Crash Aaaah!

Archive: 11 posts

I know you guys can't really help me but for the first time ever the game crashed. I know that when you create levels you need to keep backups just in case this happens but I do not create levels yet, this crash happened after I downloaded some levels so I do not have a backup ready
I guess I just can't delete the last saved level from the profile folder and get things up and running again. I will have to work my way through the story levels until I can start downloading again.

I just wanted to vent really

1. Start up the game and see what happens.
If the game loads then you are fine. If not then, go straight to step 4.
2. If a downloaded level does not load then remember it, delete it
3.repeat steps 1 and 2 until no more crashes occur.
4. Backup savedata onto pc and then delete savedata files from psp memory card.
5. Start game up. If it does not work then get proffesional help or refund and new copy of lbp.

No it won't get past the menu screen.
Is it all based on the feconfig file or can I keep my story.dlv, story.slv and story.sco files, keeping my progress in the game? (I have completed it but not to 100%)

I am not entirely sure however, back it all up.
If you have a backup on a pc or whatever then good.
You should remove all LBP files from your psp (excluding downloalded content) then start the game.
It should start but, if it does not then it is not an error that can be fixed without breaking user agreements and thus becoming unable to connect to lbp servers.
So if that is the case then take the problem to your local store.

It is a PSN download so I will just have to download again if removing my profile does not work.2011-03-16 18:48:00

Weel I got it all working again but I lost my downloaded community levels. i found a zip file distributed on the internet that has all of the "my Moon" craters populated with blank levels. I copied over the blank levels and the feconfig file and then replaced the blank levels with a few I had (I never have created a level but I have save some logic packs and stuff). So the result is that I have my story level and turbo pack progress still (which is complete as my skill level will allow) and I have the levels I had stored on "My Moon". I have been through and deleted all the blank placeholder levels (I thought it looked too messy).
From this I can deduce that the feconfig file stores which craters are populated on "My Moon" and also what cities are populated on the downloaded levels map. It does not say what level is where, just that one is there. My feconfig file was corrupted just after I downloaded a community level (I guess it did not finish writing for some reason, I don't believe I turned off the PSP too early but maybe I did). When I replaced it with the uncorrupted one from the internet it still would not allow me to start the game because I did not have a fully populated "My Moon" and the file was expecting one, it only worked after I copied over all the blank levels.
I believe from this that because the feconfig file from the downlaod did not have any community levels with it my downloads where not found because it didn't expect to see any there. I may be wrong but this will need a little bit of investigation.

(I did have the option of installing a 100% completed game save with all DLC costumes but it didn't feel right, maybe if I could find out where the costume files are I will but I do not want 100% unless I get it myself.)

Why would that make a difference? I didn't try to make any levels with it and I have played with it installed for many months, unless a level I downloaded had the materials I suppose.2011-04-14 23:53:00

Hmm well I've looked into this before and have spent time switching back and forth between my file backups and here's what I've gathered:
- For what you said about the file not having any downloaded levels and yours having some, I doubt this is the issue since on each backup save of mine, (I have around 10, 2 of which I keep up-to-date) I have a different assortment of downloaded levels.
- There is a method of transferring your levels from one save file (backup) to another and it's called the "Magic Crater." Basically it consists of trying to discover which save file(s) (I believe there are 4) pertain to the level you want and copying only those files over to the other save.
- NOTE: Using the "Magic Crater" method, transferring a level by copying its files to another save deletes the level in that crater on the other save.
- While naming each save file is a good idea for staying organized, always remember that THE FILE NAME MATTERS. The file name has to have the same name as it did originally when it is saved onto the PSP system in the "SAVEDATA" folder. The folder name should be "UCUS98744PROFILE".

Hopefully all this can help you figure out what you need to know.

Yeh, I understood about the Magic Crater method which is why I copied the couple of craters where I had placed things (couldn't really call them levels) back over the ones in the totally populated file, then I went through and delted all the empty levels (I didn't like the clutter), but the feconfig file I was given with that save file was looking for total population, so I had to start with it or else it LBP would not start.
But with that feconfig file it would not show any of my downloaded levels, it would crash either, so I guess it is another file that says what cities are populated with levels on the Earth planet. Anyway I had to start downloading again trying to remeber what was there.

I kind of understand what you mean..cities = downloaded level spaces? Anyways, I don't really know all of the details about downloaded levels in the whole save file dealio because I've always just played the levels and left them there or deleted them after. Hopefully you can remember your levels, if I recall there was this one called "PSP Mario 2010" that's pretty good so you should give that one a try for sure if you haven't yet.
