Cybernetic Adventures Beta: Insectoid Garden
Archive: 23 posts
The second installment of the hit LBP2 level series, that amazingly had the first of the series scored over a thousand hits which is much higher than my other levels, is finally here. The level features the grappling hook gameplay as you hang on to the flies, solve the puzzles, and defeat the level's boss. This level has more than just the grappling hook feature, you'll also ride a dragonfly once you reach the half point of the level. Just like Alpha, the level includes breathtaking cinematic sequences and detailed visuals. Hope you enjoy the second of the "Cybernetic Adventures" series as much as Alpha. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=32209 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=32210 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=32212 http://lbp.me/v/y20rkg | 2011-03-18 21:15:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
First of all thats some crazy detail you got going, Will check it out soon. queued | 2011-03-18 22:48:00 Author: Bloo_boy Posts: 1019 |
And to think, I had the beta queued to play today, ha. Another solid addition to your new level series. Some nice visuals, varied gameplay and interesting continuation of your story. Fun level. Detailed breakdown of nitpicks and what I liked: - I feel it might be better if you replaced the gas ninja sound with something else if possible. + Cool how it looks like you are using a different shaped object for the hidden things in each level, but keeping them a consistent colour. The first section idk about. I guess you are trying to keep things simple, but it feels a little LBP1ish if ya know what I mean? - Would look better if the first bug's legs moved as well. -+ The grapple hook grass blobs look a little weird imo, perhaps you could intergrate them with the enviroment a little more? Or they may be just moss? - Would be better if the background trees didn't kill you. Put a wall there instead. - I feel you have too many arrows here. Maybe just keep the sackboy one, copy it below, but replace the sackboy with a circle shape. Or put the bottom three arrows on a sequencer to they light up in sequence? Would also be better if the circle key stayed in the lock/hole. + Nice bee design. + Nice transport design. + Nice Queen character, but could benefit with further corner editing imo. + Mysterious evil characters! (Have you been watching young Justice too?) -+ Some bugs a bit too easy, as they don't take much skill to take down. The one that moves to side to side while firing the the way to build em I feel. I did enjoy the different speeds of the bug/projectile which made the gameplay more interesting. + Nice top down visuals. - Would be better if next bee sackbot was floating/hovering/flapping. + Fun gameplay dropping down the wall. - Green square dissolve when ninja appears. - At boss checkpoint, the green sticker isn't covering all of the thin layer. + Nice boss design, perhaps give player extra points for each successive hit, which would give the player more risk vs reward gameplay. - "I'm melting" plays twice if you die to the right. + Butterfly counter! - On last camera zoomout, it only shows a little of the counter. Either show all or none at all imo. - Name all your prizes/objects. No major bugs or annoyances throughout. Nice job. The Gamma level sounds interesting! Will be looking forward to see what you do with that theme. | 2011-03-19 01:30:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
played, its a good level. i found no problems whith the game. Love how the ninja appears, but it leaves a green outline for a couple seconds. the dragon fly section i though was good, but for some reason when i reach to the area, the dragon fly stopped and froze (tho i do think its suppose to happen but im not sure) overall good game. please play me level, its at my sig. | 2011-03-19 02:32:00 Author: wait wtf Posts: 853 |

I thought the boss being defeated scene can only be played once, but maybe I forgot to add a counter to the connection or something like that. Also, as what you and wait wtf said, I'll change that dissolve scene with material changer since I used the dissolve material with gas hazard as a smoke. Does anyone know how to make a sackbot fly or hover instead of standing in floating air? | 2011-03-19 16:49:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
i really liked it a lot it was awesome nice visuals lots of details the enemy bugs was a little too easy to kill | 2011-03-20 00:51:00 Author: KRX Posts: 110 |
Thanks, KRX. Alright, I just fixed some things in this level yesterday. Instead of dissolving destruction of the emitter that releases gas in one of the cutscenes, it is set to fading, making the green color not showing (It's actually much faster to do than changing the emitting object). Also, I really did forgot to connect the counter to the scene where the boss is defeated, so that has been fixed as well. That is all what has been changed in the level's first update. | 2011-03-20 19:14:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |

Yo, I am going to check out this level in a bit. And btw, do you think you could also check out a level me and a couple of other creators have been working hard on? We would really appreciate it. http://lbp.me/v/y4n7x0 | 2011-03-20 19:26:00 Author: Scholarship Posts: 105 |
Wow, really awesome level! The scenery is very beautiful.I loved the parts where you grapple on the insects. It has progressive difficulty, for example, the insects begin flying towards your character and you have to grapple more quickly to complete the obstacle. I noticed that there are a couple of spots where the ground could be grappled when trying to grab onto the insects and would cause you to fall off into the pit, maybe add a material changer. Great level overall, cool story and a cast of interesting characters. Can't wait for Gamma, steam punk! http://lbp.me/img/ft/f78d9bda67fda86b340123943f5f9b736062c7f2.jpg | 2011-03-21 17:54:00 Author: Bender Posts: 75 |
Those Bee's (the sackbots you made) should be picked by MM and set to be a downloadable costume on PSN, im serious, thats one of the best costume design ive seen hands down. The detail throughout the level was great, good lighting, the platforming was good, everything was good the only thing that confused me a bit was almost at the end of the boss, there was a part where they showed alot of bees floating around, I didnt see anything around so I decided to maybe jump down on them, I missed them and ended basicly at the end scene with the ninja, not sure if this is supposed to be this way or I missed something im not sure, other than that maybe some more some leaves decorations etc, Great enemy design, the level was great, better than the first and your best level so far, great work man. Look foward to part 3 | 2011-03-21 19:53:00 Author: Bloo_boy Posts: 1019 |
Okay I've got some general nitpicks since Midnight_Heist has gone and stolen most of mine! Gah! - Ahhh! The Bugle voice sound! *shivers* - The camera zoomed too far out in some sections, making it hard to see where your character is and there's no need for it to be so far zoomed out anyway. - Tone down the fog on the spotlights, subtlety is always preferable. Always. People will enjoy something a lot more if they don't feel like they're being forced to notice it. - The dragonfly was a bit clunky to fly - Also the enemies there, well all apart from the last one, are way to easy to kill. Have it so it's hard to shoot them without being in their line of fire. Otherwise, it was a really solid level. Nice length, looks good, nice story and original. Which is ll you can ever ask for. | 2011-03-21 22:41:00 Author: JonnysToyRobot Posts: 324 |
Feedback Rated: Positives: +Grappling Hook puzzle was pretty unique how you catch the ball then bring it over to the side. +Design of the level looked really good, felt as if you were playing a story level. +Visuals looked great also, no problems with that. +Like the Bee's in the level +Platforming was pretty good +Boss fight +Intro into the level was great & Ninja sackbot disappearing like that lol. Negatives: -No negatives Thanks for playing my Uncharted level really appreciated it & Im looking forward to your new level. i'll beta test just send me a pm | 2011-03-24 07:46:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |
Thanks for the feedbacks, everyone. I just updated this level with some fixes. As suggested by Bender, I added more material tweaker tools to prevent accidental grabs to some platforms. As suggested by Bloo_boy, I added a few more decorations to this level. And as for what most of you suggest about the enemies, I made a couple of beetle viruses faster speed to make them a bit more challenging, but I leave the rest the way they are because I'm balancing the difficulty of this level. Hope this helps. | 2011-03-25 00:13:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
Hi! I enjoyed your level. There was a great variety of gameplay, which is always a good thing. Also, the gameplay was smooth and seldom frustrating (more on that later). I enjoyed tracking down the hidden score-thingies (yes, that's the technical term). Although, I was missing one and have no idea where it could have been. A ninja vanishing in a puff of smoke is always a plus. My only issue was with the boss, which kicked my *ss. I recognized his pattern of attack, but for some reason I still kept dying. That might have just been me, though. Wasn't feeling particularly coordinated at the time. I blame it on canada. | 2011-03-25 14:38:00 Author: DrunkenFist_Lee Posts: 172 |
whoops, I posted a critique in the wrong thread! I have this in my queue but haven't played it yet. LOL Edit: Yeah, this level is just superb, I don't know where to start. Some really great grapple stuff going on here. Only thing that struck me as a little odd was how perilous the boss was. I can't imagine acing this level! Thanks to everybody that worked on this. | 2011-03-27 20:17:00 Author: discokrakken Posts: 108 |
Played it yesterday: -Everything in the level looked great, i especially liked how in the beginning you created an awesome scenery using the waterfall in the 3d background. -It felt like a complete package with plot, sections with different gameplay features and nice NPCs. - The only shortcoming i've found is the final boss which looked good but was rather limited and boring to fight. I also didn't like how if you fall below the boss you just get plasma-killed with no explanation. Having a visible hazard would help a lot. Overall Nice level | 2011-04-07 08:40:00 Author: Vergil Posts: 155 |

I see that most of you have difficult times trying to beat the boss in a ace-able way. I'll change that in the level's next update. Maybe I should add a bouncing pad in the level's boss area. | 2011-04-09 02:59:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
Ive been swamped IRL and in LBP lately, and Im sorry your feedback hasnt come yet! You left some nice feedback on our NEBULA: Introduction level, And we would like to do the same! Itll be here soon! [POST RESERVED FOR FEEDBACK] | 2011-04-09 04:50:00 Author: grayspence Posts: 1990 |
Thanks for the feedback on my level =) I had already played your level but i just played it again to refresh my memory. First of all its a really great level good work. I like the variety of characters and insects. There are insect obstacles, insects enemies, insects you fly around on and kill other insects.........awesome. The bee character is a really cool costume looks like something Mm designed. I like how he pops up to give u advice every once in a while. I noticed he would be kind of floating there like he was flying, I thought it might be cool to have him move up and down a little bit like he was hovering instead of being so stationary. The top down part is nicely laid out but i think you should increase the awareness radius on the bugs that chase you when you get close. You have to get pretty close to activate them and is easy to pick them off from a distance. I enjoyed the level in the visuals department too its nicely decorated. Actually all your levels look great i just played the steampunk one 2! Really enjoyed the series looking forward to more <3 | 2011-06-20 07:54:00 Author: K3NDRAKRAY Posts: 61 |
