Score Transfer

Archive: 5 posts

Allowing the levels to receive scores from other levels, and allowing players to transfer scores to these levels can add a hold new depth to the game. RPGs can get true experience points, you could lock a level by score so that you would have to reach a certain score to access it, and essentially it means you can transfer data from a level to another level(A story game like Heavy Rain would need this).2011-03-15 21:22:00

One word: Sublevels they already support that and can be accessed only by creator and linking to them from other level. People was playing to use score as a few bit data transfer in the beta already

Also if you watched NY event closely they got native data transfer between levels solution in consideration and they said "it might look like tag and tag sensors or something like that". But you know is on idea stage

I've been doing some limited experiments along these lines for branching stories, by treating each two-way choice as a 0 or 1 binary number. You can then convert many yes/no did/didn't decisions into a (say) more manageable 3 digit decimal number to give to the player at the end of a level, they then enter the number at the beginning of the next, it's decoded back to a string of 0/1 decisions, and the level is altered accordingly.

It works, although I'm not entirely convinced it wouldn't be simpler to just go round every player's house and dose them with rohypnol, so they forget what they did in the previous level, then carry on regardless.
