I like turtles!

Archive: 8 posts

This is supposed to be a fairly straight-forward platformer with a few traps for the unwary.

I'll be totally honest- the level has nothing to do with turtles right now and I picked the title because I thought it might get the level more plays from people with a sense of humor. I do plan to stick a turtle in there as a boss at some point, however.

Mostly I'm concerned with the low percentage of players completing the level

Just played this from start to finish. Nice little platformer, it's good fun. Really good level design, it's satisfying to navigate get past each tricky bit and then get the points bubbles as a reward.

I would advise putting a couple of enemies in there to make it feel a little bit more alive or maybe just create an impression there are other living things around.
Also a simple story would be good so the player has more reason to get to the end, even if it's a simple and silly one. Curiosity will encourage the player to keep going.

I like turtles too!! Queued up. It's ok if there's no actual turtles for now. Haha.2011-03-19 20:57:00

Ah the things we do to get more plays XD

The level is fun as far as I was able to get. I got stuck on "give the box to the star". The boxes would keep falling and dissolving quickly and I didn't know what to do. I really tried everything I could think of.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've had some concerns that this part would need a more clever hint. I've kludged together a sackbot flashback (back when that skeleton was still alive) that will demonstrate the basic technique. If you can stand to play it again, let me know if that section still doesn't make sense.

I got all the way through your level without help on the first try. Although it may have been luck that I figured out how to move that box around. I just happened to let it sit on my head for a while and saw that I could move it that way. Of course I was also playing it after you added the flashback scene. I think you need more scenes or characters or enemies in the level. Like the suggestion above, this level could use more story or enemies. I left a similar comment in-game. I'd like to see sackboy fit into the story that the skeleton told somehow... perhaps by acquiring the emerald? (If he did, I missed it.) And I think something more needs to happen before the ending, otherwise it's just walking through a bunch of little puzzles and hitting the end. Some good puzzles though. I couldn't figure out how to get the bubbles trapped under the arch between two elephant faces shortle after the skeleton puzzle was solved, if I recall correctly.2011-03-23 03:21:00

Got it this time It seems obvious now, but then again it is an unusual puzzle.

There seem to be lots of score bubbles all over this level that I don't know how to get.

There's no emerald to miss at the moment. The emerald was added as an afterthought so it doesn't exist anywhere outside of the flashback, but in hindsight it seems like I should add it to the actual level since it plays a prominent part in a cut scene (which was also added as a kind of afterthought). I still have to think about how I'm going to incorporate turtles into the story.

Previously the level was just a bunch of puzzles without any back story (templatetown temple is the lbp1 version of this level) and it ends the way it does because I haven't worked out a boss or some other proper way to end the level.

The bubbles, once they're trapped under the arch, are unreachable. I should probably set it up to crush or completely obscure the bubbles instead. The reason is that once the "bridge" is dropped, it would otherwise be trivial to reach those bubbles.

All the bubbles are reachable, but they can become unreachable when you press buttons or cause things to explode. Also, some bubbles don't become reachable until you press buttons or cause things to explode. Then there are some bubbles that require extremely skillful jumping.
