How to make natural looking landscape
Archive: 8 posts
I'm trying to make a cave style landscape (the tomb of a kind) for my level, and over the months ive become a little over-reliant on the grid tool. Doesnt anyone know an easy way of making a cave system look natural without perfect rightangles and such? ive tried using the hexagon rotation cutting method but it always overcomplicated the object within minutes | 2011-03-16 00:01:00 Author: Pete1991 Posts: 225 |
Two words, which also happen to describe the greatest tool in all of LittleBigPlanet. Corner. Editor. | 2011-03-16 00:07:00 Author: booXely Posts: 654 |
My recommendation would be to use the corner editing tool without the grid on it can help with the cutting method you mentioned to perfect and uncomplicate the shape a bit. Here's also a link to a cave tutorial http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cave+tutorial+little+big+planet&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari (it should work but I can't link you directly as I am on my iPhone | 2011-03-16 00:12:00 Author: Megafig Posts: 52 |
Check out this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhj4GhLrhKY) and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dm4KggdZd8M). These are the best terrain creation tutorials I've seen. | 2011-03-16 05:40:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
I have to third the corner edit with no grid. Make sure you fake perspective. | 2011-03-16 07:09:00 Author: celsus Posts: 822 |
Those videos posted above are good. What I have done for a cave like feel is set up three blocks of different material in three layers, not stuck to each other. I then work on each layer seperately, working on the front most one, cutting into it. Then the next layer and the back layer making sure the bits I cut out of the back layer is smaller then the first two layers. This gives a better perspective and lets light in and the possiblity of sticking any randon thin shapes to the back of it. Also, you may want to seperate out sections as the shapes get more complicated. I've found that after a while if there are to many shapes cut out of a block, it gets too complcated for the LBP engine to handle and a message pops up to tell you. But the corner editor as everyone has said is your best friend without the grid turned on. | 2011-03-16 12:06:00 Author: LittleBigDes Posts: 920 |

What they ^ all said, but also...have you tried using sponge instead of stone, and then stickering it to make it look like stone? Sponge can smooth out those jagged vertices to give your landscapes a more natural look. | 2011-03-16 14:54:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
