When to publish a level?

Archive: 6 posts

There is a thread in the tutorial section When-should-I-publish-my-level (http://https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=5473-When-should-I-publish-my-level&highlight=Publish) it is a good guide on finishing your level before you publish it.

This thread is more about timing the release of your creation to the world. Two part question...When will the level get the best chance to be visible and get the most plays the fastest? And once the level is bug-free and works the way that it is intended, is that enough?

Part two first. I see many levels with either 'ver. 1' or 'beta' that make it up to cool/trending pages, but with these labels it suggests that these levels aren't really finished products. I understand it if the idea or concept is far out and original that the creator would want to get it out before anyone else could steal their thunder. Looking back on my first level, when it was published, it was nowhere near where it is now because of the feedback that I received mostly from this forum. Their is always something more that you will think of, more decorations or points, another wrinkle to the gameplay, titles or cutscenes, the list goes on and on. So it is really a question of opinion, when do you think a level is ready to go live?

Now the most important question when do you publish a level for the best chance to get the most plays? Is it just as simple as the weekend? I understand that the audience is an important factor in this but what if you want your level to be for as broad an audience as possible?

My next level is going to be a versus level hoping to have it ready to launch by Friday. I want to know what you think.

Thanks!!

Hey,

Just letting you know that publishing your level at a certain time doesn't really help your level get much more views apposed to the quality of the level.

Levels get views based on how fun they are to play, detail, story and difficulty, not the time of releasment. However, if this is a concerne of yours, check the newest levels section and it will tell you how many players are viewing that thread, publish your level when at least 30 are viewing, this will help a very small amount get a few views the first day.

Hope this helped, best of luck with your levels.

If you get the time, please check my levels in the description, much appreciated!

I'd probably publish a level as soon as I think everything is done, but before you publish, do you think you have achieved everything you set out to do in the level? If not, you need to keep working! If so, you can always re-publish the original with any updates. 2011-03-16 21:59:00

Thanks for the advice. That is a good little tip about the people viewing but Creed it seems like your saying ANY level that is fun, detailed, and with a story will instantly get 100 plays and shoot up the charts. If hardly anyone plays a level no matter how well those few rate it, the level won't get played before it gets buried.

There is a lot of information out there on getting into the cool pages but much of it is LBP1 specific, there are many more places where your level could be noticed and i just want to try and give my level a little better chance to be seen.

Aquila, I think your bit of advice takes care of the "Is that enough?" portion of the question and i think i might be shooting for next Friday now! Just thought of a song that i want to recreate for it.

Ok, just to let you know, I'll probably play your level since I have nothing in my queue.

Friday is tomorrow, right?

Just so I know it's published, could you post a link in my visitor messages so I can go to the LBP.me page and queue it up? Or just tell me your PSN name and I'll browse around for the newest level on saturday so it's definately published.

Thanks I hope to get it out sooner rather than later but I don't want to rush it. The logic is almost entirely worked out, just have to dress it up a bit both visually and audio-ly. Just was thinking Friday is the best day to release a level, for the weekend traffic and all.2011-03-18 00:27:00
