Floating point bubbles?

Archive: 8 posts

Hey guys I tried searching and didn't find anything (might be really easy to do) but I was wondering if anyone knew how to make point bubbles 'float'. In my level I have a simple cloth wheel. I want to have point bubble all around it, like in the story levels, so when you do a full loop you get all the points.
I have tried sticking them to the my backround with no luck.

Does anybody know how to do this

I think you need to have a background to stick them onto. Put something in the thin layer at the back behind where you want your bubbles and simply stick the prize bubbles to it. Remember the sackperson does not even have to be in the same plane as the bubble to be able to collect it.... but it might make it easier to place your bubbles if you stick them to a thin layer directly behind where you want them.2008-11-27 21:19:00

I disagree with the background sticking method. That will leave balls free floating apart from the wheel, which is not what the person asked for.

The trick I suspect is to unbolt the wheel (or at least detach it from it's background thing), then glue the point bubbles to the wheel itself when it's not attached. Do this all while paused so the wheel won't fall down or keep spinning.

I'll have to put this feature into the level I am building, but it's a few days yet until I implement it. The theory should work... but well, let's see.

All you need to know that score/prize bubbles work in the same way that any other object does. It can be glued, attatched with a rod, string, piston, etc., and can be emitted.2008-11-28 02:00:00

you could stick them to dark matter.2008-11-28 05:43:00

Use a piston with zero minimum length and zero strength, and stiffness set to yes. It won't move but the zero minimum length will make the piston invisible I believe. Attach the other end of the piston to your cloth wheel.

Not sure how MM did it on the water wheel and such but that's how I'd do it.

Actually, if the wheel itself has a background that rotates, this should work fine. Just picture a wafer thin wood circle with the spokes and platforms glued to it. The circle, spokes, platform all rotate as one piece, with a motor bolt attached to a vertical column. You glue the bubbles to the thin circle, each one right above a platform. Since they're glued to the circle, which is rotating with the platforms, the bubbles should stay right above each platform.

Of course, you may want the platforms to stay level with the ground, in which case you obviously won't want to glue the platforms to the wafer thin wheel. You'd want to use a bolt on each platform to keep them from overturning the player.

If you don't want to use a background on your wheel, use the invisible piston idea and connect the bubbles to each platform with a stiff, invisible piston.

Hey guys just wanted to say thanks for all the ideas

I just went with sticking a thin layer behind the wheel to stick the bubbles on. Was quite obvious once I done it

But you have givin me even more ideas on how to do point bubbles in future levels Cheers!
