Dynamic orientation of moveable objects

Archive: 8 posts

Is there a way to ensure that an object always adjusts its angle to the relative angle of the ground.

Here is image to explain what I mean. Black is the ground, red is the object moving along the ground.

PS: I don't want to use a roller coaster set up. The object needs to be able to leave ground level at any point.

You could use Gyroscopes with tag sensors for each change of angle. It's probably very tedious though.2011-03-19 16:02:00

Yep, and I really don't like tedious solutions. 2011-03-19 16:10:00

Check This Person's tutorial level (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=51919-Hover-Tech-Tutorial). It's a hover vehicle thinger. Might not be exactly what you're looking for at first glance, but if you do check his level, you can see the hover board (the 'complex' method) makes the vehicle gyrate just the way you're describing; In the example, you have the hover vehicle within a circle, and when you hop on it, you can circle around it from the in-side, and the vehicle follows the curve of the circle, it doesn't just stay horizontal.2011-03-19 16:34:00

A less tedious way could be to place tags along the length of your ground and have two followers, one on each end of your vehicle, then have them set to flee rather than follow? I haven't tested anything like this, but if you set their radius to the right size it should stay the right distance from the ground, supposing your tags are all aligned correctly. If the ground goes up, the follower would repel from the sensor and move the front end up etc. It would take seconds to make really, as you can just copy/paste the same tag over and over and not need to faff on with gyroscopes.2011-03-19 16:58:00

could you just put a rocket rotator on it? then it always faces in the direction it is moving.2011-03-19 20:02:00

I went for this set up instead.

It's not perfectly smooth, but that's good for my purposes. It has the advantage that you don't need hundreds of tags and only takes a few seconds to set up.
