Dr Who : Missing stars

Archive: 25 posts

Hello,

I have published a few days ago my first level on LBP 2 (Link lbp.me (http://lbp.me/v/yqkpbf)). It's a short and easy platformer/reflexion level, based on Dr Who universe (but I hope it's still fun to play even if you don't know Dr Who).

Some screenshots of the level :

http://i1.lbp.me/img/ft/aa1762c07cffed8c602ca3a9a8b85cba827ea772.jpg

Any feedback (level design, english, bugs) will be appreciated, even the bad ones, as I'm new to the creation part of LBP !

Hope you will enjoy it !

Hey Slurm!

I just played your level, and it's good fun! Excellent work. I can't think of anything in particular that needs improving, maybe a few enemies to defeat would be nice and some more ways of getting points would be good to add some satisfaction, that would make it a more enjoyable play but otherwise it's great stuff!

Oh by the way, I loved the cherry launcher both very amusing and worked very well, great idea and well implemented one of my favourite bits.

Well done.

Thank you for your feedback !

I will think about adding more ways of getting points, I already see where I can add them. About the enemies, I will consider it and do a few tries but I wanted peacefull animals on this planet.

I will take a look at your multiplayer level as soon as I can (as soon as I find someone to play it with me)

Thanks again for your feedback !

I love Dr Who! Am so checking this out

I'll be back with feedback in half an hour or so, in the meantime do you mind looking at my level? https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=53363-The-Story-Isn-t-Over

Feedback time!

I really liked it, though it's certainly not a perfect level.

- the into tune was a bit shabby but still quite charming. I'll probably end up using it myself.
- set the creatinator frequency to something longer, it must only be at about 0.1 and only one exists at a time. Doesn't make sense for them to replace each other so quickly.
- I really liked the part where you use cherries to tempt the light creature. The maze part... not so much but it was new and different so it's okay.
- The Dalek at the end was kinda random but a welcome addition none the less.
- I like bow ties.

(:

Sorry for being late in returning the feedback, but here are the pros and cons
- at the part with the light creature, make it so you can jump on the the creature with an invisible plasmified hologram in the thin layer.
+ getting up the mountain was a really good concept.
+fun easy level

thats about all i can think of.

Now this is hopefully my kind of level!!

Hope I see some Dalek! They will be exterminated. I'm not as soft as the doctor.

Feel free to check out mine!

Edit : Oh and thanks too JonnysToyRobot. I missed your feedback earlier, but I will take it into consideration.

It was a really cute level, fun and easy.

The light creature was cool.

I liked the maze part, though I think it needed some challenge to prevent the player spamming R1 the whole ride up. Maybe space worms in the walls that are attracted to the light, spaced at various places, or some such.

It seemed like there was something missing from the mountain top part. Shouldn't I have to crawl around inside the machine, pulling a bunch of switches and dodging lasers, or something... Nope, place the bomb and run? Got it.

As promised, F4F from my clone level.

Fun level. Here's some feedback:

- The tardis could be really cool with more crazy stuff happening. Consider more sounds (sci-fi ones will do great) and light moving in crazy ways. More things going on in there like the blue glowy thing you have going. Also an intro for why you're there (crash landing in Tardis would be in keeping with most Doctor Who plots!)
- It's Bow ties, not Boe ties.
- Tempting the creature with the light is a cool touch. Very nice.
- I don't normally like mazes (trial and error with no skill) but this one made sense. Maybe offer the player glimmers of other alien creatures along the way?
- maybe add more life to this alien world in general?
- The Dalek scene was a bit underwhelming for a boss. Maybe you should have to fight him in some manner?

Thanks everyone for feedbacks !

I've made some minor changes to the level considering your feedbacks, here is the list :
- Added a thin layer plasimified in order to prevent player to jump on the light creature
- Added points
- Bow ties instead of boe ties (thanks )
- Change creatinator settings

When i have some time, I will work on adding aliens to the world and maybe an intro sequence (now I know how I can do this), and try to change the final sequence with the dalek.

Again, thanks everyone for the feedbacks. I have learned a lot, and if I do a sequel I won't make some mistakes i've made for this one.

UPDATED POST

Got a chance to play your level the other day. I really, really enjoyed it. The theme and setting was nicely done, very believable. I like the lighting effects and the camera effects and the humor as well!

I found the cherry scene to be extremely well done as the "light" followed you around. Overall, I genuinely liked your level a lot. Great job!!

hey slurm, just checked out your level.
I love doctor who, and I like your doctor who creations and thought your level was fun and interesting, however i think there are some things you could clean up.
Here are some of my thoughts:
- I think you over-used the victory music in both places, near the beginning and during the explosion, the mood just wasn't right for me, and it was too early, I hadn't done anything yet and I was still enjoying your AWESOME dr. who music. and while the dalek is chasing you, you might consider more intense music there.
- I liked the use of the cherry and the light, i thought that was cool, i also thought keeping the lights on the platforms was a smart move.
- I found the dark maze a tad long, guess i took all the wrong turns, I'd either shorten it or better yet, expand the visible range by just a tad, I think that would add a little bit of comfort that would have helped me get through the maze.
- your purple grab balls near the end are very visibly attached to the backdrop, I'd pull them forward a layer to make it look a little more 'in space'
- finally I wanna point out that if you hold X while using the jetpack you can boost forward, and if you do , it's really easy to escape the dalek, and you move out of the range of your camera and it becomes a bit awkward and I dont think that was intentional.

anyways besides a few rough edges and bit of grammar mistakes, i thought it was pretty fun. ^^d

if you have some time please check out my level. F4F in the sig, thanks.

Tanks for your helpfull feedback !
I will probably change musics regarding your comment, and moving the purple grab balls into the middle layer. I'm currently thinking about changes in the maze part and final Dalek sequence, but my thermo is already very high, I hope I will be able to do what I'm thinking of.

I've queued all levels mentionned in this thread, I'll probably play them before the end of the week.

Wow, that was your first level? I must admit, it's much better than my first was. I never would have suspected, had I not read that in your description.

I've never seen Dr. Who, but it didn't really seem to matter. I thought the level had a great and clear theme right from the start. The humor is great. The design and art was good. The lighting was good. You have a good variety of gameplay mixed through the level, which is great.

My only complaint (which is small) was near the end when you're on jetpack and being shot at. Towards the end of that, the camera zooms in pretty close and you have no real chance of dodging bullets flying at you. I'd zoom the cam back a bit, there. Other than that small thing, great job!

hey i played the level a few minnutes ago (i dont know doctor who just to inform you), here's what i think:

Positive

+ On the planet: The design at the beginning was just great!
+ the idea with the cherrys and the different creatures, really liked it
+ the maze was a bit long but it nethertheless worked nicely, the creature was cute
+ good atmo overall
+ runs smoothly
+ the guy was funny

Negative

- the design lacked some ideas at the end, you seemed to rush it there
- the camera at the end zoomed in too much, i couldnt see the laser rays (drunkenfist_lee already said it)
- as already mentioned by fei0x, using the boost of the jetpack makes it to easy to escape
- the bomb doesn't look like a bomb if you ask me but that's just a minor point

Conclusion:

Your first level? Great! You combined so many good ideas and all of them worked.
I enjoyed the playthrough and Im excited about your future levels
Thumbs up.

Hey Slurm, i just played your level and here is what i think:
- Gameplay was really nice and smooth
- The level design was great with some really cool effects
- I never saw Dr. Who, but i still enjoyed the level
- I loved the part where you have to shoot cherries to light the way
- In the part where you have to destroy the laser shooting thing, i placed the bomb on the wrong spot, so when it blew up, it didnt destroyed the laser shooting thing, and when i tried to destroy it with the bomb that respawned, the bomb didnt exploded, the timer didnt start

This was a great level, considering that it was your first level (if you hadnt put that in the description, i would never have guessed), better than many levels out there!
Check out my Formula 1 level when you can. =)

You said this wasnt as polished! you lied!

I really enjoyed playing this level, great use of lights, you rock at using lighting effects and stuff , The decorations made the lvl looked really magical and artistic, and the platforming was probably one of the most unique ive seen, the green light, red light thing that was amazing.

The last part was so awesome, I wish It could have been longer with the robot chasing you.

The only thing, the only one thing I had a hard time, the cherry/light section, I recomend that like you make the Cherrys sticky, with the material tweaker chip, that way it will be easier for the little light alien thingy to help you out ^^

Other than that, great job man

Thanks a lot for your feedback.

I've made the cherries sticky in the section with the light creature, I hope it's easier now. And i'm still thinking my level has some flaws (some people doesn't finish it, don't know if they are stuck or if they don't like it), and some sequences are not as good as I wished they were.

Anyway, thanks again ! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
