How to make 3d Objects

Archive: 11 posts

If you haven't given my 3d objects museum level a try yet go ahead and play it you'll be able to see what most objects will turn out to look like. 3d Objects Museum (http://tinyurl.com/6xtk8b2)

First off your going to need to create a object that you want to make 3d. I've provided a few pictures of what I used and example photos of what they looked like after.

Objects I used:

Next your going to need to create a Tethered Jetpack:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a182/Darkclaude/APhoto_3.jpg

Step 1: Once you have the object your going to create 3d and the jetpack hold down R2 and press X on your object(bone for me) then your jetpack. After you've done that let go of your R2 button. Then tilt slightly up on your Right Joystick. This will shrink your jetpack down really tiny.

Example(you more than likely can't see the jetpack):

Step 2: After you've done this you'll need to once again Hold down R2 and press X again but this time first on the jetpack then on your object. After you've done that let go of your R2 button again. Now you can hold up or down on your Right Joystick to spin the object in which ever direction you choose. There is a limitation to how far it will spin in either direction. You can do this process over and over if you choose, but make sure to always start with step 1.

There is a alternate version of this but it doesn't actually spin the object but just twist the object. If you want to see what it looks like just simply use Step 2 only.

Here are a few example photos of what the objects looked like at the end:

I hope you enjoy making objects 3d and getting creative with those levels.

I almost forgot to mention that objects that have been glue'd together will split apart and spread across the background and foreground layers. Rods, Strings, Bolts and such just get huge in size. Their are a multitude of glitches that happen when this is used so do be careful. So far I've only frozen my system once while using this but what I tried to make 3d was about a fourth of the size of the level.

Seems pretty cool. Does this only work on Mm objects or can it be done on materials too?2011-03-16 19:51:00

Materials get interesting and glitchy. It does work on materials and can actually be used to make your materials at amazing angles for ramps and such. You'll have to experiment with different shapes and sizes of materials. Have a go at it and give it a try. This even works with bounce pads, bombs, and some other crazy things.

This is kinda old (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=51843-Paint-Gun-Creatinator-amp-Controller-Decoration-Prizes%21%21) but its good that there is now proper tutorial for it.

I have myself twisted one level full of stuff but I will check this out if you have something that I have missed.

It's called the Twist Glitch. I've experimented with it a lot - it's really cool. Great tutorial, too - I didn't know that it could be done without shrinking the object and jetpack at the same time!2011-03-16 20:30:00

You may think this is the twist glitch but your incorrect. Part 2 is the twist glitch. Which simply twist objects inside the 3 layers... it only twist the image of the object. This actually spins the objects on it's 3 dimensions. Trust me I learned this through fooling around with the twist glitch. I found it by trying different things. My friend whom was in the game with me freaked out cause no matter how much he tried using the twist technique it never looked the same. Give this one and spin then do the exact same thing and only use the twist glitch and tell me how much different they look.

Edit: It's extremely similar yes but if you do this to two of the exact same object they will not be the same in the end. They will both be completely different.

Oh, I see. The twist glitch squishes and rotates an object along the Z-axis, but this glitch just rotates it without the squishing. Well, that's cool - I'd been looking for a way to eliminate the squish effect.2011-03-18 05:52:00

Odd that you happen to write here, being as I follow your sackbot guides so I can make my own RPG. The name comes from an old tv show called .hack, I just added king to it which has been my username since god knows when. Once I figure out some more i'll post em' and if I find any shortcuts for logic same thing.

I've been experimenting with this glitch and it's got a lot of practical uses.

Objects that are facing you can be made to face sideways, giving them more uses as part of level or boss design.
Lights that have beams can be rotated to send their light beams into the extra layers (I imagine this could be useful for FPS's and such).
Objects that face sideways can be rotated to face towards or away from the screen.

This being said, materials behave very differently. They don't get rotated at all. Instead, they seem to get skewed and shifted between layers, but in an unstable state, so that if you select or emit them, they'll pop back into the regular layers.

I've noticed that some of the materials also change visually when this glitch is used on them, namely the Brushed Steel and Chrome become lighter, and Shiny Metal gains a bluish hue. The reflection of some materials also seems to get affected.

The most important application I've found is that decorations and controlinators/microchips that are placed on the materials will be rotated, even though the material itself isn't. This allowed me to put decorations and controlinators on the front of some thin holographic material, and then rotate them by 180 degrees leaving them completely reversed on the back of the holographic material; something that's normally not possible to achieve.

Trying the glitch on Sackbots doesn't work, and all it does is mess up their blockmaps so that they'll float in the air and be grabbable from far away. Powerups and bouncepads also seem to stop working when rotated this way. Most of the "rubber" Mm objects (snake, fish, dragon, scorpion, etc) seem to end up zig-zagged when rotated, and will break if they are rotated too much.

That's all my findings for now. This is pretty cool.
