How can you position it in the corner? I'm assuming it's the same 'use a follower to follow the player' technique but how can you place it in a specific place near him, rather than directly on him on in a vague location regarding the radius of the follower

Use hologram with 0% brightness and have it extend from the player to where you want on the screen, using a gyroscope etc. to keep it upright and level. I don't know if that could potentially lag in some cases or cause the HUD to sometimes need to catch up with the screen. Mounting a camera on the hologram would solve that.
