Visible Microchips in Play mode?

I was sure I had seen other levels that present a microchip circuit board for the player's perusal, but I cannot seem to make it work. In play mode it shows the "chip" but not the "board" and it shows all the wires that are connected to other physical, visible objects. | It will make the microchip visible, but not the components on it's circuit board. The system "closes" microchips by default, so you can't see the components.
