Patch disabled tilted decorations on invisible tags

Archive: 4 posts

I use kind of an inside trick I learned from centurion to tilt my decorations to different angles by putting them on tags. It wouldn't work in LBP1 on mag keys because they would disappear in play mode when they were set to invisible. It worked fine in LBP2 so far, even if the tags weren't visible. I used it to make the shield and bat wings for my Alucard bot.

Thegide was asking me why the trick I'd told him just days ago wasn't working, and I feared that the Shield and Bat Wings no longer existed... luckily they still display, and I assume they're operating off the same principle as pre-patched cow-glitch materials in LBP1. I tried to make a new example, though, and a tilted decoration on an invisible tag, mounted on invisible holo will display in preview mode while in create mode, but now it will not appear in play mode.

An unsettling change, in my opinion, and I'm glad a few things I made before now still display, but this wasn't really a tacky trick, or a glitch, it really was a useful technique for powerful visual design, and was the only way I could get decorations tilted to the proper angles. Even object twisting and tilting on the edge of a thick block never gave the same effect.

Yes, this is frustrating indeed. For those that still need a workaround, you CAN still get more or less the same varied angles by sticking them on the very edges of different types of material.

Try experimenting with materials that have different types of bevel on them.

For example, Embossed Cardboard (http://wiki.lbpcentral.com/File:Embossed_Cardboard.jpg) can yield different angles than Basic Cardboard (http://wiki.lbpcentral.com/File:Basic_Cardboard.jpg) because of its wider bevel edge.

After your deco is placed, turn the base material into invisible holo and stick it to your object the same as any tag.

I had used that tag thing in one of my incomplete level from LBP1 and I had to find other way to achieve it.

Testing multiple beveled items and gadgets I found that you can use Creature Navigator witch is now invisible by default in place of the tag.

Is it only tags or have all tools lost their decoratability? I've never used tags, but I've occasionally decorated other things, such as emitters and, in lbp1, water sensor switches (they were deeper than most tools and rounded so they're ideal for this kind of thing in some situations).2011-03-15 15:43:00
