btw, in my e-mail I didnt include the link to the direct level select, which is published as a separate level with links, but it can easily be found on my Earth, and can have its use if you get kicked out while loading second or thrid sublevel. Hey guys. I hate to say this as I imagine you have loads of entries to play through, but I was wondering if you'd remembered my email about changing my entry? I saw you played through the Printz diaries (and ty very much for the yays btw) but I had asked to change it to my Nina Simone vid.

Sorry for still not posting the results, we're not slacking, promise! It's been extremely difficult deciding the three winners. All the entries have had tons of work poured into them and we feel evil for only awarding three people. We'll announce the winners very soon (possibly tonight, but more likely tomorrow) but if it doesn't happen (I'm having connection issues) I apologise once more! We also need to hear back from Spaff re the Prize Crown.

I'd just like to say that we've tried to vary the type of winning film, we didn't want the top three to all be similar in content, even though they were all very good! We've judged the entries via how much of an impact they had on each of us whilst watching, be it via the story, use of cameras, music etc. Every single entry will appeal to someone out there, but we had to decide upon the ones that appealed to us the most. I hope this doesn't aggravate some of you!

Thanks to everyone who entered! Not long now, I promise!

I know that there are many great levels and Mm Picked levels entered the competition and the chance to be under the best levels is not big but I'm really happy that I could enter this competion with my level so it's up to me to thank all of you for your time and work to the LBP Community.

Big greetings, Dini ( and sorry for my english.)

Huh, the winners will be announced soon? That's cool. BTW, how come you guys gave up on the idea to upload movies from the competition on your own channel? It was really a great opportunity to watch more movies, other than the first 3 which will apparently be selected and youtubeitized. 2011-06-29 19:20:00

We just haven't yet! 2011-06-30 00:10:00
